Why do you even write a newspost about a beta event that only got about a few thousands invited? That’s like 2% or less of the playerbase. Send out emails to those lucky and don’t tease the rest of us.

The first betas are always limited in number and just because you don’t care to read the blogpost doesn’t mean others don’t.

More info is always more info, if you don’t care just ignore it.
If you are worried that the devs are wasting time writing that then you can be sure that someone is payed just to do things like that.

So you people complain when there is not enough info, and then you go ahead and complain when there is too much info too… poor ANet can’t be easy

Remember it’s Beta Testing, not a free trial!

Well for one thing everyone in the beta is allowed to stream it, and some people who don’t get in will probably want to watch the streams, so for them it’s helpful to know when it is.

What makes you think there are only “a few thousand invited”? People who found a portal in Maguuma Wastes got a guaranteed invite, but anyone subscribed to the newsletter might also have been invited.

Regardless, even if only 100 people participate, ANet should publicize it: each beta event puts us one step closer to pre-purchase and an announced release date, which are among the final public steps before the actual release.

If they didn’t announce it publicly then people invited might not get the word as to the date. Certainly not everyone invited is reliably getting emails from the HoT newsletter. Also you’d get a ton of tinfoilhatters claiming the portals were lies, there is no beta. There’s no better, more central way to make sure everyone invited knows when to show up than to put it on the official site.

Danikat is right as well, those not in the beta will still want to know when they’ll be able to see information from it.

You do not have an automatic right to participate in a beta event just because you feel like you should have that right. It is a gift from ArenaNet to lucky people, that is all. And trust me, it is far better than the effort that most companies make.

Luck of the draw sucks, but its a part of life. If you think that nobody would like to know about the beta just because you didn’t get in, you’re wrong.

Now that I think about it, we haven’t seen too much of ANet on the forums lately… (well not in the parts I frequent) am I the only one that misses Gaile Gray?

It’s not really a gift is it, well not from ANet in anycase. Player are offering their time to test HoT for them. Granted this is more an example of selfish altruism.
