Troll report
How does ANet tell the people who are ignorant/not good from the people deliberately trolling if they don’t say anything?
The people who don’t respond, the people kittenpond with refusing to listen/change what they are doing, the people who acknowledge what they are doing and make it clear they are only doing it for the purpose of kittening others off. How’s that for a starter?

A smart troll never tells he is trolling. He lets you think he is being completely serious or genuinely kittened.

If they don’t respond, maybe they have chat off, including whisper or don’t pay attention to chat while playing or speak a different language and don’t understand yours.
The people who do respond, it’s always possible they were messing up by accident, saw you get mad and decided to yank your chain by saying it was on purpose.

Don’t respond could be a language barrier.
Refusing to listen could just be stubborn and don’t like to be told what to do
1/3 is a bad starter imho.

Can we have a way to report trolls in game? People whose sole purpose is to ruin the experience for other players, screw up events, etc. At this time we have no recourse when they appear and make our lives miserable.
Unfortunately, this is a problem with every MMO. Why? Because playing an MMO means playing with other people….lots and lots of other people, and there is just no realistic way Anet could efficiently “police” trolls in an MMO. And if they did try, people would be raging on the forums about unfair bans, censorship, false accusations, and more. It would be a complete nightmare for Anet.
While I sympathize with your situation (I hate trolls too), Anet already provides us with some tools to deal with trolls such as the blacklist, kicking from squads, and various reporting options. You can also use your initiative to simply leave a squad/guild/gaming area if trolls are a problem. Remember, trolls need to be fed to be kept alive, if you leave them, ignore them, blacklist them, etc. they will eventually die (in other words, go elsewhere seeking attention).
Roll a fractal, put up lfg, fill up and have people ready to go. One of them whom I assume just hadn’t switched yet is a lvl 27 necro, said necro jumps into fractals, runs to an orb, grabs said orb and then just kinda stands there. This wasn’t a level 1 fractal, this was a 38. Tell me how else should I take that?
As someone you should kick. Then invite someone else

Yes sometimes there may be a language barrier, I find that a bit harder to believe when they are in an English named guild. Yes, sometimes people might have chat turned off, I find it hard to believe that they didn’t see my chat when I’m jumping up in down in front of them and using say chat (as well at whispers) and have tried to invite them to party to see if they’d respond to that—-group events—-.
You say they may be new, great then they should be excited to get help no? You say that they might not like getting told what to do, if what they are doing is going to break the event they are on would they not take a minute to consider an alternative —foulbear--
I can go on and on. As I’m sure all of you could as well, for any reason I come up with I’m sure all of you could come up with an excuse, but I mostly did this because trolls just screwed me and I was kittened. Working on moving on, but they are a never ending problem as I’m sure most people have experienced.

If I were that person, it meant my internet connection chose that time to lag out so I couldn’t move. But barring internet problems, you kick and get someone else.
Try to remember Hanlon’s razor and it will help your blood pressure when dealing with someone you think is a troll.

Really AP? You are willing to say that you would join a fractal group, have a good enough connection to enter the fractal, go to an orb and pick it up and then have the connection time out? Key part here being doing that on a lvl 27. Now you’re just grasping at strings.

Well I have pretty good connection, usually 4G, but sometimes it will drop down to 3G and I will completely lag and can’t move. Personally I wouldn’t do higher level stuff when I know the connection is poor but sometimes, it happens. I can have days of good connection and then abruptly lag out.
Even people who don’t have stellar connections want to play the game. I know you people would prefer that people who don’t have the best, stay in our corner so you won’t be disadvantaged, but such is life.

If it would apply, you might report them for offensive chat using the in-game report system. The team will look into what they’re doing and may be able to verify enough to take action. (It’s admittedly not always possible to do that, but they will try.)

I’m not questioning the part about lagging out, it happens to the best of us, I’m talking about jumping into a level 38 fractal when you’re level 27, (just in case this isn’t clear I’m not talking about their fractal level I’m talking about their character level).
It’s an MMO, which requires you to deal with people, sadly. It’s a drawback to an otherwise great game.

People doing stuff you don’t like are always trolls.

Where did you say it was about jumping into a level 38 fractal for the part I responded to? It was about going into a fractal and lagging out.

OP asked for a way to report these players, Gaile answered. Pretty sure most sensible people know how to deal with trolls. Besides, what the OP was describing are grievers, not trolls.
Trolls just say things that instigate pointless arguments or blow up chat just to get a reaction from people because they get enjoyment out of people’s various reactions. I admit I too sometimes say dumb things to get reactions out of people for my own amusement, but I don’t actually go to the realm of what some call ‘verbal abuse’. To combat a troll is to simply ignore everything they say. Done. When I say dumb things in map chat and there is no response, hey guess what, I stop.
Grievers, though, actually DO things that affect your game play, such as was described by others like holding an event item and stopping progress, or joining a dungeon group and kicking players out, or pretending to sell a dungeon path and just kicking a player out of the instance after taking the money.
Trolls and grievers are not the same thing.
Gaile, might I recommend adding a ‘player grieving’ option in the reporting feature? I could have sworn we already had that option.

Agreed. Trolls and grievers are not the same thing.
However if a Griever Report were introduced… I foresee just as much misuse in it.
Goodness I know I would have many “grieving” reports set against me within the first week just because of one event – an event in which I break from the “traditional” way of doing things and usually get a lot of heat for doing it.

So kick them. A perfectly simple and effective method of dealing with the problem, that is already in-game. You don’t need to report them as well.
They are probably afraid to add such a tag or report method after the Guild Wars Factions mass bans brought on by the Report Exploit. If you added a means to report as a troll, its too easy for someone or someone’s to mass report that person, they themselves becoming tolls.

Whenever I get serious, yes my head is not functioning the same way as others, people call me trolling.
This can be explained by my stubborn nature and hermital habits.
But I mean what I say. Socially I’m on level 1. That’s why my message doesn’t always get there the way I mean it. And I know that can be solved by taking other people into attention. Seems it’s easier for me to focus on the subject that forms inside my head than other people.
So I’d say trolls are magical non-existant nightmare creatures. We just imagine them. Someone can be “trolling” but let’s just remember that we are all humans. Surely everyone have their little reasons why they behave wich way.
It’s psychology.
Define trolling.
Just because someone doesn’t want to fail an event doesn’t mean they’re trolling. Just because someone wants to play the game as designed doesn’t mean they’re ruining your experience.
What is the excuse for all those non zerker players and stuff?
Ah yeah, “play how you want”, there we go.

I hardly think preferring one set of stats or build over another is the same as preferring to troll or grief others.
Bad analogy is bad.
If someone in chat is claiming to be an Anet developer should that be reported? If so, under what heading?

If they are impersonating Anet staff I would guess the verbal abuse report would be the one to use. Although not actually verbal abuse it will get Anet to review the chat and action it if they see it as a violation.
Other than that your other option is to do a screen cap of the chat dialog and submit a support ticket under “In Game Issue” then for the drop down menu for specific issue select “Violation Report,” and send them all the info you have available.

As to whether to report. It’s my understanding that falsely claiming to be an ANet employee results in a ban.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/legal/guild-wars-2-rules-of-conduct/
5. You may not impersonate any employee of ArenaNet Inc., NC Interactive, Inc., NCsoft Corporation or their affiliates, or impersonate any other person (including, without limitation, celebrities).
The only effective thing to do is stay offline and block anyone who tries to come up to you and be unfriendly.
The report functions in-game are very poor. You cannot even report someone spamming emotes until you physically find the person.
I just wish that Anet took this problem more seriously. It is a large problem with many MMOs, Guild Wars 2 is no exception.

This is one of the biggest reasons I love this game is that if someone is obviously out of control and trolling Anet will at least try to do something if they possibly can. Other games never bothered and some even took pride in their trolls.
