The current UI with all that painterly stuff is so outdated, it screams 2007 and to be honest, this game would be 100% better if you made it more modern…

I have grown fond of the UI, but just for the purpose of the “new feeling” i would gladly welcome some UI changes.

Hopefully we will see it later on, maybe. But for now it works well, and it’s design is perfect with the game, but like i said, for the new and fresh feeling i wouldn’t mind a new UI at all.

Let me ask you how is a more modern look to the UI? metallic boarders and Bunnies on the map and electric currents flowing around when you open a new window? Or just a new colour scheme? A little suggestion would be nice.

As a hobby designer I do think that the Painterly stuff works well with GW2 as most of the artwork in the game has a Painterly touch. This making the UI pretty nice with the soft way it has now. The colours scheme is alittle too brown and booring though but other than that I do like the UI and I realy love that it is simple and not too much clutter.

I remember i used to sometimes see a drastic fps drop when I opened the inventory or BL panels. I always wondered if the torn edges or massive xp bar that we can’t remove maybe contributes to the low performance in some way.

There was a mod that removed all the junk from the UI including the top right naggy ones. It was glorious having a screen full of GW2 without the shopping list simulator, I was just too worried I’d get banned for using it

I think you mean the Combat Mod, Paul?
It also includes what you do speak of and you can disable the combat mode itself.

I also kinda like it, and there’s no real way anet can detect it (ATM!), also there’s no real reason why you should get banned for using it.

I enjoy the minimalist UI. Far better than having 5 rows of skills and other crap cluttering the window. The issues with FPS drops on certain interfaces being opened does need to be addressed, however.

I’m quite fond of this UI. Anet used a painterly feel, not just for the UI but the whole game. It’s a smart move.

In games that use realistic stuff, there’s always going to be a more realistic level of graphics a couple of years in the future. But painterly means you won’t be outdated, It’s only outdated to people who don’t like the style, which apparently is the OP.

I’ve heard very very few complaints about the painterly style of the UI over the years, though I have heard other complaints about it.

Or Anet could remove the dirt border around the edge of the screen. I get that they’re going for a storybook effect, but I can’t stand the dirt border. I would also like to see fully opaque windows instead of semi-transparent windows too.

The only thing I’d like to see happen with the UI is having that awful jagged black border around the screen removed. It just makes things look so unclean.

I also love the way the UI looks. It could do with more customisation – moving aspects around, like we could in GW1, but the painterly theme generally I like a lot.

I quite like the painterly look.

It fits the fantasy feel of the game yet is pretty neutral to all the classes and races.

Something “modern” would be pretty horrid looking, IMO, since it’d clash with the atmosphere of the game. (Modern design is typically clean lines and flat colors) It’s medieval/steampunk/magitech fantasy. Steampunk would favor charr/engineers too much, and magitech might lean too much to asura, but keeping through along those lines, racial HUD skins might actually be kind of cool. Not forced to your character choice, but as a toggle-able option.

That said, some actual layout customization would be a godsend. Being able to move the skillbar, separate chat channels into separate simultaneous windows, a small quickbar for commonly used inventory items like food, toys and tonics, and things like that would be very nice to have.

…. I am sorry I must have missunderstod you, I thought we talked about the look of the UI not the Features of it. Well yes I would like if the UI would be costumizable though I am so used to it now that moving around stuff would confuse me now

And a few themes would have been cool too, I would rather that they put their “energy” elsewhere though.

I also agree with the call to get rid of the translucent window borders. After 3 years I am still clicking the wrong X to close a window, and fumbling to find the edge to drag or resize it.

Stupid design from day one. Clean it up.

I like that painted calligraphy theme. What REALLY needs to be fixed is the crafting UI and it’s enormous amount of long worded recipes…

I’ve seen relatively new games that screams 2007. Pretty sure one was even released after GW2. GW2 doesn’t look dated to me though.

I would just settle for the recipes staying in a fixed order. I don’t even care what order at this point as long as the list stops randomly rearranging itself from time to time.

I would settle for an expandable window (kind of like the chat and invo expanadables.) at least so we can see the text and item amounts more clearly.

Apart from the black border around the screen, I think the UI looks fine. I did a quick mock-up of what it might look like without the border. Feels less claustrophobic.

Ha. I never even notice the border, except when it turns red or some other color telling me I’ve been …‘conditioned’. Lol.

I like the look, for the most part. Features are something different, altogether, though. I’m not sure what I would want changed, but options are always good.

Still, if the choice is more content sooner vs. changed UI, I’ll go with content everytime.

I’d like the UI to auto-hide stuff that I don’t need atm. I don’t need to know that my hp are full while being out of combat. I also don’t need an exp-bar once I hit lvl 80.

There are so many UI-elements that could auto-hide until something changes. Less clutter = better game-experience.

Also I’d like the remaining UI to be smaller. I already set it to small, but that’s not small enough.

If they change the UI in any way I would just have one piece of advice for them. LISTEN to whatever your user beta testers tell you.

A few years back Second Life decided to revamp their interface. The user beta testers hated it … and the company went forward with it anyway.

So what was the result? The rest of the users hated it to when it was released. It was sort of like Windows 8 in needing to release a new version to make it barely tolerable again. The new version still had the stink of the previous one though.

A representative sample is sometimes just that. Representative.
