What is this? It’s supposedly been out since HoT release, but it’s not on the TP, there are no pictures on the wiki, we don’t even know how to obtain the item it’s in!! How do we even know this thing exists?! And why does it exist when WE. CAN’T. GET. IT? Anyone else confused? And while I’m on the subject, doesn’t the Chak Egg Sac seem to rare? I mean, it’s not even on the TP at all most of the time.

Something of the sky. They’ll probably make them available when interest in the maps die down. Or they’ll make them some sort of LS3 collection award. Who knows.
You might be waiting a while to get it. Crystalline Ore was first added to the materials tab in September 2013 (or at least that’s when the Wiki page was created).
It wasn’t actually obtainable until Heart of Thorns was released – just over 2 years later.

You’re correct about when the ore was first known. It was shown in the video that Anet did that showed the ascended crafting process for weapons.
