Hi guys, I just recently bought this game, really excited to play. My problem is that I’ve been “installing” this game since about 11:30 LAST night and here 24 hours later, it says that it isn’t even 50% done. Does this sound right? Currently on DSL internet. Tnx in advance.

That’s hard to answer without your download speed and also if you have been running it non-stop, doing other things like watching videos and such while downloading and so forth. I think the current size right now is about 28GB total. I can’t check it myself because I don’t have access to my main computer at the moment.

Download speed is currently around 165-180KB a second. as for other activities, the only other thing im doing is checking these forums.

At that speed downloading the 20ish gigs of GW2 to play will take about 30 hours, and most likely you are not maintaining a consistent speed.

Basically either you internet or your connection to the GW2 is garbage and your just going to have to tough it out til its done.

Alternatively you can try the streaming client, which will let you play sooner or even right now. Just add “-StreamingClient” to the target line of the GW2 shortcut your using, though you need to close it first.

To do that right click the GW2 shortcut, then go all the way to the bottom of the options to Properties and then add “-StreamingClient” outside of the quotation marks of the target line. It should look something like this when your done.

“C:\Program Files\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe” -Streaming Client

You could try using the streaming client. Just add -StreamingClient to the target on the GW2 shortcut. That might speed up getting into the game, as it lets you start playing before the entire download is finished.

Note that the streaming client is still a beta, but I’ve been using it for the last month or two and not had any problems.

I believe the percentage is deceptive because it’s the number of files you have remaining to load, not the overall size. And I hear that if you stop the load and restart, it will calculate the percentage from 0% again though it will only have the files left to load you didn’t yet receive.

That is correct. And some files are larger than others. So at times the download % can speed up or slow down depending on what files are being downloaded. Indeed if the client is stopped and started again it will start at 0% but the number of files remaining will continue where left off.

When my internet speed was about 100Kb/s, it took me 3 days to download the game. You’re a bit faster but it’s still going a long time at that speed.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

Do what Stitch said in this quote.^

Here’s a link to help you. https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/coming-soon-beta-version-of-streaming-client/

“To try out content streaming, add -StreamingClient to the end of the target line on your Guild Wars 2 shortcut. When you next launch and patch the game, there will be a marker on the progress bar that shows you how much you’ll need to download before the game will be playable. Once the progress bar reaches that marker, you’ll be able to jump right in and start playing.”

Maybe someone else can help you on how to do it, because i don’t know how. This way you can play and be downloading it in the background, and you won’t have to wait for the full download.

On DSL, my initial install took 12 hours. I upgraded service and now it’s 20-30 minutes for a full install. I strongly recommend the “streaming client” so you can start playing sooner.

Thanks guys. I thought that a download of that size was kind of unreasonable. thanks for the replies.
