I don’t think I’ve found a single back piece yet that can be salvaged which is really annoying because that means you can’t remove any upgrades on it if you get a better one. I wonder if this was intended or an oversight?

Yeah, about that…what gives? I was trying to break down my yellow after getting a temple one, and no dice. Doesn’t make sense.

When I come across something that is soulbound and can’t be salvaged, it goes in the Mystic toilet. Not ideal, but better than throwing it away.

What do you do with ascended rings then?

Don’t know, don’t have any.

If you want to transfer the upgrade from an old backpiece to a new backpiece, you can use a transmutation stone, and just select the upgrade slot from the old backpiece as the only thing to carry over to the new product.

Also, you can’t toss backpieces into the forge, except for specific ascended upgrade recipes.

I only ask because I have 12-14 taking up bank slots and it seems a waste to sell them for next to nothing to NPC merchants. But I guess that’s the only option ANet has left us with.

What happens if it is soulbound, can’t be salvage… AND cannot be thrown in the Mystic toilet?

I present to you the back pieces from fractals.

Yes I know you can transmute it, but holy crap is that an expensive way to move a single upgrade. It’s cheaper to just buy the upgrade at that point.

Yeah… I don’t get it… Seems really arbitrary. More like an oversight more than a conscious and logical design decision.
