Well I just took a look at this collection/achievement and this one thing embodies the two major problems with GW2:

1. Brutally frustrating RNG
2. Trash rewards

At first I was excited to get started on a new item for my home instance. The first items on the list are relatively easy to acquire and had me traipsing around the world revisiting old content. Very fun stuff.

But then I researched some of the other items and man they are very unforgiving RNG drops and they’re VERY expensive items on the TP.

Further research revealed that the home instance chest you get as a reward provides you the typical two blues and a green. Wow! Why bother with this Anet? It’s not worth even bothering with this on so many levels.

This this led me to think about the new collections for obtaining precursors in HoT. I am very nervous that the precursor collections will NOT be skill-based epic quests but be modeled on the Treasure Hunter collection. If that’s the case, then the rare drops in the collection may amount to more RNG frustration than they’re worth and/or the sum cost of the collection items outstripping the cost of the precursor on the TP.

If that’s the case Anet, why bother? Everyone will take the path of least resistance which will continue to be forge and gold farming.

Of course this is ALL speculation. But Anet has a clear history of this type of thing.

I think its supposed to be more like the luminescent armor collection and the maudrey crafting. luminescent has some RNG (all account bound stuff), but it isnt terrible for the most part. Maudrey is crafting to the max, but there was little (if any) RNG. So hopefully they stick with these instead of the “get all these named exotics” collections.

I was wondering about this too. Treasure hunter is more expensive than buying a pre cursor…so they dont want to make it that hard.

Yeah, the entire point of the new precursor collection system is to provide an alternative to farming gold for a precursor, so making it like Treasure Hunter would be pointless. With it being more like luminescent armor and mawdrey collections, most of the items you collect would likely be account bound.

So much jumping to conclusions… how about you wait and see how they implement it before you qq.

Because like the OP said, ArenaNet has a track record of doing this kind of thing. A precedent has been set that would lead them to this conclusion. The OP is fully being respectful and isn’t just wildly guessing at things. They are making educated guesses at what could come due to ArenaNet’s past with this stuff. It’s a valid question and one I would hope ArenaNet would look at closely before deciding how they choose to handle it when it goes live.

Welcome to B2P/F2P games, everything is gated behind horrible RNG and gold grinds to encourage you to buy ingame currency from their cash shop.
