Here is a radical idea. Anet doesn’t want to pony up for more armor sets? So many are tired of outfits because it creates clones and stifles creativity? I saw a suggestion somewhere on this forum about the possibility of Anet creating just individual pieces. How about a shirt? Just a plain shirt- no shoulderpads, highrise or otherwise, no frou-frou or doo-dads, just a plain shirt. I am amazed how many games overlook the basics, even with their players calling for them.

There are some individual (tho pretty ugly) single pieces of armor in the gem store already. Why not add a few basic street clothes?

One big gripe I have, that they added a butt-cape to to the Hall of Monuments medium armor. Why on earth ruin it like that? I much preferred the original and would love to have access to that version.

I agree that more variety is better. My problem is this: I want more actual armor that is not outfits and that doesn’t have skirts, huge shoulders, or mis-matched left vs right. If Anet starts creating more individual pieces that are not armor, that takes away from development time for armor. So while I think that things like individual shirts would be great, I would prefer armor first.

The fashion in Tyria seems to be large clothing. It’s meant to look epic. Like, imagine Gandalf or Darth Vader in skin-tight gear, they’d look ridiculous. Epic fantasy characters have “large” clothes, it’s just the way it is. If you want modern clothing you should be playing GTA Online or something.

I certainly will not advocate for the removal of trenchcoats, long coats, dusters, skirted jackets, or whatever else you choose to call them, but I will provide feedback to a company that wants (more of) my money.

I would like to see more options for medium armor added to the game. I would like for this increase in options to include more close fitting, non long coat (etc), styles for males in particular.

I would spend more money on the game if such (often) requested options were added.

What, exactly, does this have to do with the topic of skirts/long coats? There are plenty of examples of “not-large” skirts/robes/long coats as well as “large” ones.

It’s meant to look epic.

Epic is very much in the eye of the beholder. Large and epic are not the same.

Like, imagine Gandalf or Darth Vader in skin-tight gear, they’d look ridiculous.

No, they’d look different. Gandalf wears a classic wizard’s robe. Lots of robes/skirts/long coats in GW2 fell very far from that tree. Vader wears bulky gear because his body is deformed from his injuries. Conan is often pictured in just a loin cloth, or sometimes a tight chain shirt and tight leather pants. Even in LotR, Legolas and the hobbits did not wear bulky clothes. Then there’s Red Sonja…

Epic fantasy characters have “large” clothes, it’s just the way it is.

Nope, bulky =/= epic in any objective sense. You’re free to think so for yourself, but the game ought to cater to more tastes than just yours. You’ve got plenty of skirts/capes/long coats. It’s time to balance the playing field.

If you want modern clothing you should be playing GTA Online or something.

I’m not asking for modern. The styles from the original GW game offered a more balanced variety of looks. Those didn’t look modern, and there was more variety.

I have no problem with trench coats if they’re done well and most aren’t, including brahams new armor. Everything about it I LOVE except the coat part. It’s too stiff and wide. Also, looks incredibly terrible on norns. Seriously, the coat part is much wider on norn. If you’re going to make a coat Anet, atleast make it look good on norns too.

Now, for once, we get a game that has clothing meant to make females look epic rather than kittenty,

We must be playing two different versions of GW2… ’cause even if epic-looking clothing is an option for females, I see WAY more female PCs with skimpy and over-sexualized appearances in-game (and the screenshots people post of their characters) than I see with something epic and/or sensible for battle.

~EW

It’s no news that players in MMOs rush for the skimpy outfits even if those aren’t the main trend, most people need to compensate for other activities they don’t seem to have. But in that case, what are you complaining about? You have what you want. There’s some trench coats, so what? You can reskin your gear so just do it if you don’t like it.

I have the Aetherblade medium set skin on my engineer, it’s neither a trench coat nor is it skimpy. I really can’t see the problem you could possibly have, unless your objective is to get trench coats out of GW2, which isn’t going to happen.

Also if the game’s artists like medium trench coats then who are you to tell them otherwise? It’s their game.

lol. It’s a business selling to customers. Not a fashion show for themselves. If customers don’t like what’s being offered then they should say so and say what they want. Do you actually think ANet doesn’t want to know what is liked or disliked when they sell something in the gemstore?

You can convince them to nerf or buff classes and make some minor changes here and there, but I highly doubt you can ever make them change the theme or design choices of their game, no more than you can change the core mechanics of its gameplay. They’d just tell you to go look elsewhere.

You buy the game knowing what you’re gettng, it doesn’t grant you any say in how it should be directed, if you think so you should read your ToS all over again.

What are you talking about? The OP is about the gemstore outfit which is another trenchcoat. Asking for non trenchcoat outfits is against ToS? As for armor, there are non trenchcoat medium armors so asking for more non trenchcoat armor is against ToS? Were you aware that female Charr and Asura only had male armor and outfits at launch and because of feedback from people wanting female armor and outfits for them they now are getting female outfits and armor?

Against ToS?? Really? Lol.

Who are these people wanting Female armor for Charr and Asura? The new Wolfborn outfit, Ancestral Outfit, and Exemplars Outfit (IIRC) have been ruined by making them gendered on Charr (The Ancestral outfit being the worst by far – The male got an excellently tailored suit that conformed to the anatomy of the race perfectly. The female got a stretched, clippy mess with a boobwindowtonothing)

Medium armor wise, the Ley-line Coat is a beautiful vest ruined by a bulky buttcape attachment.

Who are the people wanting female armor on female Charr and Asura? Numerous posts and threads on the forum over the years specifically asking for this. It was a fairly common request until ANet started doing it. You’ll need to google to find them. I read the threads but I didn’t bother to bookmark any of them. As I recall the argument was that their female Charr and Asura needed feminine clothing to make them feel more….. feminine. It wasn’t my argument. I hated the idea and argued against it based on lore whenever it came up.

However it does show that ANet listens to requests on the forums and will change the cosmetics available to chars in the game according to these requests, even if it’s a request that goes against the lore. It apparently only needs to be a common enough request made over time. Like any company they want happy customers bringing in money.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

I’m definitely tired of all the long coats and butt capes, but Braham’s new outfit is one trench coat that kicks kitten. This one was really well designed. It’s rugged yet a bit stylish and fits most races’ forms well. Even satisfies the demand for revealing male armour while maintaining a masculine look. I dig it.

I can’t think of a coat that shouldn’t have a wide load sign on the back, when worn by a Norn. It’s embarrassing.

Also, why do so many long items (coats, skirts, etc.) flair out at the bottom. Clothing falls straight down IRL and it just looks odd and bad that it doesn’t do the same in-game.

I think that Anet needs to use a little common sense when it comes to female clothing for the Charr and Asura. On one hand, some players would like clothing for their characters with a more feminine look, on the other hand clothing meant to enhance breasts might be silly on characters that don’t have breasts in a human-sense.

Sounds like Anet failed in that respect.

This used to exist in the game, with old Town Clothes. I really loved that part of it, just not some of the problems with the town clothing mechanics. But yeah, just look around at all the tonics they made out of the old Town Clothes, there was plenty of things that was normal clothes. Miss them.

To be honest, I never much saw the problem. But then, the coats just made sense on all the medium characters imo. If anything, I’d like seeing more of them in the other weights.

(And I am one of the crowd that is why skirts happen—I want human dudes to have more heavy pants resembling dresses. Not skirts, dresses. Give me some length. Carapace is literally the best. Can’t say everyone wants something when clearly ‘everyone’ is just a fraction of a whole. Much like the wedding outfit is absolutely abominable on a female charr. No respectable legions soldier would get married in that bit of human froppery and ribbons)

Seriously?

For years, MMOs have almost always had skimpy outfits for female characters. Now, for once, we get a game that has clothing meant to make females look epic rather than kittenty, and you demand it changed even though you already have what you want on thousands of other games out there?

That’s just greed man. There are already some skimpy outfits in game, you should look elsewhere or find other activities if it’s not enough and if you’re looking for something different.

You clearly have some problems to recognize the difference between skimpy and “fit for war”. Rangers and thieves should have A LOT more options to wear armors that are no longer than a hauberk. Is it so difficult to stop at the knees? Do we always have to choose “armors” that cover our feet too? What’s the idea behind all this for classes based on their agility? Dodge, stumble upon the skirt, and roll into enemies like devastating leather balls? Why can’t we have MORE armors like the triumphant one? The brigandine is the PERFECT chest piece for a medium armor .

You can look at a combo that I use in the Rangers screenshots thread. Is that “skimpy”? do you see an inch of skin in that screen? is that “less epic for a female” than one of the 82467 threnchcoats or skirts?

Clothing IRL can be designed to flair out. However flared clothing has been out of fashion for almost a century.

And then there is Victorian clothing where everything has flaps and poofs.

Being a Gundam fan, now I must know, screen shots of people that look like Gundam’s please!

Anyways, really want to be able to use medium legs on light armor, and possible even light armor chest on medium armor. So I can actually try something that doesn’t look like it would get me drowned the moment I try to swim. Or feel like trying to climb a mountain in a wedding dress or something. I just want to be able to make something that looks practical to move and fight in, that also could somehow give at least a minimum amount of protection.

(Granted, going by historical stuff, nothing in Medium and Light armor in this game would actually qualify as Armor at all.)

Anet totally missed the mark on clothing in GW2, CLEARLY not the same designers as 1 because clothes were 10x better looking. Member when mesmers wore actual attire and not kittened capes all the time? Member??? Same goes with pretty much every other class.. there was ton of normal clothing. All we want. kitten capes and skirts jesus is that literally all you can design?

The reason gw1 didn’t use capes and skirts was technical, not because of taste.

Back in 04-05 when gw1 was being developed cloth physics was a new tech that was just starting to make it’s appearance in games, only the newest engines had it and even then the cloth physics was generally rough and buggy.

Game artists of that time avoided capes, trenches, and dresses because they simply didn’t have the tech to animate large flowy cloth.

I bet the reason gw2 has so many capes and skirts is because the artists at Anet where ecstatic at having the tech to do so, and do well.

Except there was also caped clothing and skirts in GW1 and dresses too.

The simple fact is they had better looking gear at least in my opinion because they weren’t so over exaggerated and 99% buttcape territory.

What if I just want a regular looking outfit? There is one that I found in this game that I like and almost every piece is from the gem shop.

It wouldn’t hurt to add regular pants and shirts without dumb attachments to them. 4 years of them adding almost nothing but buttcapes.. come on it’s getting so old.
