In another forum post I mentioned that when my banked silver ore and ingots are full, I use them to create jewelry to salvage into Essences of Luck. This seemed to generate a little bit of interest, likely because of how useless silver generally is to many people (myself included).

Tonight I found my bank full of silver again, so I decided to record my results of turning it into Essences of Luck. I by no means promote this as the bestest way in the whole-wide-world to use your crafting disciplines to gain Essences of Luck. I just wanted to demonstrate a small sampling of numbers from tonight’s crafting. Whether or not it’s useful to you or pertinent info is up to y’all.

The process was simple: I made 30 topaz earrings, and used the mystic forge kit to salvage them. Any jewels and gemstones I got back I recreated into earrings and salvaged those results. I kept repeating this process until I got no jewels or gemstones back.

I did the full process twice. Once was for the Masterwork Topaz Silver Earring (Green), and once for the Fine Topaz Silver Earring (Blue).

So, here are the results with some minor additional math:

Topaz Silver Earring (Masterwork: Green)

Total topaz nuggets used: 30
1368 Gross ore used (684 ingots)
261 Ore returned from salvaging

1107 Net ore used (553.5 Ingots)

Total luck gained: 4,350
Luck breakdown:
10pt x195= 1950
50pt x44 = 2,200
100pt x2 = 200

Ore : luck = 1107 : 4350 = 1 : 3.93

Mystic Kits used: ??? (I forgot to count)

Topaz Silver Earring (Fine: Blue)

Total topaz nuggets used: 30
1104 Gross ore used (552 ingots)
231 Ore returned from salvaging

873 Net ore used (436.5 Net ingots)

Total luck gained: 1,250
Luck breakdown:
10pt x60 = 600
50pt x 11 = 550
100pt x 1= 100

Ore : luck = 873 : 1250 = 1 : 1.43

Mystic Kits used: 133

For those who are interested in how many mystic kits I used for the Masterwork earrings, I’m sorry that I didn’t think to count them until well after I started totaling up the numbers.

In the past I’ve always just made the green Masterwork, so this was my first time doing this process with the blue Fine… I don’t see much reason to ever do this process with the blue Fine again unless I really want to get another sampling.

As one final addendum, in the past I have received the 200pt Essence of Luck from doing this. It just didn’t occur on this occasion.

Anyways, I hope this very small sampling is some worthwhile food for thought for some of y’all.

Ty. I’ve been meaning to try this. I’ve got all those stacks of silver ingots I’ve been holding for way too long. Might as well get a bonus to my magic find from them.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

Why are you using mystic kits for this if all you’re going for is luck anyways?

Don’t look like it’s worth it.

Have you calculate it’s better than selling blue and green on TP or even ectos.

I think it’s because he’ll loss the jewel if he don’t use mystic.

Which makes it obvious it not worth it. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Yes, I use the mystic for the 80% return on the jewels. If I were to use crude or basic kits instead, I’d need to invest a whole lot more silver and gemstones (creating jewels) in order to make the same amount of jewelry that I got out of utilizing the mystic returns. I recognize that mystic kits have a much higher cost/use than crude (10.496c vs 2.13c).

For example, let’s assume that the amount of kits I used in the MW jewelry above was the same as the Fine: 133 kits… it’s likely close to that number. My initial investment of 30 earrings means that I made 103 earrings w/o creating jewels… meaning I saved 412 ore that was more efficiently spent in making more jewelry to salvage. Using crude kits, my estimated ore:luck would change to 1 : 2.86 at best (I don’t know how quality affects return of ‘normal’ mats, as opposed to upgraded and jewels. So, it could be a worse rate).

(As far as I’m aware, the type of kit has no effect on the amount of luck one receives salvaging.)

In my huge wall of text I stated that I’m not saying this is the most efficient use of silver ore… It’s a use that I prefer over putting the jewelry or the mats on the TP. Sure, there are probably more efficient and profitable ways to utilize this ore. And, I certainly would never propose that a person buy ore for this purpose. It’s mats I had for free, so the only out of pocket cost to me was the mystic kits at ~10.5c/use to get a pile of EoL.
