Updates during prime time
Facepalm… You do realise that whatever time the patch comes, it will always be prime time for some people.
Some patches (like todays) NEED to get out A.S.A.P.
The fact that Unidentified dye dropped from 4s+ each to about 1s each is extremely significant.
Most of the prime-time patches have huge bug fixes that the staff works out and fixes during their work day as quickly as possible to push it out.
Huh I thought something was odd about dye drops.
I don’t think it would be unreasonable to give more advanced notice, say a half hour or so, and post a note in the launcher. WoW does this, and really isn’t that the benchmark?
PS. I’m kidding on that last part.
Two minutes is too short of a notification window. I realize some patches are important, but giving 15 minute countdown might take some of the sting out of it.
I don’t really care when the patches occur, and I think ANets way of doing patches is slick, but 3 minutes of warning is pretty weak.
Nothing kills a WvW match faster than a mass kick… Seriously, we just lost the whole map to the other server within 5 mins thanks to this ninja patch. And for what? Because unidentified dye dropped from 4 silver to 3.34 silver
It’s always 5 o’clock somewhere.
These threads are created after every patch.
Yes it’s unfortunate that we got 3 minutes warning –
But it’s the way its been since launch.

Schedule it on a crappy gaming day, like Monday.
We have 2 hours warning.

Today is Monday
All you had to do was relaunch game. ;/ Doesn’t really matter when it happens when you consider how fast and simple it is to update.
The Monday patch is basically a given at this point, I’d think.
Just be glad they are using a system architecture that can deploy with only a few minutes of down-time on the client end rather than the 2-8 hour “patch day” of many older games use. The latter doesn’t work in today’s increasingly global titles.
The time probably has to do with the patch being expected to be ready to green light around EOB Monday, PST from the looks of it. Then a few hours pushing it live on the back-end, do some testing (this is where all MMOs -and software in general- have issues… :9) and then you “flip the switch” and everyone gets told to bugger off in 3 minutes.
This patch must be more than just fix for a drop rate because it’s taking a long time to download. Shouldn’t drop rates be fixed server side, anyway?

Warriors skill bugged hitting for 30k, Thief’s stealth render bugged….We have to wait until the 15th….but Dye’s HOLY CRAP! fixed within a few days in it’s own patch.
