Upon Return
Welcome back. Glad to see you’re enjoying the game again. Expect flack about the gear grind comment, though. You’ve just painted a bright red target on this thread. You heard it here first. lol
Not that this really quite does what you asked, but you can do your PvP Daily/Monthly for your regular old PvE Laurels now, if you so choose.
Ok forget the gear grind comment. I would ask the developers to ask themselves the question, ‘What will make every player want to do endgame pve?’
I’ll admit I’m ignorant to alot of what is in the game. I’ve only leveled one character to 73. I wasn’t around for the laurels. Sorry about the lack on knowledge.
I just couldn’t wait to post some kudos and a few recs.
No worries, mate. A lot of people don’t really understand the nature of the game until they’ve hung around a while, and a lot of people leave before that happens. Whatever the case, glad to have you back.
I highly recommend you find yourself a guild of like-minded players to play with. Makes the game a lot better too.
I love the game too, though I don’t play it as often as I once played GW1. Still, I can’t fall into line with your suggestions:
1) Ok, I can sort of go with this. I would also like to see the return of some type of hero/hench system. Hell, I even suggested using the NPCs from Destiny’s Edge. Earn ‘x’ hero by completing ‘x’ dungeon…a mechanic similar to gaining your heroes in NF.
2) Keep pvp and pve separate. Yes, we should be able to pvp on our pve characters, but I don’t want pvp to be affected by pve and vice versa. What we need is an option to easily swap out pve and pvp stats/builds/armor/weapons. I really miss templates from GW1. It would probably fit this situation – load into pvp, open template folder, select saved pvp armor/weapon set – load, select saved trait set – load. Tada, ready to go. My only complaint would be that we need a dedicated ‘closet’ space on the toon to carry the sets.
3) We don’t need a gear treadmill. We didn’t have one in GW1 and we should not have one in GW2. They need to stay true to their form in that regard, it’s part of what sold a lot of people. Otherwise we’re just going to turn into ‘WoW’ Wars where we’re always grinding for that next BiS item in order to play the next piece of content. No thank you. If I wanted to do that, I’d just go back to building my WoW toons (while gouging my eyes out at the horror of it XD )
2) Tie pvp and wvw back to the pve character some how. I love going in and playing pvp, but it seems disconnected.
WvW is played with your PvE character..

LanfearShadowflame, what is missing in endgame achievements? What makes you want to roll around as a level 80? I never should have said gear grind…
Vayne, I am a member of a good guild. I’m just more of a lone player who wants to have plenty to do at level 80. And as I said, I’m not even there yet, so I can’t complain about what is here to do now. I’m just concerned with the exodus of players, if indeed that has happened. I don’t really even know that.
I just want this game to thrive.

Some people have left, some have signed on…like any MMO. Without a monthly fee, it’s likely the population of this game fluctuates more. You dont’ have to play it all the time to get your money’s worth. So people do the monthly content, go away for a couple of weeks, come back.
My server at least has a health population. And a lot of people in my guild solo. But it helps to have a guild for the content you need help with. That’s just logical. Unless you prefer to pug dungeons and that kind of thing.

I only have my 1 level 80 at this point. Taking my good ol’ sweet time as I play..
I don’t see ‘missing endgame’ at this point.
I have a whole list of achievements to do, a list of goals if you will. I have the last 3 or 4 story steps to complete. I have maps I haven’t even visited, more storylines for other races to view. I have dungeons to explore, crafting to level across my characters….for no other reason than I want to.
Don’t even get me started on armor. I’ve spent hours previewing armor on my characters in pvp. At this point I have at least 3 mixed sets to work towards on my ele, and 2 on my necro. Why? Just because I like how they look. I know of at least 2 legendary items I’d like to eventually get, because I think they look cool.
There are holidays coming up that I can’t wait to see what (if anything) Anet does for them. They skipped Canthan New Year (so sad, but understandable) but what about Dragon festival…will that get the bone too because of the whole Cantha issue? WIntersday in July? Will that transfer to GW2 or will it remain only gw1? Talk like a pirate day? They could do some interesting stuff with that if they chose to.
There will be more living story to experience in a few days, and they’ve mentioned several times that they want to / are working on making updates more frequent, which means they could roll out living story more often. There are so many places the current story could go, so many plot twists they could throw in, so many options. Sorry, writing is a hobby, I get overly excited about things like this. And toss in the fact that I could MISS a chunk of it if I’m not paying attention…definitely drives me back to make sure I get to experience the story.
I could probably continue if you’d REALLY like me to. I haven’t touched on leveling other characters….getting into WvW or PvP….randomly running around to see who I can help…..I really could go on and on, but I’ll stop.
‘Gear grind’ as an optional thing…you want a certain look – I’m ok with this. It’s the gear grind/treadmill like WoW that I just don’t want to see – ‘get x gear level before you can enter x dungeon or x area’
i love this game, but i would literally beat a quaggan baby to death to have solo dungeons. not dungeons with henchmen, mind you – i could do without that awkward GW1 relic – but solo dungeons. something like the living story parts: you drop in, run through the dungeon, it’s challenging but not impossible – and the whole thing takes maybe 30 mins.
something like that would be amazing.
also on topic: while i tried neverwinter – and it’s terrible beyond belief – i did like it’s foundry system where players could create their own dungeons. imagine having a concept like that in a good game like gw2? maybe one day
I want end game zones that are not the vacant maps of orr, there needs to be a reason for people to PvE rather than WvW and Fractals sometimes. People in my guild only really show up for PvE for dragon events. They run dungeons, fractals and WvW the rest of the time. There need to be missions that take you across zones and feel epic but do not require a group of 50 to complete.
