I can think of two traits off the top of my head that are in dire need of renaming.

A particularly groan-inducing one is, of course, Elementalist’s Burning Fire. You know, the fire that burns. As opposed to… wait a minute.

Then there’s Guardian’s Zealot’s Speed that somehow survived for so long without being renamed to… well, literally anything else. The trait has got nothing to do with speed, and it hasn’t for a very long time.

Then there’s Warrior’s rifle skill Aimed Shot that is… shot from the hip. It’s literally the only Warrior’s rifle skill (well, with the obvious exception of Rifle Butt) in which the character does not actually aim. Call it “Reckless Shot” or “Crippling Shot” (on second thought, that already exists) or anything else, but right now it’s just silly.

There are some odd ones for sure. The guardian “Retreat!”, for example, which is rarely used to retreat, yet your character will boldly scream the imperative from the top of their lungs. Here a rename would have to be supplemented by a re-recording of lines as well, or the lines would have to be dropped altogether.

Think of the possibilities.

Hmmm, well if you think about it tho what about the “bleed” condition? I’m pretty sure anything that we kill here is from bleeding unless it’s from some kind of elemental damage. So really, “bleed”? I guess when I am stabbing and slashing with my sword and the enemy dies it’s not actually from bleeding out, it’s some kind of magical thing kicking in?

Since when did this business of being a hero become being a business?

I think bleed is external bleeding and stabbing is internal bleeding :p

Umm what lol? If your example was from someone using say a blunt weapon (club for example) for internal damage vs external damage I could see your point. But as it stands, bleeding is bleeding, I’m pretty sure it’s all external, (especially when it comes from swords via slashing/stabbing) that’s the point of what we normally call bleeding……well in my mind, in a game context anyway….

A particularly groan-inducing one is, of course, Elementalist’s Burning Fire. You know, the fire that burns. As opposed to… wait a minute.

In GW2, there are lots of skills that create fire and plenty of fiery things; not all of them cause burning. It’s an unimaginative name, to be sure; I don’t happen to find it groan-inducing within the context of the game.

Zealot’s Speed that somehow survived for so long without being renamed to… well, literally anything else. The trait has got nothing to do with speed, and it hasn’t for a very long time.

Fair enough. Zealot’s Wrath would do the job just fine.

I see it as an ironic name, since (a) as you say, it’s a hip shot and expected to be unaimed and inaccurate and (b) the reputation of warriors in lots of MMOs includes players who don’t worry about accuracy, just swing the weapon often.

I wouldn’t object to a name change, even though I don’t see a big problem with it as is.

Foes who have description: “Bleeds”
But in fact inflict bleeding with their attacks, rather than bleeding themselves.

“Retreat”, I think it should be named “Incoming” instead.

I’m a casual PvE adventurer, I enjoy combat, adventure and helping, but not farming.
I rarely do PvP or Hard PvE, unless it’s organized.

Or skills shuffled around a bit so that Retreat is Aegis + jumping backwards + for 1 second other allies can interact with the spot where you jumped from to follow you.

The strength of heart to face oneself has been made manifest. The persona Carighan has appeared.

I have no problem with “Retreat!”, actually. The logic behind it is that the char is giving swiftness to allies so that they may escape. Maybe not the best choice, but I’d say it makes sense.

This has become a running gag (teehee) among guardians. I fear for what might happen if they ever changed ‘Retreat!’ to something else. The great Monk strike of ’06 comes to mind.

May the Foefire take you!

Retreat is made as an escape skill, using Aegis to protect against CCs. Sadly there had never been anything else until Resilience that could fill that role. Having a shout that gives Resilience would be nice. “Never Give Up!”

I can’t help thinking about https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2y8Sx4B2Sk each time my Guardian uses that shout.

Retreat has never bothered me, as it either sees use as mobility or to escape/create gaps.

What bugs me is that when I use it as a means to speed by something I don’t want to engage and I start auto-attacking the nearest mob (usually the one I want to avoid), putting me into combat and dropping my guardians already abysmal speed even further. (yeah I’ll probably drop auto-targeting in the hopes it fixes that, I’m just used to it, and it helps in larger crowds)

Theres a lot of QOL issues with the target selection and UI, as it assumes everything you do is aggressive. At least it prioritizes champs……

Ah, yes, the OTHER reason why they decided to get rid of the holy trinity lol
