Underwater combat no longer being supported?
It’s not the end of underwater gameplay/combat. In PvE and WvW it will still exist, they’re just removing it from sPvP. In order to remove it entirely they would have to make some serious adjustments to the PvE and WvW maps and I don’t see that happening.

You are putting way too much thought in this. You really think anet will remove pve underwater? That would mean reworking all pve quests that have any underwater involvement. The reason they removed the 1 map with underwater content was classes were very unbalanced. This doesn’t matter in pve because you don’t fight each other but the same scripted mobs
They’re not going to remove UW combat, but it does seem like they’re distancing themselves from it. I mean, this is The Big feature patch. A perfect opportunity to completely rework UW combat for every class, add new weapons and features (like different UW traits to land traits) and generally make it work a lot better. Instead, they’ve removed it from PvP. They previously got rid of the lakes in Wvw Bls. That means there’s not going to be any major improvements to UW combat at least until the next big feature patch… whenever that will be. If then.
So yes, it looks like Anet is quietly trying to make it a smaller and less relevant part of the game, instead of actually making it work.
The theme of this patch seems to be “spring cleaning.”
The game has a bunch of broken systems that need to be reworked before they can fix.
UW combat is 100x better than any MMO UW combat before, but that’s not saying much. As much as I like it, it needs work. They are going to be cutting back on it whenever they can until they can decide what to do with it and/or implement the tech required to do what they want.

It really is SOOOO incredible what they’ve done with it. It’s jut slightly annoying because of depth perception so it’s “useless”.

GW2 is still quite young.
I rarely do PvP or Hard PvE, unless it’s organized.
It’s the end of it (for now) in Spvp, is all. Rest of the game still left as is. It’s fine for PvE they just can’t leave an unfinished system in spvp where people are being competitive~ it’s too imbal~

I’m not sure you should assume that that’s a troll. 3d combat is a great idea that you don’t see in many MMOs and I especially loved in a certain “superhero” MMO with flight powers, jumping ground attacks and more. I think GW2 underwater combat should be improved more so it can be truly 3d combat being able to place spells/fields anywhere in a 3d space. That’s something quite special for an MMORPG vs. 2d plane combat or pretend 3d with multiple flat planes.
Doing anything with underwater combat would require massive overhauls of the combat system in the first place. That gives it a lower priority than easier to fix things, especially considering until recently, devs were dealing with the living story.
