Tyria Mastery Points.
Just remember mastery points are another attempt by ANet to force players to play the way ANet wants you to play, not the way YOU want to play.
How so? I spend a tiny number of hours doing various tasks, some of which sometimes introduce me to interesting stuff (lore, locations, game modes) and …then I’m done. The rest of the time, it’s up to me how I play.
And even then, mastery points are only as restrictive as earning hero points to max the elite specs (albeit with fewer options overall).
I don’t love the mastery system, but it’s hardly some sort of Orwellian reward tool. (INB4: I checked and no, they didn’t make me say that either.)
How so? – when you can only get Mastery Points for participating in very specific types of play, that is forcing you to play the way ANet wants. Unless you want to ignore all the character options purchased with MP (ignore most of the expansion I just purchased). I don’t do PvP, WvW, Fractals, Raids, or have lots of gold (just to name a few). As a dedicated PvE player, I am forced to do things I don’t like in order to participate in the MP system. There are literally no options to earn enough MP only doing the things I like.
But… why do you care about the MP system, at least for Tyria Mastery points? You clearly don’t give a kitten about any of the rewards from them. As a dedicated PvE player, you should have plenty of mastery points from the story missions and random stuff around the world. Unless, of course, by ‘stuff I want", you mean “Grinding Silverwastes all the time” – at which point you’re not really mastering the game, are you?
They’re mastery points, gained by mastering the game. There are three tracks of them in Tyria:
Pact Commander. You can easily get all the points for this through Personal Story, Living Story, and boss fights against the threats of the pact. If you’re not willing to be the Pact Commander through these activities, you don’t deserve Pact Commander mastery because you’re NOT the pact commander.
Fractal Mastery – If you’re not interested in playing fractals, why the kitten are you interested in this mastery chain?!
Legendary Collections – If you’re not interested in random collections, yet want to craft a Precursor… sorry, but you’re gonna be in for a bad time.
Yup, when we are not willing to play as Anet forceful way, we lost experience in this case. I am an example to lose any experience earning since January or last December. So I stop to play, that’s. Follow them or lose it. Vet player really not much help to Anet pocket. Time to shift and back when they change their rules. BTW, their elite specification also anti-alterholic. I have 14s x 80. It was really a hello of work to complete 9 elite spec, and I would not do it again for the rest and to level another new new alter. TIME to run for a better world for me :-) Hey, just a game, man.
Congratulations. You’ve hit your level cap. Why do you care about gaining XP anymore?
personally the mastery was a good idea until the point you run out of them points and are forced to do thing that i have never had a interest in doing since GW1, pvp, and wvw.
Why can we not spend Spirit shards on the mastery points. some of us have no use for them. I remember when they were ready to release GW2 they had told us alll the game was going have a different focus that grinding was not going the central focus of the game. BUT !Grinding seems to have become the focus of the game. it is great when you are a child that has nothing to do in life but play dress up with a virtual action figure and the such along with the reflects. The mastery point is a big issues with a lot of people. Anets take on this seems to fall on deaf ears. Well Anet my i remind you the kiddies that get the money to spend in your Gem Store come from the pockets of the work parents that are playing the game as well. Also the progression number that has not been added to display next to the char name is BS i can understand if it a pvp rank or a wvw but as a normal game related display is BS. it is like you are trying to shame the average player into do things that they do not want to do almost like Anet yourself is trolling players. This number is excluding people from content like the raids and such because it like getting picked to play kick ball or dodge ball.
I myself would liked to know what was going through the Dev head when they added that feature. it is as bad as when people where being excluded from content in EoTN because they did not have a high enough Ursa level. For a Game that is trying to get people to play together it seems that they are causing a bigger line of division among the players.
I can see why there are a lot of people that i have know since the days of GW1 long time players that where there since the beta days have left since the HoT release. I myself have been in the GW universe since year ONE and it is getting to be like one of those cheap tacky Korean games that are free to play where if you want to be able to do anything you need to buy cash store items. I think the game is going in the wrong direction and has started to focus on cash store more then the enjoyment of the player. I hope that Anet wakes up and try and include all ages of players. Mean there is a vast amount of us that are not 12 years old and have to run to mother every time we have gained a achievement. You want a legendary fine grind away you want ascended armor fine grind away at that but if it a core game skill sets do not insult us by making us grind away at things we do not want to do. because a lot of us enjoy the game as it was intended and not the Fashion Wars it has turned out to become
With no new legendary weapons, any of those that don’t like the existing HoT legendary weapons can now skip that mastery. There’s 9 mastery points that you do not need.
For fractals, you don’t really need that last mastery so that’s another 5 MP that you don’t need to get.

Well you don’t do fractal so there is no reason to unlock those masteries. I don’t believe any mastery points are earned from wvw or spvp so your not missing any there. As a dedicated pve player you should have all the MP from the personal story, SW, DT and the Season 2 achievements which should be enough to unlock the core mastey lines that apply to you.
I find it interesting how some people seem to know what you want with out really asking what it is you want. if you want enough mastery point you have to do content you do not want to do. you are telling people. awwww you don’t need this or that because they do not apply to YOU. the point is the central tyrian mastery you do not get enough point to master all those to max the mastery out there as for HOT I can care less if I can understand a group of frogs or endlessly glide across a map as tho the thought has some appeal. the central tyrian mastery is the most peoples issue and you do neeed to do most ALL the mastery tick to get it. because as it stands you may get enough points to get all the pact commander 3/4th the fractal and 2/4 legendary crafting which who knows if I was to have a moronic moment I might want to craft one. but if that happens I might want to seek medical attention. having these is like buying a car that has the option to have a 300 hp engine so you have the engine but you don’t have to use it but it is there if needed. I think that is the major complant with most that are not able to master the central tyrian. but also at some point Anet may add more lines to mastery in the selected lines then you are stuck and to say they will not is something you do not know unless you have a crystal ball.

There are 17 extra Tyria mastery points so players do have quite a lot of choice in how to earn them.
the point is the central tyrian mastery you do not get enough point to master all those to max the mastery out there
There are plenty of points to max out the core masteries.

There are more than enough non-fractal mastery points to more than max out the Pact Commander mastery line doing content you enjoy (As long as you finish Personal Story to actually be the Pact Commander), which is the ONLY mastery track worth a kitten to people who don’t run fractals and don’t want to do the crazy random stuff the game wants you to.
I’m not excited about HOT anymore myself. Basically with the Tyria mastery system I’m stuck trying to get more mastery points. Most of my toons are human except one toon and this new mastery system is now forcing me to create new toons I don’t need or want just to be able to master up by doing there racial stories, if I want to master up. The other options are trying to complete events when there aren’t enough people, or you error out during a big event and lose your map. I could PVP or WVW but I’ve never done it and probably never will. I could spend hundreds of gold to get one mastery point for the fashion achievement… but what, that’s just wrong! Some of the mastery point gains are ridiculous, spending hours looking for lost golden badges for one mastery point, come on. I guess it’s all a moot point if I master up then what.

Creating a character of another race will not engender any extra Mastery Points. You are awarded one Mastery Point per Personal Story level arc, regardless of the race of the character. I.e., one point for the L10 arc, one point for the L20 arc, etc.
Thus, one is not ‘forced’ to create any characters, but one.
Good luck.
