Transmuting is an exploit or not?

I posted this on reddit too, so I’ll post it here too more specifically to get an answer from the staff is possible.

Reddit post:
“Hi, I was curious about this so I tested it out; http://imgur.com/a/8pjmo

So I transmuted a soulbound level 7x rare helm to a white one. It retained it’s color but it doesn’t say transmuted/rare/normal etc or anything when I hover my mouse on the item. But the item retained it’s color while previously it would turn in to the color of the item’s stats that you chose. For example I chose the stats of the white item, it would’ve turned white before the patch.

I tried salvaging it, but for some reason it can’t be salvaged? Yeah, no idea why

So…does this mean we can transmute legendaries while retaining their “legendary” stat AND making them acc bound at the same time? While transmuting it clearly says that if you transmute the item will be soulbound, so I guess that this might not be working as intended.

P.S Don’t mind the little pink asura with random gear and stats |:"

My question is if this is a “bug” or “exploit” or whatever. Transmuting should make it soulbound according to the transmution window BUT it does not.

Honestly this would be freakin’ TERRIFIC if it’s working as intended. For the cost of having to buy a new weapon with the highest available stats and using transmution stones this means I can put my Sunrise on another char and not lose it’s legendary tier. So I don’t have to worry about grinding a new weapon whenever a new tier is released.

So, Anet. How about it, exploit? Are we going to see people perma-banned for this anytime soon? Let us know pretty please with a cherry on top.

Your transmuted helm has the stats of a white item. It’s only of the rare tier in color. If you transmuted a legendary to a white item, it would also have the stats of a white item and only be purple in color.

To actually make an account bound legendary, you would need to transmute a legendary with another legendary (or exotic/ascended). It really depends on how they’ll handle already transmuted legendaries and the ascended update.

Originally, a transmuted item said it was soulbound, but it was actually account bound. They then changed it to show account bound. If it wasn’t intended, they would have probably made it soulbound, rather than showing that it’s actually account bound.

I’m not sure I understand your post, if you transmute a legendary you will lose either its stats or its appearance won’t you? Can you keep both stats and appearance from one item when transmuting? I never tried.

You both missed the point. I know it has the stats from the white item. But before when you transmuted let’s say a legendary to an exotic and used the legendary skin and exotic stats. The item would become exotic rarity in stats and color. But now it retains it’s Legendary rarity which would mean it would be eligible for the auto-upgrade mechanic that legendaries supposedly have.

From the patch notes: Transmuting weapons now preserves the higher rarity of the two items.
I’m guessing, it’s their way to let players transmute legendaries to get the desired stats without those players feeling screwed over by the future stat upgrades.

Yush, I am aware of that one. However one can now turn a legendary that’s soulbound in to an account bound one by transmuting it to a white first then bank it to the char you want and transmuting it to an exotic all the while retaining it’s legendary rarity.
I just want to make sure that that’s intended and not some unknown exploit before I go and get myself banned for doing it to my sunrise :c

What’s the auto-upgrade mechanic? What can it upgrade to, nothing has higher stats than legendaries at the moment.

When ascended weapons are released, legendaries will be automatically upgraded to have ascended level stats. They have not announced what will happen to legendaries that have been transmuted however.

Do we know when they’re releasing Ascended weapons? I sure wouldn’t risk nerfing my legendary until ascended weaps were already out and I knew for sure this would work. Craziness!!

Well, to unsoulbind an exotic and give it to another char u need 2 fine transmutation stones [unless u wanna run around with white stats :P ]. Fine transmutation stones are bought from gem store = profit for ANet [or whoever does their money policy now]. I bet they won’t ban u for that

Do we know when they’re releasing Ascended weapons?

No. All that’s been said is that a full set of ascended gear would be available roughly a year after the first pieces came out. Weapons will probably either come out next, so in 3 months, or last, after all the armor pieces.

I don’t think Legendaries should be upgraded automatically if and when ascended weapons come out.

Why? Because if the rings and backpacks are anything to go by there will be a grind (of some kind to get them). When you “grind” for a legendary, as it has the same stats as exotics, you are not grinding to have a statistical advantage, you are grinding for a skin only.

Therefore, anyone with a legendary should be offered a free transmute when they get their ascended weapon. Otherwise they are getting a statistical advantage for doing nothing that previously warranted one.

Indeed, ANet representatives have specifically pointed to this aspect of transmutation in threads regarding lost starter gear (thief hoods, guardian armor, engineer backpacks, etc).

If ANet specifically tells you it’s okay, rest assured it’s not an exploit.

Funny, I quite vividly remember them banning people who bought their precious black lion salvage kits and used it on snowflakes.

Wasn’t there mention by a dev recently that they’ve changed the transmutations to always retain the highest rarity colour? I’m sure i read this somewhere but not sure where now.

That’s in the patch notes.
