Mainly because I can see my transmuted legendary is sellable on a merchant, and it’s the same price as the exotic. This means the detection of value is an exotic, not legendary.

You weapon has the value of an exotic because its stats came from an exotic. I assume you transmuted it with an exotic weapon for the desired stat set you wanted. When you transmute, the stats you chose determine everything about it aside from the skin such as value and soulbound/account bound.

Dataminers have uncovered possible untransmutation devices so I would imagine those will be available in the gem store soon. So you should be able to reverse it based on that alone.
