Update Endless Gathering Tools
I approve this idea! +1
I think I read this suggestion in the existing thread.
I did comment on the other thread but the overall topic is different. Which I think deserves its own thread because updating the endless gathering tools to the wardrobe system will fix all the problems people have concerning endless gathering tools. They are still stuck in the old system so an update is in order for them.
Updating the gathering tools because of the wardrobe isnt going to work at all because the wardrobe is a mere SKIN, NOT the functionality. /thread
Correct me if I am wrong, but the only functionalities are from the Watchwork pick with its chance for sprockets, and from the Frostbitten tools with the chance for tiny snowflakes. I get the feeling the pick was a trial at monetizing the functionality and the others at just giving it away.
A while back I suggested introducing ways to add functionality, possibly through crafting, but it didn’t get much traction.
other toons should get the skin, but not functionality. Want it? shuffle your tool around or buy more. You can never buy too much.
Well concerning the sprocket thing if that is one of the things keeping them from moving the endless gathering tools over to the wardrobe system then they could always just remove it off the tool. Then add random sprocket nodes in the areas where scarlet attacked like Kessex Hills, Lornar’s Pass or even Lion’s Arch like how you can still find toxic spores in Kessex. No other endless gathering tool has anything like that attached to it so it’d be an easy transition from there.
I don’t think those that purchased the Watchwork Pick would be pleased with that. I know I would rather not have to confine my mining to one small area.
The main reason why people get the tools is so that they don’t have to worry about running out when gathering. I think having wardrobe endless gathering tools would be worth it. Or another way they could go with the sprocket thing is that it could be considered like an account trait. So, if endless gathering tools were in the wardrobe system and you bought the watchwork mining pick you got the skin + unlocked the ability to have a chance of getting sprockets when you mine for your account instead of it being apart of the actual tool.

Mastery Time!
GATHERING EXPERTISE:
(1) Alpha – 1% increased chance for rare yields from harvesting nodes.
(2) Beta – Mining nodes have a chance to generate Watchwork Sprockets. Increases rare yields to 2%.
(3) Gamma – Harvesting nodes have a chance to generate Pigments. Increases rare yields to 3%.
(4) Wakka-wakka – Harvesting nodes have a 5% chance to generate a random Container based on area. Increases rare yields to 4%.

That is a great idea make it apart of a gathering mastery even better. That way people who want that ability can earn it and then the endless gathering tool skins can be upgraded to the wardrobe system. Bravo Major Domo. (Love the name btw lol)
No , if you want the QoL invest in
- more Perma tools, and/or
- Shared account slots, or get a
- Permanent bank contract…
The skins… yes you might have all the skins, but then use them. I do not care for the skins on character that much… Functionality for my main farmers is the point, somy main classes have perma tools all 10 of them and those include my 3 or 4 farmers.
I payed for a tool providing me with sprockets, I own 3 , maybe 4 even. I do not want to farm a mastery track for something I payed for.
Been There, Done That & Will do it again…except maybe world completion.

No.
Having a gathering mastery that involves sprocket drops and having a better chance of getting extra of what you’re gathering, and chances of getting more rare items would be amazing. Okay, I get you bought more of the watchwork mining picks because of the chance of getting sprockets when you mine but to be honest it’s not like you paid extra for it you still have an endless gathering tool which is what you mainly paid for. Adding endless gathering tools to the wardrobe and adding a central tryia mastery involving gathering would be a quality of life move. It will make the game even better than it is now.
No, personally, I paid for one infinite gathering tool WITH the chance of sprockets. I saved up and bought gems to buy that item specifically for what it was , and what it did
I don’t have an issue with tool skins being added to the wardrobe. I do have an issue with functionality I paid specifically for, being removed, or having to be re-earned through a mastery system.
I think a better way would be to have something similar to the swap-able weapon slots that most professions have but for gathering tools. One set of slots would be character-based (we have that now) and another set would be account-based. People could select which set of gathering tool slots each character is using. You could equip infinite or regular gathering tools in both sets of slots.
This is another good idea too Bollock that would go well with this other idea I had. So, if they added those shareable account bound gathering tool slots, what they could do is for endless gathering tools they could make them like a shell the ones that go in the slot. If you’re someone that bought the watchwork mining pick to get the chance to get sprockets when you mine would be attached to the endless mining tool shell. On top of that with the wardrobe when you choose a skin it would paint the endless gathering tool shell with that look. That way people who bought the special tool get their special ability plus get to change the look to whatever they want at the time.

I’d say the pick and the mastery %’s should be additive.
That way ANet doesn’t lose a money source, but all players can get access to sprockets or tiny snowflakes or whatever without having to pay for it or wait for Wintersday to roll around.
And players who have Endless Gathering Tools don’t lose what they paid for.
