I’ve never been the type of person to earn money easily in an MMO. The decision to therefore save for the T3 asura light cultural chest was one I didn’t make lightly.

Saving what I can, I finally got myself into a position tonight where I had 28g in my inventory and a couple gold worth of exotics on the tradepost. Knowing that I would be able to buy my coat tomorrow if they sold, I ran over to Rata Sum and started previewing the other items to decide what else I would save for and what I would skip. Since I like all the asura armor, I went to go preview some of the other sets as well.

Unfortunately, the preview/purchase issue hit me, so now I’m stuck with some medium gloves that are absolutely useless to my mesmer, and that I cannot transfer to an alt (if I were to make one) because they’re soulbound, not account bound. I wasn’t even being hasty. One right click, one left right exactly in the middle of the preview button.

Is my only choice really to sell them back for 1.5g? They’re a bind on acquire item. It’s really depressing that I can’t just sell them back to the vendor at cost.

Incident: 121020-000528 (for what good that will do)

That stinks.

However, if you want to use the skin, i believe you can actually put them on another asura character. (I know this works with orders armor and karma items so I assume it will still work with cultural armor) Just transmutate them to gloves bought from the tp and then put them in your bank. They will say “soulbound” but are not actually soubound to the character that transmuted them. Any other character can now remove them from the bank and, if it is an adventure class asura, can equip them.

However, since they are culturally bound, they can only be equipped by an asura.

One glitch. About a quarter of the time the item I try to transmute the skin to won’t take a transmutation (I’m not sure but I think this is when the item I bought origianly came from an armor vendor. Anyway, if this happens just buy a second glove from the tp and try again.

I don’t understand? Isn’t the player responsible for their own purchasing errors?

My homeworld is Blackgate.
I am a GW2 player in New Zealand.
Check me out on the GW2 wiki.

Lol, all is not lost, as the 2nd post described you can keep the appearance of the gloves and have a different character of yours wear them. I use that trick to get the starter Thief hood for my 80 thief. T3 cultural armor is Rare anyway, you’d have to transmute it for an Exotic sooner or later, and this is your fault btw.

They should implement an option where you buy something, you need to press Yes or Ok or something, instead of the insta buy,ive also made quite the few mistakes ( nothing expensive though ) with just quickly talking to someone, not paying alot of attention.. and pressing one time too much…

they need to put an option to refund within 30 mins of purchase. If you buy the item and sell it back the next time you buy it, it’s yours to keep. I’m sure a ton of people would buy a piece of gear preview it change dye color ect to see if they like it or not.

This isn’t a fail on the OP’s part. This is actually a known bug. Preview on certain cultural items actually purchases the item instead of previewing them.

It’s stupid, it’s broken, it’s been quite some time and still not fixed and the inability for them to reimburse for the games issues is frustrating to those who are affected.

Sorry that happened to ya OP. You will not get your money back so look into the option others mentioned about transmutation.

“Isn’t the player responsible for their own purchasing errors?”

Isn’t GUI design a major factor in how easily the user makes errors, and aren’t the devs responsible for the GUI design?

Now that I’ve had a chance to sleep on it, I’ve sort of come to terms with it. Throwing a bunch of random rares I had been hoarding into the forge and getting a couple of exotics back helped soothe the burn a little.

I just wish there could be some kind of official response as to why they decided it was worthwhile to launch with a “Sorry buddy, you’re effed” policy when it comes to items. If it’s just some ploy to drive people to buy gems out of panic to replace lost funds, it doesn’t leave a good feeling.

I had never realized that I could bank money as well. I’ll be kitten sure to do that going forward.

This also happened to me. I wanted to preview the exotic heavy armour that you can get with karma from the vendor at the Temple of Grenth. I right-clicked the item and then left-clicked on the Preview button and the item got sold to me. Messages to support said they could not do a refund despite me making clear that I had NOT purchased the item. Interesting to read that this is a known bug.

They should simply implement a 5 minute resale-at-full-value on all goods, to avoid these errors and bugs with ease.

If a GM could track this they could restore your money.

But they won’t do that, i’m sorry for your loss.
