I think the back item skins are incredibly ugly.
Some are decent but they don’t fit the armor.
I’m glad you can hide back item skins…

I would suggest racial specific wings or capes (maybe legendary?).

Had capes in EQ2, very nice. But then I quite like the “bear” look of my crafted pack

That is just the thing with opinions. People have different ones.

I know there is a wardrobe…
And yes I don’t like all of them on any of my characters (all races and proffesions).
I have crafted Synergetic Tempered Spinal Blades, which is in my opinion the best looking skin. Unfortunately it doesn’t fit any armor.

There are only 3 Backpacks i really use .. Desert Rose, Fervid Censer and Light of Dwayna ^^

Before the wardrobe when i only had one Fervid Censer i also had hidden the backpiece on all my chars.

But i dream of having a horse as a backpiece ..

I just don’t get it. What kind of warrior wants to have a fluffy back item skin or a chest on his back? Am I the only one who doesn’t like the back item skins?

I hate most of them, most backpacks are ugly and I wonder who would wear them at all? I l like quivers and some other backs but be glad you have the option to hide your back. Though I, as a warrior, shouldn’t complain as engineers’s hobosack question is still not answered though there were quiet a few solutions recommended on the forum.

Haha a big part of it, yes, but more referring to the boots.

Maybe the armor you have chosen is not aesthetically pleasing as those armors that ‘match’ some backpacks. Then, again, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, is it not?

I have some armor configurations that I am pleased to pair with a certain backpack, and others that I am waiting to either obtain or discover (when released) that will most compliment.

Perhaps, something new will come along that tickles your fancy. Good luck!

I hide my backpacks sometimes. Others, I dye the armor to match the backpack color. The flowers, Charr, Quaggan, and tailor backpacks look best IMO. The pvp balthazar backpack is nice too.

Like you said, it is YOUR opinion, we do not have to agree with YOUR opinion.

Otherwise, we can also tell you this: we don’t see why you cannot agree with us that these backpieces a a refreshing sight over all the generic capes and wings we get from other mmos.

In OUR opinion, they might not be ugly, even if they seem so to you.

I really don’t get the point of people saying that this all is a matter of taste – who in their right mind would deny that easily 90% of the backpack skins are ugly as sin (the crafting ones for starters). Sure, not every backpack skin can be supereliteawesome, but why bother designing and rendering all those backpacks literally no one uses if you could’ve just made a handful of (hard to get, cash shop… idc…) really cool ones that people would be excited to use (capes come to mind). It really feels like the lead artist wanted to be careful not to make any of them “too cool” for some reason.
As with most armor skins the backpacks aren’t a choice of which is the best looking, but which one is the least bad looking.

PS: instead of derailing the thread by telling the OP that what he posted is HIS opinion (yeah no kitten son), why not give a reason why there shouldn’t be more esthetically pleasing backpieces in the game?

I would say that the majority of the back packs actually look quite nice in situations. It is far more than 10% at the very least.

Quaggan backpacks and the flower backs only ones i use. I like the slickpack but cant find an armor combo i like it on any heavy charr or female human (cloth, leather or heavy).

It was time gated but they reintroduced some of the season one rewards as laurel vendor items.

Easy really. I use them. Then weapon or armorsmith one isn’t too bad and I like the leather worker one with the bear head.

I do agree 100% with OP. I find most backpieces are really ugly. Exceptions that come to mind fervid/desert rose (although not very masculine on a big tough male character), Light of Dwayna, Lyssa is not bad, and Balthazar (which i just got 2 nights ago). Fractal back piece when you get it all charged up is pretty cool just because of the effects.

Yep, I hide backpieces most of the time as well. I wore my toymaker’s bag during wintersday. Usually I just reskin my backpiece to the obnoxious skins as a joke or when I’m trying to make my character as ugly as possible.

Edit: Oh and I would be completely for guild capes as back skins, had to throw that in there

I can not say I like many of the backpiece skins, but there are some that I like (fractal capacitor, mawdrey, the quivers or books) on certain of my characters. That said, I could probably make use of a cape-like backpiece, if they can make one that does not suffer from horrid clipping issues.

Artists go to school for sometimes decades to learn about perspective, composition, colour theory, lighting, live drawing, ect ect. You’ll find that even modern day abstract artists are very well versed in traditional arts and can draw a very technical image (ie a portrait) very very well. The reason their pieces are considered art is not because some rich dude likes them, but because they represent a certain aspect of their times, criticize something, express an emotion, or try to push the boundaries of what is possible in the medium of their choice.

I don’t care for most backpacks that I have. There are some not so bad ones that I don’t have.

I hide my spinal blade ones on my main Human female mesmer and my Human male warrior and pretend they’re not there. I think they would be incredibly heavy and cumbersome in any fighting. Besides they’re ugly.

I hide the Fervid Censor on my Sylvari thief and my sneaky Asura mesmer. How stealthy can they be with a bright shiny yellow flower on their back?

I like and display the Fervid Censor on my flamboyant fire female Human elementalist and my flowery female Sylvari mesmer.

Don’t like the crafter’s backpacks so don’t display them on my Norn male guardian, my female Charr engineer or my male Asura necro.

Love the Quiver of Swift Flight for my female Norn ranger.

I pretty much agree, most back items are pretty bad. Whoever thought Mawdrey was a good look has some odd taste.
