Use of In-game currency/Items illegal?

Hello there!
I am mainly a roleplayer in Guild Wars 2. That means I created a character and live his life throughout the game setting. I am one of those players that does not claim to have limitless, millions of gold in his wallet when playing out the currency of his character.

It has come to my attention that the use of In-game gold or items even for roleplaying purposes is against an article in the Terms Of Use of the game.

Is this true?

Thank you in advance.

I’m not sure what you mean. Do you mean exchanging items or gold via role play might be against the ToS?

Yes that is what I mean. I would like to know if the giving out of in-game currency or items is against the ToS. I do not understand it well.

Long story short: There were so many problems with trade scamming in GW1 that it is NOT a feature in GW2.

You can send items and gold (or whatever) through in-game mail, and that is perfectly fine. I understand that kinda breaks immersion, but that’s what it is.

Well exchanging in game gold and items in game is not against ToS. However doing so is at your own risk. For example if you are roleplaying and tell someone you will give them 50 gold for a sword and you send them that gold and if they don’t send you the sword in exchange then you are out of luck. On the other side if they send you the sword and you don’t send them the 50 gold you are scamming and risk losing your account.

Any trades of coin or items not made via the TP are at the risk of those involved and not supported by Anet.

I understand it is at our own risk, however I just want to know if by sending some silver or a gold to someone or an item is not breaking any norms.

Feel free to send silver or gold to someone. The ability to put coins into mail is a in game feature, so obviously you are allowed to use it. If they didn’t want you doing it then they wouldn’t give you the ability to do it.

Just make sure that you aren’t expecting something from the person in return – if you want to sell or buy an item then use the trading post. But if you are just wanting to send gold to fellow role-players or friends then that is fine.

No at all. Players send gold and items to each other all the time. The only issues you may run into is if you scam someone or someone scams you. One other issue which is a sort of aside is sending large amounts of gold. Sometimes these get flagged for gold selling and require contacting support should something go wrong. It is rare but I have seen it happen.
