Did any of you ever make two characters that of the same class. If so, why? I’m just curious, is all.

3 Engineers.
3 Elementalists.
3 Warriors.
3 Mesmers
2 Rangers.
2 Thieves.
2 Guardians.
2 Necros.

What can I say, too much time and money and I like to play dress up on different race/armor weight combinations. 12 of them are lvl 80 and rest are getting there slowly.

the first ele is my oldest char, the next one would be another guardian.

then after a loong break of 6 months (had to work somewhere) i came back and i had no idea where i stopped and what to do….

i read some patch notes and decided to try out the new leveling experience.

so i made a new guardian….gave him a new haircut and new hair dye, he also got a exotic hero sword and a a hero rare staff….so yeah, i invested some time and he got some different things that the old one and thats how i ended up not deleting him.
same goes for the other ele with max bag space (old one doesnt have it)

I’ve got two spots left, considering making more engies tbh.

I have two warriors and two eles, mostly because I lost hope of ever getting a race change. Also the duplicate toons happen to have crafting with recipes I wouldn’t be able to replace so easily.

Two Eles, just to play dress-up. Going to roll another Guard or Warrior eventually when I’ve saved enough gold and Tomes of Knowledge to take me straight to level 80.

I’ve got 2 Rangers, 2 Warriors, 2 Necromancers, 1 Elementalist, 1 Engineer, 1 Guardian, 1 Mesmer and 1 Thief

I plan to have 2 of each eventually though (still hoping for more races)
I do this because of cultural armors partly but mostly becuase there is no option to save and swap builds in Gw2 like there was in Gw1

So I make multiple characters with the same class so that I can have multiple builds so I do not need to retrait and carry around excess gear all the time

Only have one of each, probably going to keep it that way unless Anet releases a new race someday, unless it comes out the same time as a new profession then I’ll combine the two.

All but 4 are level 80.

-I enjoy levelling and exploring- probably my favourite thing to do in game.

-I like to develop new character ideas and overall aesthetics and often try to theme my characters around weapons or armour that I like the look of.

-Multiples of the same professions allows for interesting replays using different builds or slightly unconventional weapon sets. It adds a bit of challenge, to me gives an entirely new experience/feel to that profession and teaches me more about the game and mastering that particular profession.

-Of course, I could just delete and remake a character rather than buying extra char slots, but that would be like destroying your own work. Besides, extra char slots is a bit of a gold sink for somebody who has no huge in-game financial goals (e.g. ascended armour/legendaries). I also kind of consider my characters as little personal trophies- a way to reflect on the work done and fun had… even if I only use them for extra JP loot.

-Like Taku has already kinda mentioned, it’s a personal goal for me to have male and females of all races and all armour weights. I like the diversity that this can add, although I might end up trading out my possible male norn mesmer to a female as I’m not confident in my ability of designing a good looking norn male light class.

-I’ll also probably end up 8 asura of all different professions… just because I love them This to me also makes it more worthwhile buying T3 cultural armour as I feel like I might actually get reasonable use out of it.

-It certainly is an expensive way to play and not for everybody- I understand why people think its a weird way to play as you spread your ingame finances very thin (so it’s difficult to save up for ascended armour, legendaries, T3 etc). But for me I would burn out very quickly on just 1 character. I’m not really into Fractals or Dungeons so after that there isn’t much repeatable endgame for just one character that really suits me.

2 Mesmers, 2 guardians and 2 necros. First mesmer was an asura. I hated the animations so i made a 2nd human female mesmer. First guardian was a sylvari. He started out male then got a sex change. I then decided i wanted a human. So i made a new guardian. Second necro was just created out of boredom and i wanted both a male and female necro for fashion reasons.

5 Rangers (one of each race), 2 Engies, 2 Warriors, 2 mesmers , 2 guards – Why? The ranger is because it’s the class that feels most natural, others have been because of their looks/mannerisms and/or race.

Nope, given there’s no fixed progression/perm choices I see no reason to have more than one class, as the racial differences are insignificant

11 chars, one of each class plus 2nd war+guard+thief.
1) Firstly because some of my chars were human and i decided i wanted they all to be Norn, except my human necro because she is kitten and mesmer because i don’t like playing with mesmer.
2) Fashion > Gold.
3) Sometimes theres Gold sparing, Tomes of Knowledge stored in bank, a character slot discount…

Yes, then recently deleted my multiples. Too much trouble having many alts with how the game has changed since launch.

I have two warriors and two rangers. My second warrior I made because I wanted to run a different build and would rather swap toons to play a different role rather than carry around multiple sets of gear and have to re-trait every time I needed to change it up. My first ranger was a charr so he’s rather large and I play rangers in pvp so I made my second ranger an asura for the simple fact that in pvp they can be a pain to select in the heat of the moment. (Tab is key) I would also consider making more of the same class so I can wear different cultural armor, as heavy norn and sylvari are my favorite cultural heavy gear.

Ele, engi, ele, ele, guardian.
It just somehow happened.

Then there are 42 characters at lower levels.

…Yeah. There might be a few.

Oh, adding a little bit… There’s… 9 elementalists? At least I think so. (now that I actually checked it’s 11!)
Mesmers of every race, happened by accident and just realized that a little while ago.

Not counting key farm characters, I have multiple of everything but mesmer and necro.

I’m a RPer, so when I make a character they tend to have a style to them. Changing that, even if it’s practical to do so, just doesn’t always feel right. Some of them may never see level 80, but I still don’t want to erase them. If the game got that bad for my alts, I’d likely be at the point of quitting anyway.

I’ve got some overlap, but it’s mostly so I can experience different stories. I don’t really see a point in focusing on more than 1 of each class, unless dressing up or racial abilities mean that much to you.

I have two of everything except thief and engi, because alts! I love me some alts! You should have seen all the alts I had in City of Heroes. It was an alternators paradise! I have two Guild Wars accounts because there was a time when having a second Guild Wars account was the only way to have more Guild Wars characters — and when extra character slots became available for purchase, I purchased some. I’d have an alternate thief and an alternate engi here in GW2 by now if not for the trait system redesign, which, after I experienced it on my post-trait system redesign NPE ele, has ensured that I will not be rolling any more new characters here. I have 3 characters of every class. I wanted to do 3 different builds of each class without the hassle of having to swap gear/traits.

I’d rather have a second character with a different gear setup than use most of a 20-slot bag carrying a second set of armor, trinkets and weapons.

I had one of everything…. and that got boring….

So now I’m making a double of each profession.

2 Mesmers

and elementalist will be next.

Its also really easy to swap builds/armor simply by swapping toons.

Just because I can, and I like playing with different skill combinations, weapons, and traits. My next char will be an Asura Warrior, but I havent decided on male or female.

2 Engineer, 2 Warrior, 2 Mesmer, 1 Thief, 1 Ranger, 1 Guardian, 1 Necromancer, and 1 slot free for key/skin runs.
2nd Engineer was for a flamethrower build with skins to match (must upload a pic to the mix’n’match thread)
2nd Warrior was because I wanted a charr of the armour class I haven’t got for the race.
2nd Mesmer is part of a joke.

2 Necromancers.

First I made as an Asura, as the name Lord Gnat (carried from GW1) seemed to fit best with Asura.

Then I decided that Sylvari would make a much cooler looking Necro, so I rerolled.

I got 64 characters in total...

I have had 2 of every class @ level 80, at a minimum. Currently I have 3 lvl 80 Rangers. They are all outfitted in exotic/ascended, some with several sets for various stats/builds.

2 guards, 2 necros, both for race changes. One of each was before the trait change and I had never really played the originals.

I decided I really wanted the guard race change so I fought through the trait slog, getting all traits. After that, I decided that I do not want to do it again and have used my new necro as a mule.

I have 2 thieves atm. Mainly because I wanted a male Norn thief, but I had troubles deleting my original Sylvari thief since he’s one of my first characters. I now use my Sylvari as a mule though.

2 eles and 2 guards. My first ele is an asura, but then I decided to make a human ele to play dress up. As for my guards, first was sylvari but I didn’t really like him so I made a norn instead.

I rolled a second guardian just before the NPE to do a self-imposed levelling challenge of not using waypoints or the map outside of cities or towns and running everywhere instead.

It was a really good way to reconnect with the game world, but the character is currently paused at level 31 while I’ve been playing the LS on my main. I also tracked gold separately for this character and sold everything I looted/salvaged on the TP, and after buying level 30 armor and weapons (including runes/sigils) I still had just under 9 gold just from playing normally, so I’d be interested to see how much I can accumulate by level 80

Two rangers: Was torn between Norn or Sylvari and went Norn who is now my power ranger. A couple years later I now have the urge to play a condi ranger. Thus my Sylvari ideas were used.

Two ele’s: was torn between two norn looks and finally decided to make the second one. Still debating the new ele’s build but she looks awesome!

Will probably make a second thief eventually as well. Have some cool ideas for a sneaky asura:D

Two eles. One I downgraded to be my bankchar. Because of that and because I wanted to check out the NPE, I made my second ele.

different builds and gear…and I kind of like the leveling process so it works for me.

5 mesmers (2 at 80)
4 eles (3 at 80)
3 rangers (2 at 80)
2 guardians (both at 80)
2 warriors (1 at 80)
2 engineers (1 at 80)
2 thieves (1 at 80)
1 necromancer (lvl 31)

The characters feel vastly different to me thanks to the different races, and I enjoy being able to choose whatever class and race I feel like playing at that moment. Aside from humans and necromancers (only have one of each) I enjoy pretty much every class/race combination this game has to offer, so there’s still room for improvement here .

And on EU I still have

Why did I have duplicates? For the US dupes, just because I wanted to level and play through the game again. The EU account was made just so I’d have RP possibilities when US was quiet.

I have two mesmers. two guardians and two warriors. I simply really enjoy making new characters. I would love if they added even more customization. =)
