Isn’t there suppose to be 6 Elder Dragons? I killed one about 9 or so months ago, so umm it would seem that the Hero’s of Tyria are on a peace treaty with the others? I mean honestly come on?!?! This games story is starting to remind of the TV series “Lost”, where the episodes just get dragged out with mediocre filler content….

Or better yet, is this games story philosophy trying actually represent a real war time frame say like WWII, where it was dragged out for 6 years? I mean I’ll give yah props on on trying to turn a virtual war into a realistic one, but I think it’s probably bad for the health of the game!

I think it’s overdue for a climatic battle, and time to start pushing this very story driven game forward!

On a side note: This time frame of the story reminds me of the 4th GoT book, just boring after a crazy awesome story from the 3rd book.

Every other minute they talk about Jormag being a threat. We constantly have to keep his Lieutenant (The Claw) at bay.

Kralkatorrik has been leaving Branded creatures all over the place, and we have to deal with his envoy, The Shatterer.

Primordus is the reason we have Destroyers all over the place.

Right now we’re keeping them at bay until we either go on the offensive, or when one of the dragons becomes aggressive. My money is on Jormag.

And Bubbles is likely the reason for the Kraits all over the sea.

I think you missed my point… I know there’s six elders, well was. Can we at least see a glimpse in game of another…

We’ve spent alot of time around filler content related to them, well at least 4 of them, but never had any actual contact with them except Zhaitan.

You want another compelling and unforgettable fight as the one against Zhaitan? How about we give them the time it takes to build awesome content instead of rushing it and releasing it half-baked?

Also just because there are no dragons it doesn’t mean it’s filler content.

Think about this:

We just spent too much resources on the Orr Invasion. We can’t just pack up and just leave to fight another fight. The soldiers need to recover, they need to see their family and friends back home. They need to take a rest while Pact researchers build up new technology, Durmand Priory research on better ways to defeat the dragons and killing remnants that still plague Orr.

If we go on the offensive too early, the dragons will strike back while we are not prepared defensively. In Edge of Destiny, Eir Stegalkin fought the Dragonspawn but they failed. As a result, Hoelbrak was in turmoil. The pact can’t risk a rushed war while the Dragons don’t care.

Tru true. But a living story chapter involving dragon minion issues would be relevant and potentially great fun.

The brand is meant to be growing (iirc?) Maybe a sudden outpour/growth that left a lasting impact on the landscape?

Maybe a destroyer uprising brings a new destroyer menace or small volcanic rift that scars Maguuma after some inetnse battles or skirmishes.

I do believe we need more of a global and constant threat from the dragons. They feel a bit like localised nuisances right now to me. Living STory is ideally suited to improving this.

Speaking of which, they should really remake that Zhaitan battle. And yeah I kind of agree that content should focus a bit more on the dragons rather than random new factions like sky pirates appearing.

Annual events are okay though, since they add some realistic festivities, but I guess those don’t really count as living stories.

Let’s see…

  • Primordus: Unknown location underground – presumably near the central transfer station.
    • Destroyer minions – created from scratch
      • Currently held at bay by the stone dwarves
  • Jormag: Unknown location in the northern shiverpeaks.
    • Corrupting male creatures who lust for power – Icebrood
      • Holding at bay throughout the shiverpeaks
  • Kralkatorrik: Unknown location in the crystal desert. Last known location: Glint’s lair.
    • Branded minions – corrupted “mindstate” of creatures that fell in the wake of the dragon.
      • Fighting off Branded theoughout The Scar.
  • Bubbles: Unknown location under sea
    • Minions: Sclerite, presumably corrupted sea creatures with tentacles
      • Fighting creatures fleeing from Bubbles, no sign of dragon.
  • Mordremoth: Unknown location beneath the Maguuma Wastes
    • Minions unknown, speculation ties it to the Nightmare
      • No immediate threat.
  • Zhaitan: Dead in Orr
    • Risen minions, no further corruption.
      • No threat, the dragon’s dead.

So as of now, nobody wants to go on the offensive. If we strike a dragon in its own lair there could be dire consequences. What happens if we head to the Crystal Desert to kill Kralkatorrik and Jormag flies down from the north or Primordus erupts from beneath the earth to wreak havoc on the overworld? I think if I were a political advisor to any of the five nations I’d stay on the defensive.

Ah but if i was a dragon, i prob wouldnt be just bothering inconsequential villages and upsetting baby quaggans! Zhaitan at least encroached right outside the grove. Too soon for a full blown story, but in addition to my living story suggestions above, we could have a chapter of scouting out a building threat or a new zone where it is feared a new attack could come from.

They cannot rush through the dragons´ main story. If all of them had made a major appearances or even been defeated by now, major parts of the game would be “outdated” to most people storywise. I imagine there is quite some percentage of folks who haven´t even done the first dragon. Guess it will take years till we have seen all dragons – which is ok as long as they insert a living story here and there actually reminding you of the big picture.

Each dragon is an extension of the personal story, more personal story (as Colin stated in the live stream yesterday) is something that would traditionally be added via an expansion. So each dragon, its story, and subsequent battles/defeat should equate (theoretically) into an expansion a piece. Makes sense, if you think about it.

Now, we’ve been told that we will not see a new dragon this year. We’ve also been told we’re not likely to see an ‘expansion’ next year either. Colin has also stated (yesterday) that at this point they haven’t decided if they are going to do ‘traditional’ expansions, or if they are going to roll out it similarly to a living world patch (which could be pretty cool, depending on how things are implemented). Either way, lot of logistics and development involved there.

As I keep saying, have patience. Expansions aren’t generally done in the first year of a mmo’s life (or even the second).

[I think I need to change my darn signature to patience is a virtue. sheesh]

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

First ArenaNet needs to decide on what model they want to use. Expansions/Campaigns or Microtransaction only. After that has been decided we will likely get word on when we will be continuing the personal story.

As of right now they are improving the core of the game. So that a expansion does not drive people away due to missing core features(LFG tool) or laxster PvP They are also trying to keep those that currently have the game somewhat entertained.

Then after all that is done and the content is released(Whatever method that will be) we will continue our personal story.

Great post, someone has been reading up on the lore. Also that’s a very good point about just flat out attacking these dragons that pose no immediate threat to Kryta. I’m sure if the resources and manpower were there we’d go help the Crystal Desert and Cantha with their problems, but it’s probably just not possible especially after we all just fought to subdue the most recent threat Zhaitan.

I think he’s just handing back some of the venom that has been handed to him, not that I can really blame him there.

You both actually have points though. His is that we don’t know specifically ‘where’ the dragons are. Yes, you’re right that the lore tells us the general area to look, but there is so much we don’t know. Where in that general area is their lair? What kinds of defenses do they have? What are their weaknesses? What can we use to fight them… ie, do we need to take down their generals to weaken them first? In war, you don’t rush from one fight, unprepared into the next.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

This thread is long overdue. We should be on the second if not third dragon at this point. We are almost a year into the game and we haven’t heard anything. It is time to move things, the living story is nice filler content, but real developments are needed soon.

It is not like the game is lacking future potential content. We have 2 continents, tons of lore, and other looming threats after the dragon so it’s not like they need to space it out.

The average MMO player plays an MMO for a year or year and a half before moving on. The average lifespan of an MMO (actively producing content, not limping along with no updates) is about 5 years. We have 6 dragons, if we ever want to see them they need to pick up the pace.

1) They don’t even know if the next elder dragon fight(s) are going to take place in an expansion or a living story update. This is something that’s going to take awhile for them to figure out, and until they do, there’s not going to be an elder dragon fight.
2) After the massive failure of the Zhaitan fight, you should be happy they’re taking their time.
