Using your real name in character creation
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Bad idea, but yes, you “can”.
May as well also put a big neon sign screaming for nerdowells of the internets to do you serious harm though.
Pseudonyms are a good thing.
I’m thinking you’re right, plasma. It’s better to make an alias instead.
Technically you’re not supposed to use anyone’s name, including yourself because it is in a fantasy setting. You could report many peoples names for violating the terms, any real life reference is considered a bannable offence.
However, contrary to popular belief; the game masters do not ban people for silly reasons.

I am sure many gamers get fed up with people who appoint themselves forum moderators, quoting rules (or what they believe to be rules) at almost every turn………..
But unlike the above post, Plasma’s post does add value imho. People in theory should behave within on line forums as they may do in real life but the sad fact is some do not always do that. Hence the common sense route toward some basic precautions……..
However if you did wish to use your own name, then in all fairness being an adult you “own” that name, its your brand. People online using Twitter for example quite often do just that, ditto Facebook.
It is not usually advisable in an MMO game of course, but I can visualise special good exceptions, for example within WoW a few years ago a well known US University had a special lecture in I think The Barrens, other exceptions might include Pop Stars or Fashion Designers. But I think you would need to prove to Areanet you own the name and brand first.
Oh yes on edit…….a lot of people use Second Life (a special type of MMO) for semi commercial reasons and willingly reveal real life details, so even within MMO environments nothing is absolute in my own view

I don’t know, you can find a lot more information about me online by using my screen name than my real name. You’ve probably even got a better chance of finding my address and phone number using my screen name. (Although I move a lot so it’s highly likely to be an old address.)
And in both cases you’d have to try and work out what’s actually me and what’s other people with the same name/screen name.
