Is there any possibility that these characters; Tybalt, Sieran, and Forgal, could return to the game? In my opinion, their sacrifice at Claw Island just seemed way too short lived. I can acknowledge that their deaths acted as a plot point to boost the story and motivate our characters to sort of grow on their own and later aid Trahearne to become the Pact leader and defeat Zahitan, but now that Zaihtan’s dead I think it’s time to bring them back. Whether it be from another dimension where their all Revenant’s; or their current Professions, with no memory of their former feats with the hero; new personalities maybe? maybe not? Allow them to form a group similar to that of Destiny’s Edge and Kasmeer’s band aiding the hero in the fight against the next Elder Dragon after Mordem. It would also be a lot more nostalgic than adjusting to a new character from scratch as well.

I acknowledge that the Pact acts as a peace treaty between each order, although is there any possibility that the Order’s we’ve chosen can depict more diversity for quest content that will be aimed towards that specific Order?

So what do you think? Yes? No? Maybe So?

I’d rather they not return to the story alive. It would cheapen the story. And this is coming from someone dreading getting to Claw Island on two of my alts. One is the first time through the Priory chapters. The other is my second going through the Whispers. And Tybalt is my favorite of the three.

And if you give them different personalities, they’re not the same character which would defeat the purpose.

However, I wouldn’t say no to the Order chosen having an impact on story options for HoT.

I’d like them to come back as Halloween spirits, all talkative and jovial but with something slightly “wrong” with them. Sort of like Hogwarts ghosts.

You must accept their deaths and move on. Wanting them back even with different personalities is very creepy, bordering on monstrous. Like bringing them back from the dead with the wrong soul in their body. Who would be happy with that?! They died, stop trying to dig them back up.

Personally I maintain that they are where corrupted and “supposed” to be the mysteriusly intelligent and tactical risen commander you meet later in the story at the archeological site. And incidently end up slaughtering. This commander is never explained even though it seems that you are supposed to know him. Change the name to your mentor and it suddenly makes sense, doesnt it?

So sorry, fuzzy cudly Tybalt wont come back because you killed him.

Sieran didn’t die. She faked her death to the Undead and Perma Mist Formed away. She eventually stowed away on a ship out in the ocean to rest but it wasn’t sailing back to LA, it was on its way elsewhere but was sunk by a storm. Sieran eventually found herself stranded on an island alone and went insane, changed in appearance and started calling herself Owain, which was the name of one of the crew members who befriended her. She’s still on Southsun Island now struggling with trauma, mental illness and her addiction to Karka eggs.

I’m waiting for the Priory to invent an alternative universe machine.
You can run the machine to see ‘what would it be like if the Claw Island didn’t happen’. More missions you get to run with your Mentors. The Order sends you two out on various secret orders. More good time to be had. Make it like a Fractal Dungeons or something.

Well i did add the Another dimension theory lol so technically speaking they wouldn’t be dead. Also of course i wouldn’t want the previous characters to return especially considering their fate. Although a shift in scenario or a what if situation if they had survived, while demanding, wouldn’t be so far fetched, especially with the concept of WvW and fighting against opposing invaders from another said dimension.

Sieran was SUPER annoying. While her sacrifice was noble and all, she was extremely scatterbrained and (frankly) stupid. She seemed to go from completely naive to completely selfless in about 15 minutes which was quite jarring. Her death didn’t affect me at all. I’ve only got one char, it’ll be interesting for my next one to see if one of the others is a better more rounded character I’ll actually care about.

God I hope not. Claw Island is my favorite chapter of the person story, but even so the writing for the mentor sacrifice portion is atrocious. The idea that a completely incompetent individual (as the mentors are demonstrated to be prior to this point) can hold back the risen army on their own long enough for wounded to be escorted or carried away is ludicrous. If one of the mentors can hold the army off for even a second then the PC and the remainder of the defense forces should have no difficulty pushing the risen back into the sea.

Mass quantities of risen were already on the other side of the gate, between our characters and the conveniently undestroyed ship, rendering the whole I’ll hold them off here while you escape self-sacrifice thing pointless. Plus, in the time we wasted chit-chatting about it, we could have already boarded the ship and been on our merry way.

I think anet should revise that mission and (ahem) bring ’em back alive!

New dialogue options for the scene at the gate:

Mentor: I’ll hold ’em off! You guys get outta here! Goodbye, cruel world! Ahhhhh!

Character:

1. Okay, then. (Mentor dies, character flees, ship sails, story continues as before until it hits the NPE’d portion.)

2. What are you, some kinda skritt wit? Get your rear in gear, we’re outta here! (Character flees, mentor flees, ship sails, mentor is promoted and assigned to a desk job in Siberia never to be seen again, story continues as before until it hits the NPE’d portion.)

3. Character knocks mentor out, shuts the gate, defeats risen army and dragon; Zhaitan subsequently surrenders and convinces the other elder dragons to join him in a Carpenters cover band, everyone has a beer except Trahearne, who is the designated driver and has a diet soda.

The table is a fable.

sorry to be blunt about this but those ideas are for 1. incredibly stupid and 2. slightly funny but not nearly enough to actually want it to happen

now it is entirely possible you intended those situations to just be funny and not actual ideas if so again sorry

Ok, so here’s my input on this. I decided today that I was just not going to go on and not have an answer to what happened to Tybalt. Just not going to happen. So, I swam around the island, back around to the beach, and up into the court yard. And lo and behold, Tybalt was laying on the ground. Yes, dead unfortunately. It didn’t even look partially ceremonious or as if he had done anything other than die just as the gates closed. BUT, there were a handful of Lionsguard fighting off risen, which were easy enough to kill off, leaving only the dragon remaining. Now, I had hoped, in the slightest chance for just self satisfaction that you could rez him, as someone else mentioned in a post somewhere else, but no, that was not the case. So, your mentor simply dies, unceremoniously at the gates, having done nothing to thwart the risen, and pretty much dying for nothing. It doesn’t save you time, and there’s no recognition of it out of the personal story. I am very, very disappointed in how that has played out. Seriously? If the lionguard soldiers who were still there fighting could hold out, I’m sure whomever was the “mentor” could have done just so instead of dying right at the gate. Also, part of that plot hole, does the mentor really need to sacrifice themselves? No, because once the gate is closed, oh look, more risen to fight through! It doesn’t stop them, it doesn’t slow them down. You only lose a character that you’ve grown fond of because….? What? To make you want to get even with the undead hoard? Yikes. I’m sorry if this offends anyone, but that’s just not a strong story line base. I get that we need to introduce Trahearne and make him the center of focus. I just see the knocking off of characters that end up being, well, personally significant, without any justifiable reason other than to act superficially brave, despite it having no impact what so ever… It’s really lacking. It all seems so… rushed if that makes sense. I can see the idea of them dying in a more prolific way having a greater impact on the story. In fact, I would have liked to see the story between joining a faction up until Claw Island being flushed out a bit more. There’s a lot of potential there that I feel was overlooked, probably for time line restraints but…. seeing as there’s an expansion coming out, I am hard pressed to believe that was the case. I don’t know, perhaps I’m the only one who would love to take days, weeks, months even to go through a personal story line and draw out as much of it as I can. Have conversations with the NPC’s, make minor decisions that wouldn’t change the course of the storyline, but add flavor to it. It makes more of an impact. Like, instead of weeping for this npc I’m going to throw a bookshelf out in the road (just kidding, but you get the picture.) Flushing the personal story line out would be so much better. Honestly, most players can get through the personal story within a day or two. I know this isn’t going to be massively in depth, but some more… flavor would have been nice. My other gripe about this, for people who do care and like the npc’s their involved with, why not give an alternate ending? In reality, how much would that change the way the game is played? So, for example, you’re able to rez Tybalt or Sieran or Forgal during Claw Island. Ok, well, we already know we have to set off with Trahearne. We have our new NPC. Why was it so important to leave the other’s dead? Did they really have an impact on what happened. Not really. Maybe having an extra bonus of taking the time and possibility of your character dying to save their comrade would have made many players happy. Personally, I’d never leave anyone behind, but that’s just me. But then again, that loops around into the whole “selfless act” not making any sense. What I’m saying is that the whole Claw Island part was very poorly written. It wasn’t a point in the story that made sense for a main npc to die, it seemed shallow and more gearing you towards the new NPC that would take the stage. I think I am more disappointed with this part of the personal story than the majority of it. Think about it. It would be like Obi-kittenenobi dying by the hands of a group of storm troopers instead of facing off with Darth Vader. It just seems like it would have been nice to have a choice in the matter, and that having more of an impact. But, yea, if you go back to the court yard after the gate is shut, the NPC’s in question are very, unceremoniously, unrevivably dead. Heck, I don’t think they even come back as risen. They’re just dead. For nothing other than to bring another NPC in. Sorry, it’s only just an opinion, I sometimes expect too much out of games/stories. I know that’s not mmorpg’s are about but… one can wish right? First time Tybalt died, I’ll admit, I bawed like a baby, like a freaken baby. But, second time around, it get’s you thinking. And I imagine those going for longer thinking similar things, or not, depends on the person. It’s missing it’s “muchness”. But it is what is is.

I think there is a lot of “microanalysis” of the story line, especially at Claw Island that really isn’t beneficial to experiencing the overall theme. This whole battle chapter of Claw Island was supposed to be immensely huge, although constraints in computer programing maybe, the content is quite downscaled.

But, you aren’t supposed to be able to swim around and see (or to know) that your beloved mentor dropped at the gate unceremoniously. You’re only supposed to know that the battle is lost (and you’ve got comrades limping on both your arms depending on you (in your heroism) to get them to safety while they honor the stall tactic, even if it’s only for the benefit of 5 minutes by your mentor while you’re all limping and fighting to the ship. Your escape is supposed to be within a hair’s breadth of all your lives and would not have been successful had not your mentor shut the gate behind him/her and faced the enemy while you saved lives and got back to LA to direct the next course of action in the defense of LA and the thousands of innocent lives there. At least that’s what I took away from that chapter.

And the writers of the story placed that element in it for an emotional charge. It’s what I pay for when I pay for entertainment like this. Good story, emotional components, enthralling, engaging me to go on and eventually when completing it, wanting more and feeling sad the whole personal story adventure is over and loving the new adventure to begin.

I want more personal stories. I want more personal adventures. It’s why I pay for this game. I like the stories.

And yes, I wish we could see our mentors again. I can think of all kinds of scenarios to do that, but the creative content belongs to the owners of this game and I’m just along for the ride. I don’t know if they are taking player suggestions into account.

It would be neat if they held a “creative content” contest like thing where we can submit our “fantasy stories” on a limited subject, such as the fallen mentor, for example. They could allow us to have some input in the actual creative aspect of the stories in the game that way if they wanted to. If they didn’t want to, well, that’s all right too. I appreciate their creative license. It’s another reason I pay for this game, for the fantasy content.

I can see back when the PS how this would have made a good idea. That you would need something to push you forward from essentially being a trainee to being a commander. Given the outcry though, or at least a widely expressed fondness for the mentors, that anet could accomplish the same goals through another means.

What if your mentor was injured during the escape? Because of that they had a desk job instead of being in the field. Occasionally they would inspire you to do something that would make them proud or congratulate you on something. They would be like the sage person there who you always wanted to impress. It would have the same result, if not more so. It would also be a perfect counter to Treaherne hollowly saying ‘good job’ if you knew you were making your former mentor proud and placed more importance on that.

For example, beyond my initial 4 characters none of the rest have done the PS beyond picking an order. It is not that they can not do those steps, but I could not knowing that each mission was one step closer to their mentor dying. In that way the mentors still exist for those characters but do not for my initial ones.
