There are a few words i can not let go slip by, when i think abaut this topic. And i wished to share them.

What are your opinions on the upcoming patches, panned contents, updates?
Ofc based on current changes, and way things are right now, or how they are seeming to progress.

If you ask me my first impressions ware totally mixed.
I could point out many extremely positive things abaut the game, but they are alway a bit shadowed by negative things.
It applyes to all games, but here it bothered me a bit more then it should, and the reson was : I played gw1, and it was quite impressive, cosidering gw2 didnt actually take things i liked in gw1 (or atleast not all). It was quite a big lie from dev side -_-

If i woudl have to make a list, what opped in to my mind when i posted my feedback in the first weeks, Guild halls ware one of the main things i missed.
It was a thing that was in gw1 and cosidering gw2 didnt had them, it was a step back instead of improvement. So it kind destroyed my opinion, how devs stand to this game.

At any rate, that is only a minor thing i can live without, but the more and more i played i realized more pressing matters are destroying my gameplay, and fun.
First of all, i didnt found a class i would like, second the class i liked was totally remade to something i dont like anymore -_- .
When something fundamental, like character picking is a problem, the gameplay becomes quite difficult to enjoy.

But i still pressed on. Invited like 9 of my friends, and had a bit more fun.
Trough like 6 quit araund 70, with resons i can understand.
They found combat extremely boring.
Before anyone starts on it, no they did not spam button 1 to “auto attack”.(you cant even progress like that later on) Actually they got bored of making half useless combos, and no real roles in combat. Many of them had a mindset to healing, and tanking, and the hybrid combat roles bored them.
Also a combat sucsess based on when can you dodge, (or die) was a bit off for them.
We went indepth pvp a bit for playing with builds, but became also boring quite fast, to lack of builds that are usefull at all.
In the end they quit, and we still pressed on.

AND at the point, when i was alsost getting content with the game, pops up the news on upcoming changes (i actually asked for on forums some time ago).
The link if anyone didnt read it alredy:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Upcoming_changes_and_features

When i read it, i realized 2 things.
1, They listened to us and implemented Guild halls, (as it was promised anyway). That shoudl have been in alredy. But still good to see they fix something to make gw2 equal in all levels to gw1.
2, They are implementing Personal housing, whitch is actually a seriously important thing, even if it might seems small. It represents the fact, that they not only equalize the game to gw1,, but also started to improve on all topics. Not only in things that are recommanded to this era of gaming.
Besides gameplay mechanic improvements that represent gw2 gameplay and are good idea to begin with, but are underdesigned, do to lack of time they had.

Even trough there are still insanely many and big things i would love to see, (exspecially more classes, and weapons) i have hope atleast now, that Gw2 Is bothering abaut its players, but devs lack time in some insane way.
With expansions i dare to say gw2 can become one of the best games of this are of mmo-s.

If i could suggest something, to fix this i would suggest to take less time on easter event and work on the core game instead.
I wish for a good work for all devs. And a Merry Christmas to all of you.
(and i hope you exuse my terrible english)

“These changes have been mentioned by ANet, but without any hint of a release date or any specific details. "

Which, to me, translates as “don’t hold your breath”. It may come in the jan/feb update, but honestly I don’t expect it that soon.

As long as they can keep the majority of players happy with better gear to work for, they can take all the time they need with new features. It gave them some much needed breathing room.

Grinding the same dungeons over and over doesn’t do it for most players. Running after the gear carrot is boring. If ANET can’t come up with better gameplay than that then this game is toast.

It’s safe to say, from forum feedback and headlines on third-party sites, that the addition of a gear grind was the biggest misstep made by Anet so far in evolving the Guild Wars franchise. It didn’t give them any breathing room. What it gave them was their largest negative PR event in the short history of GW2.

That’s the bigger problem for me. Besides my class being mediocre at best now (engineer) because of bugs and a laundry list of much needed fixes.

They promised us prelaunch that this game was supposed to be all about meta events. Then they not only don’t come out with new metas they also nerf the rewards from the ones they have. There’s no reason to do any of the dragons anymore folks just let them take over tyria. seriously.

You cannot have horizontal progression when there are no rewards that can be obtained to use for crafting what you need.

I hope they do make some major fixes because they’re going to need them. My server is mostly a ghost town until one of the larger guilds decide they need something from Orr.

Not quite sure of how you came to this conclusion. With the servers between high and full at peak hour, we might be playing a different game.
Struggling to understand how I cleared several DEs chains this afternoon and then went on to clear two paths of CoE…I must have really imagined all these players, and the loot I sold …it must have be imaginary too ! So depraved of playerbase that I’m making them up myself…

Not trying to be a fanboy but before you spout utter nonsense, maybe make sure no one is reading it?

Because the game is working differently than a typical gear treadmill MMO, it is going to behave differently. Its pace will be different.

ANet aren’t fools and I’m pretty sure that they know that the majority of its early players are at lvl80, in full exotics and that some already have alts at the same level.
Hence in order to keep the interest of these players and to keep their trade, something is going to have to be done. Even fractals is becoming old news now.

It’s time for some more juicy content, and they know it. So far within three months, we’ve had the halloween event, the lost shore event and the wintersday event.

If they keep up with this trend of releasing semi-filling regular content, we are good to keep playing. Plus, it won’t be forever until they feel ready enough to tell us about an expansion…whenever that may be.

Lol, you don’t actually believe that High / Full server bs do you? Do you even play the game? Almost Every guild has lost 90 percent or more of their players. The only guilds doing well have to recruit like madmen. Every zone is empty except Lion’s Arch.

A blind man can see that most of the playerbase has left GW2.

There still are a lot of people playing this game. They sold a ton of boxes. But the vast majority of players have moved on.

I thought the very point of my post was that I play the game. I even literally said I just cleared a dungeon and some DEs in Orr.

I think the reason you feel the game feels empty is because since most people are lvl80 already and pretty much fully geared, most players will be found in LA looking for groups or in high level zones carrying out their business.

It sadly is a fact of life for MMOs that once your playerbase levels up, the newbie zones are going to feel deserted. What this means in practice is that the first main wave of players are done leveling, and what they need is need blood.

Like I said every MMO has a pace, right now it’s that time of its life where things are going to feel a bit quiet in the newbie zones. New blood will come through, as it always does.

You’re not going to get the same rush as it was on its release date..until its expansion. An expansion serves two goals : to bring old players back, and to encourage new players to join in.

About the “high/full bs”, yes I do believe it. You do know there is WvW and sPvP. Not all players are doing the same thing in the same zone at the same time.
And guilds dying is pretty much standard. Rare are the guilds who survive from day 1 til the day the game closes its servers.

I’m currently leveling my 3rd alt, sure it is quieter around here than it was that when I leveled my main, but I still see people. If anything exploration helps a fair bit.

The point of events like Halloween, Lost Shores and Wintersday is to keep bringing people in so we are not alone in here
They are doing what they can, and they’re not doing a shabby job of it.

Heheh. Just look at all the empty low tier servers who can’t even get a Lion’s Arch overflow to pop. When a server doesn’t have enough players to get Lion’s Arch to overflow then yet they are listed as High / Full then that should be pretty good sign that the pop claims are bs.

The facts of life in every mmo are that after a couple of months over 70 percent of the playerbase moves on. That isn’t any different in GW2. From the looks of things it is probably closer to 80 percent attrition.

Again, the game still has a lot of players. But the majority of the playerbase left the game and they haven’t returned, even with the holdiay events (which are good) and other incentives. Those are just the facts.

Edit: A server being High / Full just indicates how many player accounts are tied to that server. NOT how many people are playing the game. A server could be listed as Full and still not have anyone actually on line.

“The majority of the playerbase left.”

I can only sadly agree, there is no room quarreling abaut this. My proof is : 90% of my guild wanished in a week, and i was forced to switch guilds for almost 1.5 month, because guilds kept becoming inactive.
Another proof is : Even if you dont have to find a specific class, it takes ages to find a dungeon party. (even hours).

The lfg tool will be a nice. Less spam on chat, and faster teaming.

" from forum feedback and headlines on third-party sites, that the addition of a gear grind was the biggest misstep made by Anet so far in evolving the Guild Wars franchis

I dont fully agree. Gw1 had gear and money grind but it was still fun.
If we are talknig abaut gearfarm for quality and not for looks i agree. Gear needs to be easy to obtain, and less farmy.
Really good looking gear should be made hard to obtain, but even still not so farmy as it is now. 1-2 runs a gearpiece.

If you ask me the old Ecto farm to craft items was quite a lot more fun, then farming tokens to simply buy them.

“It’s time for some more juicy content, and they know it. So far within three months, we’ve had the halloween event, the lost shore event and the wintersday event.”

Thats actualyl the problem, 1 time events are nice. Karka invasion and stuff, but not Halloween and Christmas, they just take away there work force for events i would gladly trade for more casual content instead.

The only thing i would like to add right now, that i hope there will be other things that add to the Personal housing and Guild halls to.
For example you can buy, craft unlock fornitures, states, paintings. And can place them the way you want (like in MANY other D category mmo-s alredy could at start-_-)
I also would love to see GvG -s and a bit more costum PvP maps for Guild halls….like mini fortresses, that can be upgraded partially.
Unlockable merchants-repairs,crafting stations decorations, gardens with unique pets, or holding pens for the rare pets for guild members.
A viual apperance of the guild tab upgrades (political, warfare ect…)
And many other quite impressive ideas…..dont make another failure with underdeveloping a plain boring blank thing.

Ok, so the world is supposed to end today, but lets not start the gw2 doomsday talk already. We’ll simply have to wait and see what comes up in january/february. Im thinking once wintersday is over we’ll start seeing tidbits of info coming up of whats to expect in january and then later whats coming up in february.

Another note: Whats to be expected, that can mean anytime between now and infinity. I mean, sure they said they want to give us personal housing and guild halls, but that might be something coming two years down the line for all we know.

Anyway, Im glad they made wintersday what it is, they did a wonderful job. Now Im looking forward to what next year will bring.

To add I don’t know how anyone else feels about this but a desert is a really nice bright environment away from all the trees/jungle/water heh. Makes me feel like a real traveller in game. Hopefully the desert will be huge! Also Ring of Fire would be an excellent addition! In the first game it was a little drab and boring but it was exciting to get there.

The game is far from dead and guilds are as strong as ever, you might just be on one of the RP-heavy servers. Look to switch to a higher population server. The gear progression gives you something else to do, and is not even close to mandatory. If anyone thinks that +3 of a stat on ascended here and there makes a huge difference, I assure you it does not. I have ascended gear and get curb-stomped all the time by better players who probably have way worse gear. Looking forward to a lot of the updates, and hopefully better drops.
