Which specific role do you think the 2-handed axe should fill?
For example they can’t give a 2-handed axe as a weapon choice for Warriors and make it a Melee aoe damage weapon because that’s what the GS does.

I think it could serve as a condition damage weapon that uses AoE. Got me thinking of Dread Knight which uses curses to make his enemies weaker and torment them.
For warrior it’s pretty much only sword that has conditions but it’s mostly for bleeding and its AoE is small frontal. Longbow is mostly fire and ranged.

4 & 5 only hit one target. 3 doesn’ t deal dmg (kinda) and the 2 sucks (IMO). Hammer is a better AOE weapon on warrior + it got nice CC.
GA could be like hammer – CC + damage. Or actually condition…
I want GA so badly! To me the game would seem more complete when those are in.

So much yes for 2 handed axe, not so much for it being a condition damage weapon. AoE heavy like hammer purrhaps, less so focused on CC but movement hindrance?
I would much rather necros getting a two-handed axe instead of a greatsword.
Obvious other choice is Warrior.
I would enjoy greataxes and I can see rangers, warriors, maybe necros and guardians using them. I would also like to see crossbows—maybe for engi and thief, land spears for whomever, and whips—we saw bandits wielding those in the Halloween labyrinth, so the animations/skills are there.
3block breaker
Guard Break would be a really cool mechanic to introduce. I would actually put it on slot 5 (with a longish cooldown) and make it work like this.
Quickly smash your foe with a deft strike. If they are blocking, this skill bypasses the block and deals 50% more damage. This skill consumes 25% endurance (or some other specialty cost)
Additionally, they could add traits which add stun and other effects to Guard Break skills. Such skills could be added to other classes too. I’m a fan of this idea because I love Guard Breaking in Dark Souls 2.
greataxe should be a harder hitting version of greatsword, and swung maybe a bit slower. not having any ‘flurry’ skills, but mostly whirls.

News Flash: The mention of new weapons for classes almost 2 years ago has not been implemented.

Correction: the only GS skill that hits only one target is 5 (Rush).
Burst: 5 target circular AoE.
1 – 3-target 180-degree frontal aoe.
2 – 3-target 180-degree frontal aoe.
3 – 5-target (maximum 8 hits) circular aoe along its path (and if you think it doesn’t deal damage, you have got to be kidding)
4 – Number of targets unspecified, but I would guess 3. Also a projectile.
