Over the years of playing this game I talked to a bunch of people about the changes we’d like to see in game. A lot of people mentioned quality of life things, such as having a way to organize all your gizmos (tonics, balloons, instruments…) and preview certain things in game, for example auras. Not to mention the almost weekly “We need a key-ring! threads”.
The thing that bothered me the most was the lack of organization in the social tab. Friends list has all kinds of things wrong with it, and LFG being in the middle of it isn’t exactly intuitive.
The hero tab is way too cluttered. Gliders, minis and mail carriers have no business being in the middle of equipment.
Wardrobe is such a huge part of the game, it deserves its own tab, in the top left corner of the screen.
Achievements and masteries are also tucked in the Hero panel, but they’re account wide, so it would also make more sense for them to join the wardrobe in the top left corner.
That’s why I decided to do a little bit of Photoshopping. I’m not an expert at it by any means but I decided to have a little fun with it and visualize the changes that I’d like to happen.

What do you guys think?

Some good work here. It’s sad that nobody will read it unless it’s on Reddit, though.

Also, I’d like to see the particular player’s WvW world name on the Hero panel SOMEWHERE and the WvW ladder shown somewhere in-game, too, since it’s so important.

Nobody at Anet loves WvW like Grouch loved PvP. That’s what we need, a WvW Grouch, but taller.

Why do people use reddit for GW2 when we have an official forum by the developers. I don’t get it.

I would be happy if the LFG tool wouldn’t start with an open tab that instantly closes when clicked on the LFG tab (you know what I mean?)

Maybe due to the fact the Devs are far more active on Reddit than their own Official forums…….

No, I don’t use it. There is no need for the LFG tool in WvW. Sorry.

Just because you don’t use it doesn’t mean there is no need for it. You are not the only one playing this game.

I’m confused how one would access achievements or masteries.

Also, I’m confused how achievements and masteries don’t qualify as hero tab inclusions. They are arguably more used tabs than the story tab for most people, and used to track (separate) forms of advancement.

Just because it’s account wide advancement to annoy people with alts less doesn’t make it any less something you’d want to keep track of in that panel. Its quite often that you want to use the achievement panel to mark achievements while doing various content, and you’re almost certain to want to mastry panel in the field so you can unlock/switch tracks as soon as you get the XP or mastry point you need.

In stead, I’d move all of the cosmetic tabs to the actual wardrobe, and keep the wardrobe on banks. All that cosmetic nonsense isn’t something players generally need to mess about with in the middle of a field somewhere, though they do often want to change out equipment between encounters or quickly swap a few traits, and those extra cosmetic tabs generally get in the way unless I’m already near a bank anyway.

I also wouldn’t take achievements and masteries out of the hero panel. I do kinda like your idea of giving the Wardrobe its own toggle, along with the expanded dye preview options. The friends request thing would require a pretty major coding change, though, since the system isn’t set up to allow you to refuse a follower.

Actually all of it would take a ton of under-the-hood work. But a lot of your suggestions look well thought out as to the desired end-state. Hopefully ANet will be inspired by what you’ve done here.

No changes to the character select screen?
I am disappoint. :\

Full Wardrobe access with dyes is a nice touch.
And give me a toy/tonic/mini tab worth using! Yes.

LFG is fine in the social menu. It would otherwise move clutter to the upper-left bar.

I really wouldn’t want my achievements/story/mastery tabs moved off the Hero tab. Again, more upper-corner clutter, and I use the Achievements tab every day.
What I would like to see is a better method of getting to the various options with one click, instead of Hero → Dyes or Hero → Minis.

Oh-hey, your notes section in that block looks similar to mine.
Speaking of, can we get a quick-delete for the block list? Usually, I block to silence emote spammers or people who /say brief periods of idiocy, but I’d also like to keep my list trim.

Many alts; handle it!

I posted on Reddit too, and it’s true, it got a lot more attention than here.

+1

I like all of the suggestions.
If this were implemented, it will be hard for people to get used to. However, if this was the UI from the start, I doubt anyone would prefer us to move to what we have now.

I like how it separates account-tasks from character ones, how it better separates wardrobe from gearing up, and separates “looking for a group” from “managing a list of friends”

I don’t like your friends request idea…
I like how it currently is. I think the UI is fine to be honest. It doesn’t need to be re-organized otherwise it would mess with the people who are currently used to the UI as it is now.
