For those of you who are using 6/6 superior runes, if you pay close attention you’ll find that your set bonus is actually broken if you go underwater. Looking at your character screen it will not tell you, but I’ve tested this with Superior Runes of Dwayna, if I went underwater and used my heal skill, it would not give me or allies near me regeneration.

Putting another superior rune of Dwayna into my breather (thus putting me at 7/6) fixed this and caused the regeneration to also proc underwater.

My assumption is that when you go underwater your headgear is basically replaced with the breather, causing you to fall down to 5/6 if you do not have a rune in the breather. However, the tooltips aren’t very adequate at explaining this. In fact if you set it up so that it will work both under and above the water, the system will scream bright red 7/6 at you as if you’re trying something really stupid.

Just figured I’d share it for people who do underwater combat.

It’s a great thing you’re doing this kind of testing. So headgear stats are replaced by breather. Could you add this finding to appropriate article in official wiki site?

Yup, I can confirm that the headgear stats are completely replaced by the breather, rune and all. I’ll update the wiki to add that.

God, just how bad are arenanet developers. It’s unbelievable. Guys (@anet), get a frigging grip. How do you think this looks like, aren’t you emberassed? I don’t want my favourite mmo being coded by a bunch of trainees.

What are you talking about? This is not a bug, it is just designed this way. Your weapons and headgear change while underwater, nothing weird about that.

I am talking about the system giving you a bright red “7” and the other threads that say how set bonus is broken if you have the same runes on pvp gear and go above 6/6.

I’m not talking about the obvious change of helmets, which is certainly correct.
It’s basically as if noone of them ever thought anything through to the end and actually tested it to see how it looks like/works out.

In general I’m highly annoyed by the density in skill/trait/rune/sigil bugs all across the game by now, and with the attitude of just ignoring them (most been there since beta).

Also, has anone actually tested a 7/6 setup and can confirm that it really works? (cause if you get >6 due to pvp items it stops working).

Ah okay, I wondered why such a small thing would annoy you that much. ^^ But you are right, these things need to be fixed. Especially if having 7/6 removes the bonus. I wish I had the money to test that.

its just another one of Anes terrible design failing. if your really pissy see what happens when you have minor / major / superiour runes in your gear.

It works for me with my Dwayna set. With 7/6 I get the regeneration both above water and under water. Removing my headgear will make it stop working above water (even though it says 6/6) and removing my breather made it stop working under water.
