Unlimited Transmutation Charge in Gemstore?
That’s like asking for an unlimited black lion key.
But yeah. If such a thing was on offer. I’d buy it. May even get me to purchase more cosmetic outfits from the cash shop.
Considering transmutation is most likely the #1 income for the gem store, no.
I’d absolutely be all for it, though I suspect that people buying transmutation charges is a significant portion of the gemstore’s revenue stream.
I’d love unlimited charges, though I’m not sure Anet would be wise to afford selling that for anything less than what other games charge for things like lifetime subscriptions, or nearabout to it.
I don’t know it as fact, but I’d speculate that things like transmute charges are high up their list of fairly reliable sales.
PvP and Map completion = easy Xmute stones. I know this isn’t a solution particularly but making a new character, map the cities = level 7 character. If your world is winning in WvW, map the BLs+EBG and then suddenly you have about 9-10 Xmutes +a chance of a Black Lion key. Then do your level 10 story quest line for another black lion key. \o/
charging money to use skins you have bought/collected really makes this game seem f2p scummy

They don’t charge a subscription fee of any sort. If you buy $15 worth of charges every month, you could tell yourself you’re paying a subscription fee and have a fair amount of charges to play with every month.
What would the effective difference be?
While that would be nice, I doubt it will happen. I’d be happy enough just to see a rework of the way the wardrobe system works that actually makes transmutation charges a good investment.

The difference is with a cash shop. You’re tempted and pressured to spend more than $15 a month.
They have to make money somehow. Not to mention none of the costumes in the shop are “1 use only” which is the case in most f2p games these days. We actually have the option to use skins over and over again on every single character.
I realize they have a need to make money and that is a valid argument if they are in fact making a decent amount of their money on transmutation. But on the flip side I have simply stopped re-skinning my characters aside from the freebies like map completion/daily etc. Where if they made this an option, even if it was 2000 gems which would equal around 80 charges (which no normal person would use very quickly) . I just think its something they might want to think about because they could easily milk an extra 2k gems out of me.
I dont think they will ever release something like this.
And if they do, they propably make it as a permanent contract with a very low drop rate from BLCs.
Bloin – Running around, tagging Keeps, getting whack on Scoobie Snacks.
I don’t see this happening since you would have to charge a pretty crazy price for it to make sense.
On the other hand something like a Custom Costume Slot might work.
They have costume slots and I use them but its always nice to mix and match. I figure this isn’t ever going to happen but one can dream. (or at least put the idea out there on the off chance it does happen) Also I personally am one of those willing to pay a crazy price for unlimited use items.
Tonics for example you can buy a stack at only 15 silver or the unlimited for 20g+. Even though it will never be worth it i still go for it. I enjoy never worrying about it running out or refilling.
Maybe I am just strange, but i like to think there are others with a similar mindset.
I wish they’d just hurry up and steal borrow LOTRO’s cosmetic system already… and the music system while they’re at it.

Or convert Gold→Gems… And who are these people feeling pressured by the Gem Store? They might need some serious help if those Ram Backpacks are just something they can’t live without.
