Using an auto-clicker is against the rules?
It was my understanding that as long as you don’t automate anything you are fine.
You can create a macro for sequences but you still need to be present to react to said macro.

As has been mentioned in this thread, the policy is one click or keypress per action. Anything beyond that is a violation of our rules.
ouch! so when I use the thumb button on my mouse, which I have as a double click single keypress, I’m breaking the rules?
You really need to come up with a solution to these … I need to click multiple time scenarios. Please.
I will repute anything I said in a court of law
i cannot understand why anet forces us to click this much. if i want to play a clicking game ill go play cookieclicker. back when there was this dragonbash vendor you could buy koi cakes from him. i bought enough zhaitaffy to buy 500 of those koi cakes. but after each buy it asks me for a confirmation. my god thats frustrating. if anet was a little bit more click friendly this topic would have never needed to be started. where’s that “consume stack” button or the “buy X of said item” button???
I’m simply explaining why I’m right.
People asking for an ‘Open All’ option – what happens if you open 250 chests and you don’t have enough room in your inventory? I believe this will cause more problems in the long run.
Excuse me, but EVEN THE OFFICAL GW2 KEYBOARD/MICE has macro drivers…
So if I have a Keyboard and Mice that has macro options (works the same as binding U & J to sidebuttons), Isn’t a reason for bans.
Afk-macros, skill-combo macros, gathering macros and other harmful things are different.
But not opening 250 bags…
BTW, as far as I know even basic keybinding IS a single macro.
“A man chooses; a slave obeys.” | “Want HardMode? Play Ranger!”
You are allowed macros but you are not allowed macros…..
You’re allowed macros that take one action per use.
To my understanding, that means:
— Automation via macros or scripts is not permitted.
— The script or macro must be manually triggered on each execution.
— It must not trigger more than one action at a time (ie, it can’t make your character move forward and harvest a resource node, unless the two actions occur on separate keypresses). <— correct me if this is wrong.
— Macros and scripts cannot be used to operate multiple accounts or characters (the example given elsewhere was ‘if you press a key to walk forward one step, a single character on a single account may take one step forward’).
Happy to clear it up.
So basicly we can macro a 10click/sec button as long as it just clicks (one action)?
And the minimal we can’t do is to put W and D to one button so we can run in circle?

Good luck proving that. I can pretty much guarantee players are not keeping to this rule today.

Sorry, but that’s a rubbish argument. Just because an office allowed Veyron to be used on casual street it doesnt mean that the speeding is allowed.
As I’m a boomerang right now, I skipped whole “too much clicks to make” problem. From what I read on forums, you are correct, the issue would be non-existant, since opening the bags is… well, harmless. However, I can guess why ANet made such a rule – otherwise there would be a bunch of smart-kitten to run around with the bunch of multiply bags of any sort, and performing macros where it is harmful. Before a bot alarm rings, and someone on admin side react, the damage could already be done by the macro. So they decided to make it forbidden at all, at least in terms of rules as written.

No, you aren’t allowed to macro that way. One single macro execution may trigger one single action (be it by click or key).
In other words, it must perform only one single action, one time and then wait for the player to manually execute the macro again.
Alt + Shift + Num Lock to activate num pad double klick with “+” isn’t ok?
I like this one. Never knew about it. Thanks!
I read the terms and asked what if I time it so the macro presses at the average rate of a person, around 10 clicks a second max.
Lol; I really want to see how you click 10 times a second manually. If I click like a madman, I get like 5 and a half clicks at most in a second.
Make that one doubleclick each second, and I would agree that it wouldn’t be an unfair advantage. It would allow you to save your finger and your mouse, while being a little bit slower than doing it manually.

Get a full inventory and then open up the little chest icon you get for map completion or completing your daily/monthly. You’ll see what happens….

For anyone interested, this is a policy. From a business point of view, policies are instituted to be intentionally vague in certain instances. That way, a company can “interpret” the policy to work in their favor no matter the circumstance. So, if you’ve got a macro that performs more than a single click (since that is what your finger would do), it is against the policy. There is no further meaning beyond that. The devs have been as clear “as they need to be”.
However, since they are a company with millions of customers, they are forced to recognize that some people tiptoe at the boundaries of the policy, while others run right on past the boundaries not caring at all (I’m looking at you, illegal botters). There are essentially three types of players regarding macros:
1) Those that don’t use them at all
2) Those that use them for a passive in-game advantage
3) Those that use them for an active in-game advantage
The difference of 2 and 3 being something like opening a stack of bags versus automated game play (combo attacks, etc). Now, anyone that falls into 2 or 3 are still breaking the policy. The question of whether or not Anet has, is, or will in the future ban based on those breaking the policy in category 2 is really speculation. A lot of people are hoping they won’t, but anyone that is doing that should understand Anet has (due to the stated policy) the right to exact a ban in such a case.
Again, intentional vagueness allows them to interpret and act how they see fit.

As I said earlier, anything that is more than one action per keypress or click is in violation of our rules. That said, there’s not much more value to keeping this thread open, so it is now closed.
