VR Support for GW2
What pray tell could you mean by “VR”?
With the introduction of 1st person action mode a looooong time ago, GW2 already “support” VR. Woodenpotatoes has a video running with the Rift. It would be neat to see native support, but its pretty much as good as it’s gonna get already. Every large texture you look really close at (say terrain on an Asura) is gonna look like crap.
That’s actually the video I was referring to in my op. In the video description he mentions a lengthy setup time for it. Also VR does not implicitly mean 1st person, many VR titles are 3rd person. I agree with you that because it’s not natively supported there’s a limit on what they could do, but it would be cool if they came out with a list of recommended settings changes if you wanted to give it a try. Given the small user base though, I’m sure they have bigger fish to fry.
I did try to get it working on virtual desktop and if I start the game in windowed mode and then open virtual desktop I can get it working but at a fairly large loss in quality. I also tried fullscreen but the game just became a black screen with the mouse cursor on it.
Id doubt they will support it for GW2 it would probably take a big rework to make all parts of the game work with it, maybe GW3 who knows, it depends if all that work they need to put in will be used by a wide playerbase, or a few hundred,
I know a few friends who have tried the VR and it made them feel sick.

I have used the CV1 with the games designed for it (EVE: Valkyrie, Project Cars, The Climb) as well as using virtual desktop with games like FIFA and I’m happy to report no sickness what so ever. It’s insanely fun even if the games coming out right now are mostly quite simple and reflective of its first generation hardware platform. I can’t speak towards the Vive or anyone else’s motion sickness but for me it’s been working great.
You can VR with GW2 to a degree. But unless you have a good enough system that can do SxS 3d the VR aspect is very lacking. The other issue is that GW2 doesnt give perception (leaning, bending over to grab items…ect) so its very much like you are setting at your desk looking at a monitor. You can enable first person and its fun that way, but its not really VR ready.
I’m not sure I’ll ever come to terms with looking like a div wearing the headset.

Virtual Reality. Like with the Occulus Rift.
Most games only end up with “true” VR support if they are build from the ground up with that in mind. I believe GW2 will only ever be able to beat around the bush when it comes to VR. But I don’t blame A-net for that, it is simply how it was designed at the time.
