With Silverwastes farming in mind (but only one example), when you salvage many green weapons and armour you end up with an inventory full of runes. All green runes that you have to either leave what you’re doing to sell, or else stay where you are and destroy to make space. This process is painfully slow.
I VERY much appreciate the ability to carry on salvaging after salvaging rares – a feature you recently added. I think it should be possible to either salvage runes or do something else with them to make inventory clearing more of a smooth process. I also think this follows the same line of thinking as the rare salvaging feature I just mentioned.

Cheers!!!

Use basic salvage kits instead of higher quality, cuts down on how many green runes clutter your bags.

The closest thing is running them through the mystic forge. Aside from that, you can always just sell them for coppers. Doing this a ways out from town is not always convenient, but it is possible through the merchant express and a mystic forge conduit.

If youre like what i used to be and use mystic salvage kits for greens to try to get more ori/ancient wood (seems like a good idea, 25% chance of improved items, right?!?!), dont bother. You only get the improved mats <10% of the time and you literally waste hours every month getting rid of the green runes. Go with basic salvage kits and your wrists will thank you.

I mean a better use for them would be nice (or just remove runes from green gear in the loot tables), but i doubt its a high priority issue right now

I save them all. I have 4 bank tabs full of runes and sigils. Once they hit 250 I plan on just vendoring them. I feel it’s faster this way. And I’m a hoarder.

If I’m in town, I just sell everything besides cloth armor, and use basic kit with it. You probably end up making more money selling them.

If I’m in the mid of something, I just salvage things and toss away the runes or sigil.

I’m not sure if it is worth it to salvage them. You can probably just sell them to vendor which might be the better ways.

Obviously cloth armor you should salvage since it give silk. And you are better of using the basic salvage kit with it. Since you want silk not gosammer.

They are easy to sell and there are vendors at each fort in the silverwastes. Seems easy enough to get rid of them quickly.

They have a use: dump them in the mystic forge for promotion.

It takes ~16 to produce a yellow and 16 of those to produce an exotic. Many of those are mediocre, but some are quite valuable as the forge and pre-nailed to certain exotic drops are the ONLY way they enter the game.

Guys, the purpose of my post is to ask for a way to efficiently GET RID of them. They take up space and I want them gone asap – THIS is the issue.
Not some time-consuming use for worthless runes that I don’t want.

Sorry if I didn’t clarify (I probably didn’t).

That’s why we are proposing instead trying to get rid of them. Just dont’ get them at all.

You make even less money salvaging them anyway.

Ok. I am aware of how to get rid of runes. I know the fastest CURRENT ways to get rid of them. That’s not what I’m asking for. Just as the old way of salvaging rares was slow (and got improved), I think something should be done about green runes that build up like crazy (silverwastes farmers will know what I mean).

Keep in mind the fact that you’re in the middle of fighting VW when your runes have built up so much that you cant do anything with them. You can’t go merch them because … well… you’re in the middle of VW…. This is the kind of thing I’m talking about. It’s very common, as silverwastes farmers will know.

Since runes of any flavor are available from simply drops at any given time, I think they should remove most, if not all, of them from the loot table. Set up a vendor like GW1 that has controlled prices based on supply/demand and make the vendor and crafting the only way to obtain runes/sigils/upgrades. They should not be tp-able either to avoid tp trolls buying up all the vendor’s stock and selling them for higher profit. I’ve been looking for a reason to make upgrade crafting have a purpose for a long time. I think this might be it.

ya Anet actually increased the rune drop rate from salvaging a few patch ago. I find that more annoying than helping. I find I spend so much time just cleaning my bag this days.

Also I have a permanent merchant license. Good thing I bought one when cheap. You can also get the glob gambler which is like a permanent merchant, but you might get broke gambling for them.

Good luck complaining. Hopefully Anet will listen to your complaint.

I’ve always wondered why it was so expensive to craft even trash runes, so I agree. Remove them from drops. Frees clutter, makes salvaging less painful, and gives a reason to craft them. Might wanna change it so you have a small chance of salvaging them back to the materials used to craft them though or rare mat prices will blow up out of control…as if they weren’t already.

Not to be argumentative, just observing, but what are you doing that you end up with a full inventory while in the middle of VW? In my experience with SW stuff it’s quite difficult to actually fill one’s inventory before VW is complete. That is unless you’re actually opening and salvaging every loot bag as you get them, which seems a bit silly given that you get a good 15 min after VW to deal with inventory and vendor at Camp Resolve.

On topic however, I’m not sure what more can be done about runes while you’re in the field. You could make the salvageable I suppose, I’m not sure what effect that would have on the economy of shards/rune mats (assuming they would salvage into dust/the materials used to craft runes).

On the flip side I would personally love to see rune upgrading recipes int he mystic forge, similar to those for materials, take like a half a dozen or so minor runes of one type + some random mystic forge mats and upgrade to a major of the same type, and likewise for major to superior.

First rule of SW farming. Don’t open the bags untill you are done farming, and then do it at the merchant. That way, you never get flooded with runes and other trash.

Green and Yellow runes should be useable in a refinement process via either Crafting or the Mystic Forge to be upgradeable…

Say put 4x a green rune of the same type into the forge = 1x Yellow
Put 4x yellow rune into the forge of the same type = Exotic
Put 4x Exotic rune of the same type into forge = Ascended Rune

Ascended Rune = Accountbound Rune which when unlocked for your Account works like an Exotic Rune which you can always put on every Lvl 80 Equipment and remove from Lvl 80 equipment as often as you wan,t practically making FINALLY runes/sigils work in PvE/WvW exactly like in PVP!!

You do realize runes or gear are supposed to eventually be destroyed as an economic sink to prevent literally every rune or sigil from becoming completely worthless right?

They’re not supposed to work in PvE like they do in PvP.

That’s why the price point of extractors is where it is, why the only cost effective way to regain a rune is to destroy the gear it’s in, and why even the least popular runes still bring in a decent amount of silver.

Swapping runes is supposed to be a money sink.

ANet can give the game much better money sinks then this, at this poijt of the game its much better to make out of all this trash in the game item sinks and thats exactly what the mystic forge solution would be..

If ANet still wants to have both, item and money sink, then they could take the crafting solution as an alternative

Something like 95% chance dust, 5% chance shard. If that was possible I’d salvage most of them personally.
The only real other option is to have them go straight into the ‘craft’ section on the bank when you deposit all mats.

This is both brilliant and disturbing at the same time!

I get a ton of green runes using basic salvage kits. I am too lazy to buy a copper fed salvagematic so I always buy these stupid kits. They are easy to sell at a vendor though you can knock them all out really quick.

It would be cool if you could salvage the rune and get a base raw material back.

Or devs make rune salvageable, or they could do this: remove runes from drops, or maybe from only green drops. You want a green rune? You can craft it cheaply usually.

In response to the mentions of upgrading them in the mystic toilet….you have been able to do that since forever, there’s just no guarantee you’ll get an upgrade. I’d say about 75% of the time there is no upgraded rune. The only ones you cannot toss in there are superiors which always annoyed me. obviously there’s no upgraded version of those but if I wanna toss in some worthless superior runes for a chance at a better one, why is that a bad thing?
