Very little name availability.
Just pick the name you want and give it a last name. You’re allowed spaces and the chances of you and someone else coming up with a random last name combination are pretty low.
Just don’t pick a name that is known. They’ll most likely be taken. :p
I find it easy to get a name – GW2 allows spaces so I just come up with a last name.
My example is, so “Tim” is taken – be “Tim the Tumultuous”, “Tim Timmers”, “Tim of Timsville”.
This lets everyone be “Tim” who wants to be, while giving a way to distinguish them.

Time for “Tim the Enchanter”… awwwwwww!

Just tried about 30 different names with last names included. Not normal ones either like Darth Vader…. But ones I would think would be rare, I guess when only 1 name is allowed in the “world” and u have hundreds of thousands of people playing, then u get a case of millions of names. Guess I have to make one up.
There are still names available. I made a character last night with a one word name (an actual last name) and I was certain they must all be used up by now.
There must also be millions of <first name> <surname> combinations available in a variety of languages.
Finally, the old Fantasy chestnut of <name> the <adjective> must still yield some reasonable character names.
What type of character are you creating? Maybe the contributors to this thread can give you some suggestions you might like!
I found one. I was just mucking about. Love the series Rome. So I used Niobe and put her husbands last name on the end of it. So I ended up with Niobe Vorenus. Pretty happy with that.
Pretty lame but you are far from alone in not getting the names you wanted.
