Un-reserving a name in GW1?

Q:

My wife wants to use the name of one of my characters from Guild Wars 1, but every time she tries to create it she’s told the name is reserved.

I remember reading that GW1 name reservations would only be in effect for the first 5 days or so after launch. I also read that Anet compiled a list of reserved names. With such a list in place, could I delete this character from GW1 and un-reserve the name so she can use it?

As I understand it that name is likely used by another player if you never “took” the name yourself when GW2 released.

The legacy names were only reserved for a few days and then opened to the public.

GW1 names are still reserved. They were only to be reserved for the 3 day head start and launch day until they encountered all the login issues. So they’ve extended reservation until further notice.

The client specifically tells her something like “This name is currently reserved for an original Guild Wars player”, so I know it’s not just unavailable.

I was just wondering if it would do any good to delete the character since they’ve presumably built a list from “active” GW accounts pre-launch.

No that would do nothing. The names were transferred from the GW database at the end of August. It was a one time transfer.

Are you sure you linked her GW1 account to the proper GW2 account? Kind of sounds like that there is a link error.

Don’t take this as hard fact but I deleted my GW1 character because I couldn’t seem to link accounts. I was able to use the name.

Do you even read the question ?
his wife wants to use a name of HIS account therefore he probably linked HIS gw 1 account to his gw 2 account and his wife has a second gw 2 account.

i’m not sure but i don’t think you can link 2 gw 1 accounts to 1 gw 2 account…
a lot of people are waiting for the gw 1 names to be released but who knows when…
we get nothing precise.

Thanks for the replies. I was sort of hoping a dev might see this and pop in with something along the lines of what SlimChance said (as this is what I expect is the truth) and confirm / deny it.

But yeah, we both have GW1 accounts linked to our respective GW2 accounts. I just happen to be using a name on the original GW that she wanted to take over in GW2. Maybe we’ll get some word on this soon.

I ended up opening two accounts on GW1 and obviously could only link one to my GW2 account. Now there’s names on both GW1 accounts I’d like to use on my GW2 account, but only the ones from the linked account are available to me.

I think a good way to test that the name is reserved but not in use is to try adding it as a friend. I got a message stating that no player is using such a name. I think that clinches it.

In any case, been waiting for weeks now to use the names from my other, unlinked GW1 account but still no luck.
