Just as the title says. My guild is working on decorating for Halloween but the area we have chosen is way too bright because of light from torches. We have tried to cover them with large statues and other decorations, but the light remains. It would be awesome if there was a way to turn them off.

Introducing a way to dim/turn off any ambient lighting could also be useful with gilded hollow, especially with all the shiny surfaces. Personally, I think making it so that created decorations (torch, campfire) can be used for lighting is a good idea, whereas having a fully lit map limits the potential for player creativity.

That’s because it’s ambient lighting not coming from Torches, etc. The campfires, bonfires, etc have no illumination to them either. I REALLY wish they did because I’d like to brighten some area’s of my Guild Hall. More control of lighting would be a good thing across the board.

Op, the reason you cannot mask those light sources is likely because they are not shadow casters. The area those light boxes encompass will always be 100% lit out to their maximum radius. Giving players the ability to play with light sources would be a can of worms as you can imagine the crashing people could cause if some of them were shadow casting light sources.

Deco doesn’t have light sources because those deco were handled with invisible light sources added separately.

It’s also not that they cannot add deco with light sources built in or even sepperate invisible light sources, they probably wouldn’t want people adding a pile of them at the spawn point in guild hall causing some players to crash on load.

Just my thinking on light sources anyhow. Would love to have them too, but i can imagine players locking themselves out of guild hall accidently.

What we need is some sort of “Aura Stone” An object that projects an ambient zone in an area.

For instance a decoration that’s rather small about basketball in size or smaller) that when placed causes a about 5k game units around it to change ambient lighting.

There may be a technical issue of baking textures, depending on how gw2 does lighting. I’ve seen a lot of lighting transitions such as entering caves, so it “should” be able to do it.

I like this idea. Limit the number of aura stones that can be placed in an area, separate from the standard decoration limit. One per 5k game unit area. This should help alleviate lag and crashing issues that previous posters have highlighted.

Perhaps even limit the total number of aura stones in a guild hall to some really low number at the start of their introduction to ensure crashes don’t occur. Maybe start with 3 aura stones per GH? Not sure, just pulling a number out of a hat.
