Q:
Upgrading MFed exotic weapons to ascended?
It would be nice if it was possible but on the other hand what we have now isn’t much different from paying for a very expensive skin such as http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Greatsaw_Greatsword_Skin or one of the BL skins or SAB skins.
Not quite. The Greatsaw skin is a Black Lion Chest item whereas these exotics are crafted. Skins are consumables and need base items. Some MF items are already upgradable now, and the new ones being released you can even upgrade until they get infused, but somehow these exotics remain unupgradeable to ascended quality.
The point is that ultimately they are all just piles of gold of varying size.
True, hmm I guess my point is that the quality of these items. Some of these exotics weapons use Gifts that legendaries also use. And we know Legendaries are are ascended items. Ascended weapons don’t even require gifts to craft.
>Like I said, the “value” behind these MF weapons is not their stats but their skins.
Quote from a friend. He might be right. But is it not an acceptable suggestion to at least consider these MF weapons to be upgradeable to ascended in the future?

You can apply any skin to an ascended weapon, so I don’t think it’s necessary. Yeah, you spent a lot on the skin, but that was why you spent a lot: because of the skin.
On the other hand, I wish there was some way to side-grade existing ascended gear to change the stats. It’s a huge investment to make ascended gear and it’s all-too-easy to choose one set of stats today only to learn that it was a bad choice, as we evolve are our playstyles (and the game, I hope, also evolves).
For example, I’d like to combine the Keeper’s Brazier I have (from ascended chest) with an assassin’s inscription, a minor vision crystal, and maybe an Eldritch scroll, to convert it into a Soros Brazier.

I like that idea but that might be requiring too many SP considering the change to SP acquisition in HoT.
Also doesn’t seem like it would scale too well which is a problem for armor. That would be 420 SP for a full set of armor.

Right, maybe not the right formula. OTOH, it would still be less tedious than making an entire new set of armor. The main thing is that I’d like to see a way to change the stats of ascended gear. It’s properly free for legendary weapons, so it should cost something substantial, but maybe not as much as I proposed originally.
