This was something that concerned me about the warning we all were given.

As it was, the report feature was used by some to stick it to the person they disagreed with. Sometimes for legitimate reasons, sometimes for an enormous stretch of the policy. Sometimes even illegitimate reports would see action, which of course could be successfully appealed.

With the new uberpunishments, this petty behaviour can be a lot more destructive.

I have already seen people calling others out, trying to explain loudly how the other person’s post is breaking the new rule. It is more of the same stretching of the policy to punish one’s opponent. Plainly, it is trying to get someone banned.

Is there any deterrant to this? A person reported can’t simply report the one who anonymously abused the Report feature.

It’ll become the new meta of forum bickering. Trying to entrap a person into crossing a line, then lawyering an explanation of how that broke a rule, and getting the person banned.

I hope that in making this bold move, ANet considered this second-phase consequence and has an answer for it.

It is a good move. The mods do right in banning people criticising their game. What the kitten do those people think they are doing anyway?

There will always be collateral damage, but in the end you just silence some more potential critics. So it is better for all. Let it be a lesson for everyone.

Second poster (i don’t call names), i think the OP is trying to say a different thing.
What if someone doesn’t like one or more other forumers (for whatever reason), follows very carefully their posts, and report them for every single little thing he/she thinks is an infraction? It may really become pain in the kitten to choose which report is useful and which one is not, and even the best person can make a mistake…

edit: I apologize if i missed the sarcasm with the atmosphere we breathe currently in the forum, it could be a reply given without the slightest sarcasm.
of course, the rules are quite clear, but it is often written “following your posts history etc etc”… Is it stalking? by simply clicking on the user name, you can read all the posts someone wrote till now

As an example:

“In addition, you agree not to do any of the following: […]“Stalk” or otherwise harass another member.”

You can report them in that case.

As previously stated by Regina & CC Danica, the enforcement of our Code of Conduct is about personal attacks against our staff members. Furthermore, every report is reviewed by the moderation team, and if the reported post is not breaking our Code of Conduct, there can’t be any infractions nor forum suspensions.

Like the in-game report feature, the report tool of the forums is here in order to help the team. A report is not always leading to an infraction, as those reports are reviewed before any action is taken. Therefore, if you are not violating our Code of Conduct, you won’t be suspended, even if another forum member is reporting your posts on a regular basis.
