Venting over 2/7-17
If they knew ahead of time, they probably would have mentioned it. As it stands, it seems like they expected it to go live later today and tried their darnest to get everything in the building working again. Then some stuff ran in the way and now it’s taking longer than expected.
I mean, when my power goes out, it still takes a few minutes to get everything working again, so I can’t imagine what it takes to restore all functionality for something like an MMORPG studio.
TBH, they did update the community on all of their communication fronts and did try to get the patch out the door despite the problems they faced. This is one of those times that I can’t fault them and really neither should anyone else. You still have a game to play and unless you’re living in the game 24/7 my guess is you still have content you’ve not even completed yet. Go work on that for the evening and then come back tomorrow when they will hopefully drop the LS content.

2/7/17 …. we remember the fallen Quaggan at Bowling Green
Even though the delay sucks, I’m not mad. Stuff like this happens.
How many of you have said I will have this or that done at a particular time, yet didn’t for whatever reason.
The thing I wish Anet would do, is simply keep us informed. Granted they did do some, but there is no reason why they couldn’t give us a update once an hour with some kind of prediction as to when. They could always include some kind of caveat this is a guess and no guarantee.
They could easily said. We are having a lot of problems and this may well end up being delayed until tomorrow.
Keeping the masses informed with the best information you have at the time will go a long way with peoples expectations as to what might happen. Thus less frustration.
I agree with what you are saying.
What on Earth do people have going on in their lives when their entire day is consumed waiting for a relatively minor update for a game to go live? To the point where they’re enraged and feeling like they got “strung along”?
I checked here a few times to see if it was up, but I don’t understand how people are buggin’ over this. Like, I saw the update wasn’t live so I did…other stuff. Heck, I even played GW2 for a little bit since…it wasn’t down.
Waiting an extra day for some extra story quests is a little disappointing, but far from the travesty and debacle a lot of people here are making it out to be. Especially because it was literally delayed by nature. They tried to have it up, but it didn’t work out that way. I get the feeling that people would still feign outrage at this even if they were given a play-by-play. There is no official time window for releases, but I feel like they said enough about their situation and efforts from between the average release time and when they finally realised they couldn’t get it out today. I’m also pretty sure the outage affected more than just their ability to push the update for this game out, so I think it’s all pretty understandable.

Whether it not one person considers the whole thing understandable doesn’t mean everyone is going to see it that way a lot of people planned their days around this patch because they have real life commitments and they had to clear things on their plate to make sure they were going to play today I can personally understand the patch not coming out today but I can agree with some of that frustration some players felt like they were being strung along like the patch was going to get released While I cant speak for everyone in the game nor would I try to Safe bet most of us are big boys and girls if Arena net woulda came out and gave us the likely hood that it wasn’t gona release today at a way earlier time frame I woulda been fine instead we got strung along only to find out after hours of waiting it wasn’t going to happen and it still might not happen tomorrow I am all for understanding the uncertainty of whether or not it was going to happen I’m not understanding if its uncertain and were made to believe that it likely will but doesnt

So you are on your way to the store to get ice cream (Rocky Road) as promised for your significant other. Its a ten minute drive to the grocery store under normal conditions so you tell your SO that you will be back in half an hour with his/her favorite treat. Turns out there is an accident causing traffic to back up. You call your SO to let her know that you will be delayed getting back with the treat. The traffic turns out to be worse than you guessed, its going to be longer than you had already told your SO, so you call again to inform him/her of the increased delay. Right after you hang up the phone another car barrels into yours. You are injured and need to be taken to the hospital. Nothing serious but the paramedics want to be sure. Looks like no ice cream for your SO tonight.
When he/she gets the call from the hospital should he/she be angry at you for the delay? Should he/she be angry because you didnt tell him/her that you wouldn’t be getting the ice cream right at the beginning, when first leaving the house?
It’s kinda simple. Say it “release will be tomorrow” and do not let tons of people wait at computer. They might work hard to release it. But, this is not change the truth. People angry on this, because they let people wait for it for hours. And then nothing “tomorrow”..
P.S.: I do not think they will release it today too (Just my getting from what they say).
Sigh…. So storms and no power and they bring it up and servers crash and suck and lag and people would’ve been like “Why didn’t you wait until power was restored…I can’t believe your systems were not ready and you released anyway”
Sound right?

If this is one of this hypothetical situations that is supposed to make people stop and think about what would happen if they were doing something for their spouse and they weren’t back on time for what ever reason and the loved one wasn’t informed let me go ahead and stop you right there this isn’t that situation Arena net wasn’t going out to get us icecream and to be completely honest the reason why people get irritated over these kinds of issues is because someone always tries to white knight and protect a company from the likely hood of anger that will arise …Few people are grilling Arena Net about what happened Most can agree things could have been done better in term of communication
Lol @ people that can predict the weather.
Hindsight is 20/20….
Besides, it seems like common sense there would be indefinite delays…
for there you have been and there you will long to return.

And maybe they kept just having problems after problems that they thought they could fix in a short time when they made the comments prior to the clock running out for it to be released today.
Ever have one of those days where everything seems to go wrong? Maybe that was the case here. Maybe they fixed one bug for another one to pop up. And it kept happening enough to stop progress enough to where it couldn’t be released today.
What did they have to gain by stringing people along? No one has yet to come up with answer on that one.
I think you maddies missed a few things. They did release a statement (maybe not to your liking and time frame) and they do not owe you or I an explanation until they have a for sure answer anyway. I saw Moderators in and out of posts ALL DAY saying we have issues…we are trying… and such and for some reason so many people think ANET boned them. Why get angry over something they could not control?
Just my opinion… start the trolling saw on me

If they kept having problems and problems that could have had given out a few more notifications about any hang ups they don’t have to give specifics but some projections of the outcome would be nice even if it isn’t certain like their statement regarding tomorrow they said what needs to be said their working on it but they cant promise it will be ready tomorrow far as I am aware nothing of that sort was said in regards to today And as far as players being strung along Arena net *may not want to break the hard truth to players because a lot of people likely planned for this update in regards to their real life commitments The truth or a close estimation of a specific out come is more preferable as opposed to being strung along

I was made aware through map chat and was able to put two and two that it wasn’t coming any time soon.
It’s really not that hard.
Storm + Power Outage = stuff doesn’t work. If you haven’t gotten a message from them, then gee, what could possibly be happening?
If you want more updates, just google the weather.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.
In regards to mitch while I’m not personally concerned if your statement is directed at me or others in general I will say how people type in this forum in regards to this delayed patch if that is leading you are somehow wonder what they physically look like in real life and possibly assume something specific without any basis or information to prove the thought that comes off as kind of petty but that’s my personal perspective

I want 1000 gems , because of server wasn`t stable , so it was laggy… i want it now!.. <3
I’m of two minds. Better communication is not a bad idea. However, the only way an announced delay would work is if Anet did not work as hard as possible to hit the deadline. If they said, “Not today,” but managed to release today, there would be complaints from those who went elsewhere. While holding the release until tomorrow or the next day would alleviate that, I’d rather they tried to get it done today. That means a premature no-go announcement would generate animosity, perhaps as much as the way they handled it.
Better communication would be publishing the kitten patch notes instead of waiting for a patch to hit to release them.
And there’s me thinking SKRITT had stolen it! I too waited in, sitting in Divinity’s Reach for ten hours … ten long hours staring at the stonework. The worst part was being contacted by people I know asking me, repeatedly, when the update was due and my informing them that it normally happened by now … and at 23:00 hours (GMT) having still not seen the update thinking I’ll come in the following day (8th) and it will be live. Well, its now 08:00 hours on the 8th and no sign of that update!
So, did the skritt get it? Should I be on the lookout for a skritt with a big grin on its face offering to sell me a big shiny update ‘cheap, no questions, yes?’
Honestly came in here thinking “what could possibly be happening in July that could need venting about?”
First world problems. Let us have our first world problems motherkittener.
…but I want it now! LOL at a the Veruca Salts here!
i am not mad at anet, just keep doing your best.
what i however have a problem with is the city and the state. it snows like every year there. how can you forget it every year and then panic because of some snow. across the pond we hear EVERY YEAR how snow shuts schools and jams traffic and causes chaos in america. how can you be so oxymoron not to learn anything from last year? there’s no bad weather only bad equipment. how about upgrading yours?
cheers from northern europe. it’s -14 C / 7 F over here
