Q:

Since today, guardians and elementalists seem no longer to be able to destroy the Tripple Wurm’s eggs as projectiles in flight (using Shield of Absorption or Swirling Winds). This essentially cripples the current “meta” tactic of killing the wurm.

Is this an intentional “fix”, or a sad mishap?

When it was discovered we asked specifically about it and the answer we got from developers was that this is intentional. The change was also not mentioned on the patch notes which makes me think it could be a bug. We need to wait until we hear something though.

I also want to add that you can still block eggs, the same method used blocking the husks.

So far what I’ve confirmed is working is untraited wardens and obsidian flesh on elementalist. Both require timing and obsidian-flesh-method needs three very precise spots inside of the wurm. This latest wurm me and my team on amber managed to block around 60% of the eggs.

Getting rid of creative skill usage and promoting DPS checks once again, seems about right with their design philosophy.

All Anet needs to do now is remove all the cliffs/walls for phase 2 and introduce instakill aoes to combat stacking

Then Wurm can be difficult!

Well, to be fair, deboofing was a kind of lame tactic anyways (just one guy killing a whole boss mechanic?) and was most certainly not intended by the designers.

However, given that reflections in general have been changed and not a single word is mentioned in the patch notes, I assume that this change might be unintentional.

Thing is: Diboofing the wurm was not 100% failsafe. There could be husks or other little wurms distracting/killing the diboofers and there you had the eggs.
Diboofing was an interesting and important action in order to kill the wurm.
Without it we got eggs. And what are eggs? They are DPS-checks to kill before larvae spawn. They are not affected by conditions, thus further promoting the best build ever: Berserker.
I was so happy about the husks, for they are the first attempt to make a condition build viable.
To me this change says: ‘Screw your tactics, build Berserker and Zerk the boss down.’ nice move, anet.. nice move.

Sounds like a bad move to me. I liked the idea of the Wurm having different “teams” with different roles. Like Eladamri, I was thrilled that condi users were in demand for the Wurm. It was nice to have ANet embrace builds that weren’t focused purely around the “moar deeps!” playstyle.

We were successful on a TTS run a moment ago… traditional guardian reflects and such don’t work, just as reported. There’s a lot more damage to mitigate, and it feels quite a bit more difficult than before.

Mind those eggs!

A work around is being used now, I am not sure if it will be good for the event though.
