Q:

Looking for an official response from Anet here. I remember hearing some things about a possible expansion, and more maps with underwater combat. would love to see a whole map submerged… especially given how the Wintersday reward track has an exotic breather as a prize at the very end… makes me wonder there might be some craftable aquabreathers soon.

I’d love to hear if they’re planning on more underwater content as well.

I think most Necro and Ranger mains are, actually :p

When Bubbles-S arrives, you’ll have more underwater content that you’ll ever want. But, of course, people will complain nonstop about that too.

Gone to Reddit.

A thread from 2 days ago: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/What-happened-to-underwater-content/

I do enjoy underwater content, but just as much as we have it: a bit.

It has issues with skill balance, z-axis movement, perception of depth and others which make underwater content enjoyable only to an extent.

I’m pretty sure that when we come to fighting Steve Bubbles (provided we do in GW2 and not in GW3), they’ll make improvements and focus on this type of content to make more people enjoy playing it

20 level 80s and counting.

People don’t understand the mechanics of underwater combat it seems, still see people claiming ranger are horrible underwater and other bizarre comments. So ANET has done the business thing and focused on what people understand and thus will put money into (skins that no-one sees will not be popular).
I personally love the combat underwater even if some classes/profs are worse than others.

They would have to do some work on some professions underwater. Fairly clear hierarchy of underwater power in the game.

1. Necromancer
2. Ranger
3. Mesmer
4. Engineer
5. Guardian
6. Warrior
7. Thief
8. Elementalist

This is my view, anyway. Some shuffling can be argued, but pretty sure this is what most people see. Necro and Ranger are definitely at the top.

I’d also like to point out the fact that the forum’s search bar needs a massive rework, as i searched up the word “underwater” and that thread never showed up, or i would have just commented there.

Looking for an official response from Anet here. I remember hearing some things about a possible expansion, and more maps with underwater combat.

…they removed maps with underwater combat from PvP, removed underwater combar areas from WvW, and constantly forget to add underwater weapon skins to any new weapon sets they release. They even removed some underwater hearts from the starting areas. That should tell you how much they care about this part of the game.
Don’t expect new underwater areas and don’t expect revamps, or even just small fixes to underwater combat. It’s been swept under the rug, and conveniently forgotten.

Actions, not words.

Frankly, I tested a bit all classes in water. And all are pretty cool!
I think the only problem Difficulty is the 4D fighting very complicated managed. but increasing slightly our damage in water. and making us quality equipment can be a tier that.

The fight underwater, I love it!

# Asura because I’m worth it!

I’ve been an advocate of this forever (see past posts and signature). So, I’ll chime in again here and say I fully support it. I’d like to see completely underwater zones out in the middle of the ocean or a quaggan utopia or something. Make it happen.

I love underwater combat. I want more of it. I remapped by Alt key to be Down and the Space is default up, so movement really isn’t that bad in three dimensions. It’s really a shame that people don’t want to do underwater combat. There are lots of cool events underwater and I want to see more. Underwater zerg clashes are great too.

I will one up you and say that Largos should be the next playable race, with their own zones and everything.

we need flying content. give us wings and let us combat in the air.

flying is similar to swimming anyway. Mechanic wise. So just copy underwater combat to aerial combat.

instead of swimming motion, change to flying motion.

instead of water and coral around you change to cloud and rain drop.

should be perfectly easy to implement.

no. there would have to be flying mounts for that, or an extremely revolutionary invention allowing ZeroG. there’d be all sorts of issues about propulsion and drag, etc. plus would need all sorts of new moves and mechanics involved. would also utterly destroy wvw as it is now, as well as unbalance pve.

this topic remains what it is, a request for official information about Underwater Content from ANet.

We have cloth aquabreathers that allow us to stay underwater for days at a time, not to mention invisible pressure suits that allow us to go down 1000 feet and back up in seconds without getting the bends. Plus all the other ridiculous tech the asura have made. Pretty sure reality isnt an issue in this game.

But since underwater combat is basically ignored at this point (removed from pvp/wvw, underwater weapons excluded from new skins, ect.), I dont think we’ll get to fly anytime soon.

I always liked the underwater stuff on my necro. Felt like the only place the class really did well.

One is only the smartest person in the room if they are alone.

I certainly would enjoy more underwater content, including an underwater map and dungeon there, maybe a World Boss that is underwater.

As for flying, thats a totally separate topic, although I see no reason why if they wanted to do it, they could just make it map specific for one single map that is built for it where you get some sort of item that allows you to partake in it in that map and only that map. Could be a possible fun mini-game but that would be a lot of work and I think its safe to say we will never see it.

Necromancer is an extremely versatile class and high in power. their only failing point is an inability to disengage from opponents. but you are right, underwater, Necro is at the top of the field. good control options, high dps, good condi… that just adds to my reasons to want more underwater, to bring every other class’ defects and flaws underwater to light, and to bring such an awesome playstyle to the front. 3-dimensional combat is the best.
