Because it doesn’t start off with a ban from the game. It starts with a 72 hour suspension for the first offense with each succeeding suspension longer and longer until eventually a ban is reached.

I’ve seen numerous posts in the Account Forum from people protesting their suspension for abusive language or profanity. I’ve seen one so far from someone posting for a person who received a ban.

Since people play at different times of the day and may skip days, you could easily miss that someone got a 72 hour suspension. And if they were abusive, were reported and told you that nothing happened to them, remember that people will lie to save face.

The system might require more than one reporting source to take effect.

I’ve reported other people for saying stuff that I thought was abusive, and saw no effect. Then again, I’ve seen people disappear offline within 15 minutes of being reported, right in the middle of a lengthy rant that they apparently had no intention of ending.

Honestly, I have no idea how the report system works or is reviewed. I doubt Anet is going to make any details public, so as to avoid people trying to game the system.

I see people who use slurs and other offensive language all the time in sPvP.

Always report them for verbal abuse. See them on every day still.

People like that exist in this game and its something you will have to deal with. Besides you’re not explaining what the situation was, if he was frustrated enough he was probably venting and had an understandable reason. If I get annoyed with the attitude or competence of a pug I will sometimes use profanity and then leave the group or kick the person who is incompetent—this happens when I post for ‘exp only’ and then some random noob joins and acts like he knows whats up. Other times I might be in this conversation with another person where we rage-whisper each other but I usually don’t resort to bad language if I can help it. Being rude is obviously not a crime in this game and unfortunately there are too many who are (myself included, sometimes). If worst comes to worst you can always block him so that he can’t ‘verbally abuse’ you anymore, or just use invis status so you wont have to deal with rage-whispers at all.

Actually had one guy who got upset that I blocked them and jumped on another account to message further abuse. All because they died to me in sPvP.

Well for one thing, you can block someone in game. You can’t block someone on the forums. There are a boatload of people who wish they could block my posts. lol
