I´ve ran across a sad fact – I want to build a unusual build for my engineer that would require Zealot gear. However, to get the gear, I would have to spend at least 100 gold for recipes that can not be got from anywhere but Trading Post.
I do see no reason why is there such a difference in getting i.e. Knigh´s gear and Zealot gear. In my opinion this dumps the diversity of playstyles alot and I dont see a reason for this.
Is this actually intent for some gear to be “harder to get” or is it just caused by the game evolving? Would there be a chance for anything to be done about it?

if it requires the trading post then it’s probably just a result of supply & demand driving the prices up high

Since Zealot is (as you pointed out already) a non-discoverable insignia/inscription, try see if you can find some cheap armors and weapons and then salvage those and you have a chance to get the insignia/inscription from them, ofc this require there to be cheap zealot weapons for it to be viable, but take a look at it.

But yeah it is kinda stupid that there is some stat combo’s that cant be gained anymore at all (as well as there are some comboes that dont exist and never had that would be nice to have)

Just ran into this when looking up Dire Gear for my Mesmer. Has Anet ever explained why certain stat combos are gated in that fashion?

Not specifically, no. In general, they’ve described wanting to mix up acquisition methods for rewards. They haven’t explained, though, why it makes sense to restrict the supply of recipes for certain stats. I’m usually 100% on board with using the market place to sort stuff out, except that only applies to “free” markets and if there’s no new supply for an item, it’s not entirely “free” (except perhaps in the strictest sense that an economist might use the term).

tl;dr no, they haven’t and I wish they’d change it, so that recipes are always in decent supply.

That’s impossible, Zealot/Keeper gear is account bound on acquire, you’ll not find it (or Sinister for the same reason) on the TP.

Its not so much the intent, as it is a side of affect how they were added. All the prefixes associated with Living Story events have all had some kind of problem with their addition. For the early ones, it was exclusivity to the event; The reason their scare is because the required sources are no longer available. Zealots got off easy because watch work picks from the gem store can give them for normal mining…… if not for that, it would had been worse.

The Season 2 additions are all account bound, and the ascended versions often gated behind Living story achievements.

To that extent, the new Prefixes are effectively fluff- with the occasional prefix (like Zealots and Sentinels) finding use in rare situations. They could fix the situation easily by reintroducing the mats and recipes through other, stable areas of the game. But so far, at best, they end up as Laural items as a way to promote the NPC itself.

When is Sentinel’s useful?

And don’t forget Sinister, which is actually better than Zerk for a couple classes.

Generally they gate the ones that make it possible for you to really fail. They don’t want new players dropping their savings on a nomad’s set without knowing what they’re getting into first.

There’s some that don’t totally work out but in general that’s what anet is going for.

Dire gear is dirt cheap. I bought exotics for my necro for less than 1g each just a couple of weeks ago.

I think that making the stuff (inscriptions, insignias, exotic gear and so on) tradable would help this stuff alot – the prices would have became reasonable.

Watch this space is all I can say and look towards HOT. They may be coming back with the new Pact Commander mastery and those vendors. Just something to keep in mind.

Since when did this business of being a hero become being a business?

Get the insciption/insignia, and then just forge-change other ascended armor and weapons into Keepers.

Actions, not words.

From what I understand this will be the way to get those old recipes. The Pact Commander Mastery Line will allow you access to vendors around the world with items that you can’t get anywhere else,

Nomad’s is pretty great though. It’s the second highest damage you can get behind berserker’s/assassin’s for power builds.

Also, the standard stat combos the game launched with are full of traps for people to build themselves into the ground with. You would be surprised just how easy it is to ruin your DPS with mixing.

edit: Sorry I confused it with Zealot’s. Nevermind. OP is talking about Zealot’s though, that’s why. xD
