Can you guys make sure that these new traits are expensive enough that the preferred way to acquire them is to do the content. I actually would like something to do in this game and I think trait hunting could be fun.

Can we have some that aren’t purchasable even if its just time locked for a month or something. Seriously gives people something to do…..

I don’t think putting a barrier up to trait-acquisition for everyone because some might feel tempted is best for the entire playerbase.

If you believe trait hunting will be fun, then, by all means hunt those traits! Cost should not be a factor, then.

The cost should be reasonable for those with different motivations and different playstyles and different restraints. Fair for all. =)

I’m glad they gave us both options – to pay with gold or to defeat bosses to get the traits (Ah, GW1 Tomes!).

Forcing some traits to be unlocked only through completing PvE content isn’t a good idea at all, considering some players are PvP-only, and probably wouldn’t like the idea of getting on PvE, leveling to 80, and killing a boss just to grab a new trait.

Not really a barrier. Still acquirable by money but just expensive enough that people will actually want to do content for them. Never said PvE or PvP notice I said content. There can be a PvP unlock and PvE unlock for each book. My point is just it was a form of progression in GW1 that kept people busy for years it may be something that can provide the same level of interest here as well if done right.

tl:dr 3 ways to unlock ,cash should be the hardest to encourage playing the game (PvP/PvE)

If gold is the hardest way, then people will not buy gems with cash to turn them into gold and A_Net looses money.
it doesn’t really matter if people play or not, they need to buy gems with cash, this is the only income A-Net is getting. So everything is and will be run by cash until GW2 will go on Automatic like GW1

Either the way to unlock the traits is interesting in itself, in which case it wouldn’t matter what the gold cost is since you’ll want to do the unlock anyway, or it’s not interesting, which means putting it behind a larger gold barrier would inevitably be interpreted as trying to push gem purchases, and cause another ruckus in the player base.

So it mostly depends on how good the actual unlock designs are.

Dude day 1 they’ll be a “Unlock all the traits” train don’t worry.

You’d be surprised how much people want to save money. The Gold method will only be used by players who don’t think they’ll be able to complete the event due to their server being under-populated

I don’t see how a high price would effect the gem sales. I make more money in real life than I can in game in the same amount of time so wouldn’t I still be more kitten d to drop 10 bucks or do the content assuming the content was fun if the price was high? If its too low than people wont bother with the content or gems at all, they may just farm up the cash, Arena net makes no money and no one bothers actually playing the game.. The two alternatives have to be as appealing.

You basically want it to cost a lot so other people are forced into doing the content? I don’t understand your reasoning behind that. Let people obtain them any way they desire, not the way you think they should be acquired. Because any way you try to spin it, that is what you are asking for here.

If you want to do it through boss killing, no one is stopping you. I thought this was a “play how you want” game?

It is a “PLAY how you want” game, meaning play the game, your basically suggesting pay to win rather then do the content or PLAY which is what i’m suggesting.

Changing the cost structure isn’t going to make it any more or less pay to win.

Not changing the cost structure, the cost hasn’t even been set yet for traits. So we cant say that it is pay2win win yet but I would rather it not be is what i’m saying.

I’ll just go back to your OP. You want people to pay more so YOU can trait hunt. How about not worrying about how other people acquire them and just do the trait hunting yourself. You basically want anet to do something just for you.

The barrier of price shouldn’t be high. Either that or you should be able to do all the trait unlocks solo. As it is right now some of them are for example “do the Arah unlock event”, well for about 2 weeks all servers will be doing everything. Smaller servers will fail. After a certain period of time drop off will happen (because older players won’t need to unlock those traits again anymore) and people (especially in low pop servers) will be stuck traitless.

In fairness to him, people do the arah event all the time and everyone can guest any time, so it shouldn’t be hard to get these traits. It’s not like LS events where if you don’t get there the first week and the zerg is gone, you won’t be able to do the events.

In UW quite often if you want to have something done, you’ll have to do it yourself. Quite often now I end up doing Melandru with 2 other people. Shatterer and Jormag sometimes now fails. And I don’t think that guesting should be a way to correct the problem.

I get what you are saying, but that is the drawback of low pop servers. Guesting is easy and will get you what you want if your server fails. You should just be thankful there is a solution.

My problem is that the server is not even marked as low pop (we’re the last at WvW, our events fail, but we’re apparently very high, even though we’re doing worse than the only medium server in Europe). The funny thing is that the problem wasn’t as bad until free transfers opened. Their mistake was opening the last bronze tiers and silver tiers for free transfers. Of course people did not want to stay in 27th place! They jumped right into 13th by switching their server to Gandara!
