Did you really ask for no more trenchcoat skins,
then tell them about how you spend so much gold/cash on outfits in the gemstore?

Why would they give you what you want so that you stop giving them gold/cash?

Who romps through the woods and ranges across open lands in a coat that gets caught on every passing branch and stick?

And who the heck tinkers around in a workshop in a coat that’ll get stuck in a turret gear and pull you into the machinery?

And who the heck tries to break into places with a big ruffly coat that makes noise and restricts stealthy movement?

Heck, the tattered long coats seems to fit a trapper/hunter/mountain main kind of look more than anything else, seems like they’re meant for rangers.

In other words, the coats fit NO class, knock it off, art team!

And before someone counters in with Sneaktheif and Magitech, yeah, there’s a couple skins that are obviously meant for a given class, but by and large most medium skins are just kind of there and seem more meant to fit random archetypes but not a specific class. Like pirate gear could extend to anyone, but it’s kind of odd on everyone at the same time.

At least there are a few things that fit well with those.Pirate gear makes sense on a thief, right? I mean, they’re pillaging and pirating. Right? I really think that nothing in that wardrobe is appropriate for a ranger. Maybe the GW1 Heritage Armor. Maybe.

BUT — I get your points.

I’d personally like to some some pelts or something, I think that’d be awesome.

I dunno. My engineer, ranger, and thief just wouldn’t feel like they’re in Tyria any longer if they had something other than a trench coat to wear. It’s part of their identity now. The shock might kill them.

And for some reason, my engineer feels the need to channel Van Helsing whenever she hangs out in Ascalon and she says a trench coat really helps with that. Personally, I think she has a crush on Hugh Jackman and just won’t admit it.

I don’t want to get too deep into the semantics since I pretty much agree with you, but I do want to explain my feelings on the pirate gear.

It’s a terrible fit for a thief if you’re trying to make a stealthy builded character. It works if you use swords and pistols and have an in-your-face brawler fighting style rather than a sneaky assasination style one though.

It’s a terrible fit for a high technology gadgeteer engie, but works really well for a duel pistol, explosives kind of engie. (Note a lot of the game’s less stealthy bandits are actually engineers specializing in explosives. Most of the CM bosses for example)

It’s a terrible fit for a one-with-nature wilderness survival Ranger, but a melee Ranger can pull off a “wandering swashbuckler” pirate kind of thing. The pet mechanic even plays into that since while Parrots/birds are the stereotype pirate pet, some have more exotic pets they’re known for.

Several looks can be forced to fit about any class if you roll with it, but there just isn’t enough variety in general since there’s like 3 skins that aren’t some form of long leather coat on male characters.

Also, yes, pelts. I am all for pelts and furs.

I would also love some medium ARMOR. Chainmail and some actual leather armor. There are very few pieces that really have that kind of look.

And it IS a trenchcoat on my male engie and female asura thief.

I just can’t be bothered to open up the game and screenshot it, so I tried to helpfully provide a link to the wiki, where it shows all version of the skin on both genders on all races.

Out of all the possible race/gender combos that can wear the skin, it is a trechcoat on 7 out of the 10 possible combos.

I’m glad you got a skin that works for your character, but I think it is valid to want more variation on the male, Asura and Charr skins as well.

We shouldn’t HAVE to have a humanoid female character to look good in medium gear.

I admit I was a bit unfairly snarky about it, which I apologize for, but you get my point, right? A lot of skins that actually look really good on humanoid female characters become just yet another trench-coat on everyone else.

That’s somewhat ironic given that rangers were the only ones with trenchcoats in GW1. Assassins (ancestor of the thief) wore a combination of form-fitting leather, occasional spikes and entire sets of cutlery.

That said there’s enough varieties of trenchcoat in medium armor now to cover pretty much every concievable flavor you could want from a tenchcoat. We don’t need any more, ever.

Are you guys trying to apply logic to a FANTASY game?

Let me remind you of this female armour that leaves exposed some of the most vulnerable parts of the body.

I’m not defending the proliferation of one type of armour, but if you are suggesting that it should be changed on the grounds of REALITY, you should consider thinking of a another reason.

To be fair, isn’t that a Light skin, making that a cloth outfit rather than actual armor? ( could be wrong, but that Looks like the Profane skin to me?) But yes, your point is valid, but applying logic isn’t irrelevant. I’m not saying everyone HAS to wear stuff that ‘makes sense’ but if I want my own characters to wear stuff that ‘makes sense’ that’s my own customization choice to make, is it not?

I want crazy fantasy stuff that’s on fire, glowing and has floating pieces AND I want more realistic reality grounded choices. Why not?

I would love to see one real trench-coat, I wanted to give one of my characters a trench-coat because as all your images show, none are true trench-coats. But indeed, other then adding one true trench-coat some diversity would be nice.

About the price, I have no problem with the $50,- it is above what the other MMO’s out their do and that was acceptable if indeed this was Anet was making it’s money with these expansions because as you say “They need to earn money somehow”, the problem however is that for the last 3 years they have been making the money the same way as those other games out there, micro-transactions, and it hurts the game. I have no problem with those $50,- but then I also don’t expect the cash-shop focus.

It’s one of the reasons I made a medium armor class. And they’ve been getting pretty good about considering the charr’s tail in things, so hey.

Well, it is medium armor… not quite heavy stuff, certainly not lighter. There are some options out there for medium that can make a non-longcoat look.

I use at least two and they’re really cool when I feel like something different.

Like I said I don’t care if we get more non-longcoat looks, by all means. That’d be great. As long as we don’t preface that with “no more longcoats”. I sorely disagree.

I adore trenchcoats! I might actually play my Warrior and Guardian more if I could use medium armour skins on them. Heck, I might even roll some light armour classes if the option was there.

They are great, all-purpose utilitarian clothing, just what an adventurer needs!

Besides, you have outfits if you want other appearances. For example, both my rangers use outfits for light fitting clothing, then change back to their sexy trenchcoats when they want to get down to business. Switch from evening attire to rugged bum-kicking style in the blink of an eye!

And failing that, you always have town clothes with their myriad functionality and fit!

So many options!! What more could you ask for?!!?!!!!!111eleven!

This style really fits my character cause in the personal story he’s also from nobility.
Trenchcoats are fine by me, just don’t make them dominate your customisation options and design them in a way that enables various customisation options. With this chestpiece I got lucky, I still think that the shoulders look kind of clunky, but I had little to work with. Gl to all the other stylists out there! ^^

Kinda funny because I’d see the medium armor classes using more pockets and stuff then tight leather outfits without pockets.

Though I’d not call Vigil medium a trench coat at all… SOME themes fit long coats, some don’t. I’d see a ranger who spends most of their time in the wild to prefer a longer coat then a short one/tighter leather. You can use a long coat as a makeshift blanket if you have to. I mean, a coat is easier to manage then a cloak which a lot of fantasy realms/stories have people using.

My norn ranger doesn’t have a long coat ingame anymore (used to use tier 2 norn armor before wardrobe), but I could easily see her wearing one over her armor at times. In general, the medium armor is filled with coats. I’d call some simply normal coats, and not ‘long coats’.

I envisage rangers spending a lot of their time running through forests.

Long coats would catch on everything – undergrowth, low branches, fallen trees – it would be a total nightmare.

Trenchcoats are for open ground and well, trenches…

I feel that a sleek top and leggings, with as little in the way of extraneous attachments and loose material, as possible and flat boots, would be far more practical; or even a catsuit type thing.
