I’ve seen a LOT of confusion as to the true stats for the CF SoM. My understanding based on the item’s in-game description is it has the same stats as a Basic Salvage Kit. According to the following update to the Wiki, the August 26, 2013 update changed the rarity of the kit to Rare and it started acting like a Master Salvage Kit. I’m interested in grabbing one but I’m a bit reluctant to do so without knowing exactly what I’m buying.

Can one of the good folks at Anet give us accurate stats on this item?

Pretty Please :o)

“Originally the item was Basic rarity and functioned exactly like a Basic Salvage Kit, however after the 26 November 2013 game update, the rarity was changed to Rare and users reported that it began functioning like a Master’s Salvage Kit instead.1 The description remains unchanged, and it is uncertain if this is intentional behaviour.”

I would say its definetly not basic stats, even though the text says so. I bought it on sale, but up until this evening I have been using leftover basic salvage kits, which behaved “normally” sort of speak. As soon as I started using the salvagematic, I filled an entire 20 slot bag of various minor runes in one clean out. The drop chance is much, much higher.

That said, IMO it should be master salvage to begin with. Nothing permanent should be of low quality. That’s like if the perma mining axe could only take iron and copper.

There was some debate about this on reddit recently too. People theorized that now that the rarity of the item has been changed (it’s now considered rare iirc) that this also affected the salvage rate.

Personally I can’t really confirm or deny if it has been buffed. Subjectively I seem to get a few more Runes and Sigils than I used to…but not significantly more.

I’m still on the fence myself. It’d be very convenient, but if it is truly using the “Basic” stats, it wouldn’t be worth the cost in gems. Hopefully Anet can shed some light here.

:looks around to see if any Anet folks are paying attention:

Well if you got the cash just get some rares and do 50/50 salvages with masters/salvageomatic. Shouldnt be hard to see a pattern since basic would be considerably worse than rare. I’m sure someone will easily drop 200 rares on it just to try, lol.

If you turn on the rarity indicator option in the inventory, does it show as yellow?

For the cost in gems, I would not buy it if the the stats were anything less that Journeyman, and would still not use it on any rares. At the current exchange rate, you can get 49g78s79c for your 800 gems. That can buy 324 master salvage kits. 36394 salvaged items which would cost 10g91s82c in salvage-o-matic fees. OR, 5657 basic salvage kits. 141425 salvaged items, which would cost 42g42s75c in fees to the salvage-o-matic. The salvage-o-matic just has too much math against it. Even if it were using master stats, it would still be expensive.

I believe, like the gathering tools, the brunt of the payoff is intended to be in the form of convenience.

I do think it’s behaving as master, but I’ve been getting less ectos in the last two days, I can’t say for sure if the problem is the salvage machine or I’m just having bad luck.

From that perspective, no permanent harvesting/salvaging item is worth the money, they are bought only for their convenience. You no longer have to carry several kits nor have to run back to a merchant to buy more, so we could say it’s only worth it if you salvage a lot and want to save time.

Already did that. Don’t use the Copper-Fed Salvage-o-Matic on rares. I lost like 20g

Also, I have 2 chars, one with Mystic Salvage Kits and one with the Copper-Fed Salvage-o-Matic and my char with the MSK always run out of inventory space really fast. My char with the CFSoM never have that problem.

Edit: I just saw other posts with the same doubt so maybe I need to test a little more (still, I don’t recall filling my inventory with sigils but I was sick so maybe I just didn’t paid attention).

OK, after some test yes, the Copper-Fed Salvage-o-Matic is now working as a Master/Mystic Salvage Kit.

Now just need to wait for an official response to see if this is a bug or working as intended (in which case definitely I will buy another one).

It is most likely a bug. The kit is definitely buffed though. I’m waiting for everyone to catch wind, buy it, then ask for a refund when they fix it.

As long as it stays advertised as a basic kit I don’t think they’ll be so fortunate with the support tickets.

Agree, it’s a bug. I don’t think they’ll take the “wrong tooltip” route, instead they’ll just fix it under the hood.

I’m leaning toward the convenience factor. I play quite a bit of WvW and it is easy to fill inventory with a ton of items to salvage.

Day 1 – 33 rares salvaged, got 24 ectos
Day 2 – 30 rares salvaged, got 17 ectos
Day 3 – 29 rares salvaged, got 11 ectos

I’m not willing to test more I’ll go back to mystic kit for rares.

Yep, after playing all evening, I can say I got less ectos with the Copper-Fed Salvage-o-Matic (it seems the more you use it, the less you get).

The only real difference (almost 100% secure) is you’ll get a lot of sigils.
