Gaile, could you guys drop the quantity? Like even with 1000 drinks itll take some people a really long time to get because of their schedules. 2,500 might be reasonable too. But 10000?? Currently that would cost 840 gold approximately and that is for the casual player?? I’ve never had more than 400 gold at one time let alone blow it all on booze.. This is a little ridiculous. Increase the drop rate or lower the requirements please.

I also checked. I cannot get the Wintersday Meta without 10k drinks and 2,500 candy canes. This is unacceptable!! You are making it literally impossible for me to get this Meta in the time period it is active. I don’t have gold to buy what I need. I have to earn it. So what do you expect me to do? I’m literally incapable of finishing a Wintersday Meta for the first time ever.

Now, the real question is: Why doesn’t the other Christmas Tonics count towards this achievement?
Gift Dolyak Tonic, Princess Doll Tonic, Plush Griffon Tonic, Toy Golem Tonic, Toy Ventari Tonic, and Toy Soldier Tonic?

There’s plenty of supply of them. I think people would be happier if they had a chance to get on those (considering the supply) if it was added to the achievement.

Once you do all the other non-unlimited achieves, the only ones left for the 18th slot are either the drink or candy cane achievement.

I’m at 16/18 and the only ones left on my list that aren’t the infinite ones are drink, candy, and 500 musical notes.

Edit: I just noticed I have 17 but it only lists 16. The Grawnk one was auto filled as I had the tree already. I’m not sure if it’s not supposed to count or if this is a glitch but it isn’t right now.

Ya, like I said. I’m not sure if the Grawnk one is glitched but I have 16/18 with only the two food and the 500 bells ones left. It’s conceivable that others will also have this as well. It could be another but the Grawnk one auto filled for me since I obviously can’t do it twice so it’s the one I suspect the most.

I personally feel that the entire event and rewards are just designed to be a time sink, karma sink and gold sink… not as a truly fun year end event for players…

Least they could do is offer better rewards for snowflakes, karma and gold.

They even took away the recipe to make gifts and took all the old rewards from the old wintersday gifts and slapped a high karma cost to them.

They are selling gathering tools that provide snowflakes but there is not a proper snowflake sink… Meanwhile the bltc already has a bajillion snowflakes just sitting there…

There are vendors in that corner of DR but you can’t buy things off them because they require a completely different currency.

They could at least put a snowflakes, karma and gold value to these vendors… Do something nice for players by putting in the mist weapon vendor from wvw and a dungeon vendor too, and do the same snowflake, karma and gold thing for items…

There are tons of rewards the devs could offer as a one time yearly thing…

Very sad…

Well, I mean, they are meant to be that. I wouldn’t doubt they have some plans for karma in the future and this whole “festival” was meant to hoover up as much of it as possible to ensure people don’t invalidate the cost of the planned content.

This is pretty much the future of GW2. The days of content like the early festivals where rewards were reasonable to get and updates that were there to simple be fun and a reason to log on and play and not be thinly veiled material/currency vacuums is over.

Imagine needing vial of liquid of flame for Mad Memories or 250 Charged Lodestones for the Holographic Shattered Dragon wings…

I understand. My perspective is that seasonal events should be fun. I don’t mind “sinks” at all, but holiday events should be more geared toward “fun” and “giving” as opposed to “sinking” and “taking”…

It’s a balance, but Anet is failing that balance pretty horribly. This event doesn’t say “thanks for such a great year loyal players and customers”… It’s screams… “Gimme gimme gimme” instead… Transparent.

The only reason why anet has extended the time constraint on the items and not lowered the amount of items required is because it encourages more people to buy more game currency with real life cash.

Think about it.

This is no different than one of those facebook games that wants you to complete an impossible task in a week for a cool reward… when the week is up…. none of your progress matters and in comes a new item under the same constraint.

If you don’t already have the in game cash to spend (~800g) The only way to complete the task is to buy currency, unless you farm nonstop for two weeks.

Extending the time limit will do nothing but increase the total cost it will take for players to complete the task, as the supply begins to dwindle after the event.

Its a scam.

The Winter’s Presence is a horrible Collection thanks to the 10,000 Festive Imbiber portion. Even with the extension there is no way to “earn” the drinks throughout the year, and the high price will only go up.

This is the worst holiday event ever! Games are supposed to be fun, and you would think Anet would want a holiday event centered around good will and joy. Winter’s Presence bring neither to us players.
Check out Wildstar and Star Trek on line for GREAT Christmas events and rewards.

They should have made more achievements than required for the meta. Less stress, and more fun. That makes happy customers. And you don’t have to make the achievements super easy. You can just make them possible to get during the meta..

It should have been ~1000 drinks and 10-20 completions of each activity.

As it stands, you basically do the activities 3 times each and then get the monolith drinking one done with whatever activity nets you the most gold the fastest since earning the drinks directly through casual play is a glacial pace endeavor if you don’t enjoy grinding the hell out of the jumping puzzle.

It’s like they literally couldn’t help themselves and just had to sneak in one requirement that would guarantee them RMT income.

I wasn’t serious, I don’t mind the effort needed behind legendaries.

Just like I don’t mind the effort needed for the shoulders skin.

People are moaning and complaining left, right and center about what’s required to get the shoulders.

When they fail to see that Anet have actually provided a solid way to get their gold up for the next unreachable shoulder skin which they’ll then moan about because it’ll be gated behind RNG like batwing brew and so forth.

Guaranteed its the same people who complain about RNG gates who are complaining about paywalls who feel the whole game should be catered towards them and have everything handed to them on a plate.

Personally, i appreciate the cost of the shoulders and hell, i’m gonna appreciate them alot more with how much they cost.

I still think anet should be looking into more important issues cough wvw cough scribing*cough* than addressing the issues the people in here are moaning about.

Gold sink is gold sink, as I said look at the rest of the game and tell me what is not a gold sink?

Whats gold sink to you is also gold in anothers pocket it gives people who actually need gold for gear to be actually playing some content a decent way to do it.

Farm the JP for an hour solid just to see the amount of money you can make selling the gifts.

Can we get a open all option for when we have stacks of 250 wintersday gift boxes to deal with? I farm like 750 or so per session with the JP and sitting there for 15 mins opening them is a chore, no one should have to do that when we need well over 10,000 boxes for the drinks alone.

You can use mouse keys to set a key to double click. I just set my number pad + to double click and can blast through a stack of items in a few seconds.

I find it easier than using any kind of mouse wheel roll setup and can turn it on and off on the fly without having to ever tab out of the game.

I think one of the fundamental issues I have with the difficulty to get this item is the fact that Wintersday has been entirely centred around it. Once a curious player has opened that collection, every bit of Wintersday you do rewards you with something that is a part of or reminder of that particular collection. Other parts of the collection are fairly challenging in themselves to people who came on to play for fun and not to spam buttons and then insult others who don’t have the time at this time of year to only be on Guild Wars.

Winter’s Presence is in your face all the time. It doesn’t feel like just a side piece that someone can go for if they have the willpower. I have never felt the need to complain about the attainability of an item before, but at Wintersday it feels Grawnchy. Even with the karma farming parts, staying up for hours last night and only getting about 300 gifts, a measly few percent of the insane achievement is simply mean.

I don’t see any merit in being able to say “look at how much I was willing to torture myself with repetitive tasks without a break to get some snow falling on my head”. At least the rest of the parts of the collection you can say to yourself “I collected all these things / I managed that jumping puzzle / I succeeded at something”. I don’t care what people have to say with regard to “well you don’t deserve it then” or “don’t be a cry-baby”. I think the sheer weight of what’s required is against the spirit of Wintersday and it’s, frankly, an abysmal and dreary way to encourage players to spend time in game.

Furthermore, having all the karma boost items only usable by level 80 characters is a big kick in the face to anyone getting the game at this time of year.

Here’s my take on this.

Years previous completing the Festival Daily counted towards completing the Meta. So persons that hated or could not do a event, such as JP, PVP or whatever could complete the Meta.

I presently sit at 16 of 18 for the meta once I complete Frozen claw I will be at 17, ( I completed Grawnk last year so it isn’t counting ) which will leave Imbiber and Confectioner. And as some of the other casual players have pointed out chances are I will not be able to finish this meta. No if all the wintersday tonic were included, including useing the endless ones, then Outlandish achievement would actually be completeable by casual players and not just the grindiest of players.

Now having all to do all the events for the Shoulder skin, doesn’t bother me as much. But still I rather dislike the whole mindset of forcing things to the achievement hound. Sure the achievement hound has the Pokemon mentality of gotta get them all. But in reality the average player does not.

Anet how about giving alternatives, so say to get something someone has to do, 15 out of 20 countable items along with returning the Dailies to counting towards. This WintersDay has 18 out of 19 since Grawnk does not count for previous achievers, And the repeatables do not count.

Forcing someone to do things they can’t or do not like to do, is not fun.

Sure the vocal minority are the ones that say things need to be harder, more group content.
The sad reality is a large portion of the player base are the silent ones, who just stop playing.

Now I’m not saying make things Oh you showed up you get the reward easy. I’m saying make things more inclusive, of all the player base.
Your casual player, your JP haters, your PVP haters, your Die Hard achievment hound, Your pretty Pretty Princesses skin mongers, Your tone deaf color blind person (and yes there is at least 1, I work with a GW2 player that fits that category)

Bring Back the fun, not the grind, Make the gold/ material sinks inteligent and fun, and not something that punishes the casual players.

Peace out and merry Winterdays.

We’ve noticed that you’ve had a few questions about Wintersday, and specifically about the Wintersday Presence Collection. We’d like to share the following info with you:

  • Wintersday is scheduled to end on January 12, 2016.
  • We will be leaving the Festive Imbiber achievement active throughout the year.
  • We will not be able to change the text that indicates it’s a Wintersday-only achievement, but you will be able to continue to imbide (in moderation, please – think of the dolyak children!) to gain that achievement.

Enjoy the festival and we’ll see you in the game!

Some people (kids especially) would enjoy festival more if

It is time of holidays. As tradition goes, you have to be kind, and polite to the people, doesn’t matter if they are good or not to you.It is time of giving, and presents.

Now,since i do not have means,i am sure Arena Net does. They talking on every corner, how they care about their players, and how their community is the best one.

Since Arena Net,have access,to the Account Database, and they can see personal info of the players,my suggestion is next :

Since you love your players that much(at least you saying that),giving 10 full access to the core game,to the youngest players, randomly chosen would not be a big deal for you.

I am sure, there’s plenty of people, especially youngsters, who do not have money for the game, and yet they are faithful fans.Giving them something in return, would be nice, especially because Christmas and New year is coming.

Hi Gaile, thanks for this info, it’s a huge relief for me and anyone else trying to complete the Winter’s Presence shoulders. However, I do have a few questions that I would like to ask, and hope you have the answers to.

  • Will the candy cane achievement be given similar treatment? It’s not required for the shoulders, but it’s still one that is on a similar progression scale as Festive Imbiber.
  • Will FI and the candy cane achievement progress the Wintersday meta after Jan 12? This is mainly a curiosity thing, am interested to know if the meta achieve will be locked after Jan 12 is over, even though anyone that really wants the meta won’t need it.
  • Will FI and the candy cane achievement’s progress carry to next Wintersday, similar to the Grawnk ones did from last year? Just another curiosity deal.

I will see what I can learn about these questions, as well. Thank you, Kamui.

The real question you should be asking is if the gifts will even drop booze when the next holiday comes around or at the rate they do now.

It’s not going to matter much if they get their tables changed to drop the new widget that we need 40 stacks of for the Wintersday 2016 item and booze gets nocked back to ~1:10.

I have to add that during this is an holiday event, some people need to travel to see family etc so they wont be able to actually play for days (including myself). I really just want the title from this achievement since i am a spirited drinker irl too, but i am not seeing this possible without spending lots of gold. I am currently standing at 2,008, bought a few stacks of 100’s from tp, few friends lending me a hand and doing Tixx / Toycapolypse. (I’m not a big fan of the JP, so i have to skip farming that one.)

Im not saying that i couldnt farm this event for 2 weeks straight with no spending gold anymore, but is that the sole purpose of this event, especially for those who need the achievement for meta or the shoulder skin? Does it make it fun that you need to only farm gifts while playing, since there are lots of other things you could do ingame?

I do not see any amusement in the fact that once you login, you have to farm the JP or the instances for the whole time being online. That really kills the whole playing experience, atleast for me.

The events are really nice and there’s a good mood ingame, but please, for the sake of my (and possibly others) gaming sanity, reduce the amount of drinks needed to complete this achievement.

Jolly holidays for everyone!

Don’t forget that even to farm presents, you have to be able to get into an activity. I’ve had several guildies and other players comment that they can’t get into the choir bell. I haven’t been able to get into the JP because it is constantly full. So I can’t get the presents to farm the items I need for the other things. It’s quite depressing.

The Anet holiday offering is, well, for want of a much better word, mean

It is the most accurate word I can think of, it is so dark hearted to have nothing but Cold Cash Store items and a winter unique that is unobtainable for the vast majority of the player. Then, on noticing that this might be wrong, they say “Oh it’s ok, you can spend the whole year farming it up” without noticing that it will still take manypeople 3, 4, 8 years to farm up 10,000 drinks.

I’ve spent half a million karma and got up to 980 drinks. I’m am kittens out. I’ll be reintroducing myself to Elite this holiday, having just spent 2x£90 on HOT I’m really feeling the mug right now and am hoping I don’t come back in spring.

The skin isn’t for everyone. The event is wonderful, and I really enjoy the Infinirarium.

You know what? I’m tired of this.

Go watch the segment of Guild Chat where they talk about Winter’s Presence. The biggest concern shown was that they hadn’t managed to complete the jumping puzzle at all and were worried that would be the blocker!

This is a neat Wintersday skin that they clearly intended players to get in 29 days with some effort (or at least complete the festival-specific achievements). It is not a “prestige” item. It’s not “premium”. Those labels were added by players as a means of rationalizing the astounding quantity of holiday booze it called for, or for minimizing or outright dismissing the desires of other players to acquire it.

So, ten thousand drinks? That has to be a mistake.

That was pretty depressing to watch.

I jumped the gun and finished the other 9 requirements for Winter’s Presence. I thought the Imbiber achievement would have been okay to handle at least over the year they say. Doing some napkin math, if you are in the JP every second you are in the game and say you play for 3 hours every day without fail. Suppose you succeed at the JP 50% of the time (7 complete runs per round) and you get a drink from presents 90% of the time, then you would need to play for 71.4 hours or 23 days and 20 hours of non-stop JP just to get enough presents to convert to drinks before you need to start relying on the TP. You basically either need to dedicate your life to this JP while Wintersday is going or be prepared to pay a ton of money.

I wish I had done this math prior to making the MF items. That’s 50g I won’t be getting back
