Unlocking the new Grandmaster traits in pve
I think they should have integrated the traits not with champions but with places of power. You would still have to clear out whatever was there (champion/vet/ect), but didn’t have to wait around for something to respawn (which was what Anet was trying to abolish when they formulated this game)
Should have found this thread before… I just helped finishing a defense event (Lyssa) in the hope I’d get my trait unlocked… Turns out I should just have let it fail as that would have given me what I wanted… It feels like a bad implementation, if you “reward” people for failing…
Not sure if any of this applies for you, but:
Trait Unlocking:
Line 2—Trait XIII: This trait is now also awarded from successfully completing the defend event at the Temple of Grenth as well as the capture event.
Line 3—Trait XII: This trait is now also awarded from successfully completing the defend event at the Temple of Melandru as well as the capture event.

Sadly, I was at Lyssa… And there it does not work. And maybe they only changed certain professions, because Line 3 is the Karka Queen for me…

I can’t speak for Lyssa, or any others. The notes only reference Grenth and Melandru. Perhaps, they will add other Temples in another Hot fix.
Defend events should not exist. They just result in temples being open all of the time. I would much rather see that they remove these events, and make it so that the temple cannot be defended and the risen just overrun it.
Imagine being a new player who is on his way to kill Zhaitan after completing the whole of his personal story over a month’s time. Are you going to kill the Champion Risen Giant, Champion Eye of Zhaitan, and finally the guardian of the gate that your vision from the Pale Tree foretold? Nope, cause defend events.
Might as well just retexture the entire zone now since Orr has been cleansed. The fact that the Pact now holds permanent control over all locations shows it.
I’m usually really sweet… but this an internet forum and you know how it has to be.

The patch is still less than a week old. People are coming back in droves to see how it changes the game. Give it a month and see how things go. If it’s still not doable, come back and complain.
(Big feeling of Deja Vu…seems I just posted something like this in another thread…)
Don’t forget you can still buy these traits from the trainers in the cities. You really don’t have to do the events, and they’re dirt cheap.

Agreed. Especially now with the Megaservers in place always serving an abundance of players on the map, the Defend events get done more often and hence Temples remain open.
I logged on yesterday in the midst of a map chat argument that erupted between players who have been waiting to do the Temple of Lyssa and players who participated in the Defend event. People accusing each other of being selfish and / or trolly is the result of the devs’ bad decision to make a delay-able world event (which has also drastically decreased in availability) as the prerequisite for unlocking new traits. Now everyone is thrown into a mad scramble in attempt to gain what is more or less a mandatory requirement for their characters. Is this what they really wanted to achieve in revamping the game?
So as OP says, either remove the Defend event or make it so that Defend event also reward the Trait. Not everyone can afford to (or feel like they should) spend the gold and skill points on what is otherwise a free trait.
