Using the Immob 'Bug' - an Exploit?
How easy is it to actually do this intentionally and is there any way to actually determine that it was intentional rather than coincidental?
Nope. First it’s really hard to predict when someone will jump or be in the air. The cast time of the skill plus the time it takes the projectile to reach the player to immobilize them would make this really hard to pull off. Secondly there’s no way to discern if someone is accidentally immobilizing you in mid air or doing on purpose unless of course they told you they were. Of course it’s unlikely that someone would repeatedly immobilize players in mid air consistently but that isn’t outside the realm of possibility.
My concern is that with upcoming necro change, necro players won’t be able to cast spectral walk in the mid-air.
So in theory if necromancers get immobilized in the mid-air and get the CC effect that doesn’t involve in pushing targets back onto the ground (like stun, fear, daze) those who run with spectral walk and if that’s their only stun break, they won’t be able to use their only stun break.
I wish they allow spectral walk to be casted in the mid-air once again, and add some delay to spectral recall thats enough time to achieve the fall distance to kill a character(around 3 seconds). This idea suits Arenanet’s purpose to prevent spectral walk’s exploitability in open world, while maintaining it’s integrity as a reliable stun break ability.
Coming from a sPvP perspective…
Legacy of the Foefire:
- If an enemy is coming from a side point toward mid point, they could jump off the ledge, vs walking down the stairs, (or drop from it). If they did choose to drop from the ledge, there is another ledge they would have to drop down from to actually reach the mid point (however they may choose the ramp).
Forest of Niflhel:
- If an enemy is walking towards a side point from midpoint and chooses not to take the stairs, they would have to drop off of or even jump off of the mid point platform due to the ‘handrail’ along the main platform and the stairs themselves.
- On the sidepoints, there is a (for east) wooden scaffolding and a stone ledge (west).
Although my examples only extend to two maps, I think most would agree with me that these two maps are more/most popular among the unranked/ranked scene.
Anyone with a good sense of timing could accomplish immobilizing someone mid-air given they are equipped with the right skill. Sometimes it is luck, where the offender would predict the enemy’s fall or jump and use more delayed skills like Net Shot or Pin Down. But with skills like Guardian’s Scepter 3 Chains of Light, catching this mid-air immob is really easy to trigger, as it is a non-projectile, targeted, 1/2s cast. Ranger’s Entangle has been pretty efficient for this too, I’ve found. On smaller ledges, you can spawn the vines just above the ground when the enemy is midair, and constantly immob them while the ‘mid-air trait’ is active.
