Hey there.

This subject has probably been discussed elsewhere but I couldn’t find the thread.

Last time I talked about capes IG someone told me that capes were not present in-game due to clipping issues with the charr characters.

So I wanted to know if this was true or if there was another reason to that.

Capes (and more specifically guild capes) were a very important aspect of the first game so I’m really exited to see them arrive in the second!

If the issue is clipping I was wondering if you could figure out another way around that.
After all in the lore charr and other non-human races or not the type to wear capes. But maybe some other “guild” related ornament? (charr ornaments, sylvari flower emblem, asura hovering poster sign, norn tatoo/hodd….?)
If you make it cultural then you can ensure each of those cultural back items is designed specifically for each race.

In any case I hope at least to get some info about his plz : )

There has been no updated info on whether capes will ever be added to the game. There is a feature patch in the spring will hopefully address some issues (eg clipping), but we have no idea what will be in that.

They were the only back item in GW1, but because of the varied new number of back item design in GW2s, I suspect capes being added are extremely low on the priority list for the team.

In short, they may be added. Or not. We don’t know

Capes never existed. Biased human perspective.

I really would love for them to add capes. My two dreams for my Guardian are a) a long flowing white cape and b) a heavy amor hood. The hooded paladin concept is so appealing for me.
Anyway I also don’t really see any issues with capes other than clipping ones. Saying a cape is a human item is the same as saying armor shouldn’t be worn by Charr because they are big fluffy cats. Heck if they can wield an axe and wear plate then they can manage a bit of cloth on their back.

Capes did exist actually. They were a part of the guardian character creation, but were removed for some reason.

My only problem with the hooded concept is that it would leave you bald just like hoods and hats now. Capes on their own would be nice though. Maybe variations, not just long ones. Some that are off one shoulder. Or half capes.

I agree, if the only thing that is holding this back is the fact that they clip with Charr, then do what I expect to be an acceptable compromise. Give the Charr something else. A side shall, a tunic, a scarf, a half cloak…something. Give all of the models who can wear a cape the option to do so.

The only problem I have with making it completely racial outside of Charr is because I of my personal stake in this. For my set up, the characters that I mostly want a cape for aren’t human.

So much armor in this game (most games too) have clipping issues that with the right toggles or optional other pieces, I don’t think the community as a whole would be against just adding the cape option.
