Q:
Underwater & Air Fights
Will the first be a thing again in PVE/WvW/PvP ?
In PvE: Maybe once we get to fight the deep sea dragon but otherwise it will stay quite minor. In PvP and WvW: Probably not.
And the second ever happen?
I wouldn’t count on it.
They abandoned underwater combat loooooong ago so i doubt it. For air fights you need something to fly on so probably no too.
Underwater combat needs an extreme makeover that’s only justifiable once they go for the deap sea dragon.
I’m personally looking forward an underwater expansion with the sea dragon.
People may disagree with me, but that’s just because currently, there’s not much mechanism to play with underwater and it just messes with the above land builds.
If they do an underwater expansion, it is sure to be revamped with specializations that will make people finally enjoy underwater combat.
I’m sure people would love underwater contents if those have dedicated trait lines (which doesn’t interfere with land trait lines) with well-thought properties for each class.
And I’m sure at some point underwater expansion will be the most pertinent move, because it would really bring fresh air to a gameplay we’ll all get to know by heart.
Seriously, there’s a lot of potential in underwater contents. C’mon ! 3D fights !

I’m looking forward to an underwater city (Largos anyone?) where the different sections of the city are breathable and walkable (i.e. they have see-through domes around them) but where you have to swim from one section to the other.
Edit: Something else I’d like to see is underwater zones (or underground zones) which are vertically connected to eachother instead of horizontally. Or, if that’s not feasible, zones which themselves are small in terms of width and depth but large in terms of height (such as Labyrinthine Cliffs).

I’m pretty sure underwater combat won’t even truly be a thing until the Deep Sea Dragon is shown and air combat……yeah no, please no. Unless it’s something like WoW’s Icecrown Citadel raid where at one point you fight Airship to Airship, then no.

spamming 1 on a auto cruise ship moving on a straight line, rather not be added….
Also i dont imagine guild ships or anything else working in this game.

It’s clear you never played that fight, so let me explain.
You don’t just fire into the other airship. You needed to split the raid to do different things. Some need to be on the cannons since they do a lot of damage, some need to stay on your airship to defend it and some need to jump to the enemy airship and beat the leader. Doing this, on GW2’s style of fighting, would be incredible.
I want Largos. So yes, underwater combat all the way. GW2 underwater combat is the best MMO underwater combat I’ve seen – unfortunately its still clunky.
You’d think that being able to move in 3D would make things more strategic, alas underwater encounters seem to be more linear then the land based battles -.-
I’m guessing that if we get an under water zone to battle bubbles, it will not be underwater combat as is. Rather it will be more of a “heavy vehicle” type approach where people can team tag-team with a range of aquatic creatures to engage with truly colossal deep sea monstrosities. ie. Bottom crawling Elder karkas (tank equivalent), free swimming dolphins (fighter jet equivalent) or massive manta rays (bomber equivalent) or anything between. 2 skills and 2 utilities being set by the character class while the other 6 skills would be set by the aquatic creature you sit on.
And yes. Ride the Karka I shell.
hang gliders with mounted guns for shooting enemies from the sky.
